I’m A Foodie….!

Catnapping on the couch

Good Morning Mom! What's for breakfast???

First thing in the morning…..Mom appears in the living room and finds me sound asleep on the couch.  I usually hop up and give her some head bumps and hugs as I wind around through her legs to say “Morning Mom!!”……then I begin to herd her into the kitchen so she can put fresh water in my water bowl and open up a can of yummy breakfast!  But the excitement is just beginning because after that, she will start making breakfast for her and Dad…..and that means maybe – just maybe – BACON will be involved.

I haven’t always liked it….and I know it’s probably not good for me….but in the last year or so, whenever Mom makes it, I go to the table and sit quietly by her feet and stare up at her until she gives me a teeny tiny piece of bacon to eat.  Sometimes I get another bit after the first but sometimes that’s all I want.  If she ignores me when I’m sitting there behaving myself very quietly staring at her, then I reach up with my paw and give her a poke!  Hard to ignore that………. 🙂  I have another guilty pleasure and it’s something that I am totally PAWSITIVE isn’t good for me to have……butter.  I know what the butter dish sounds like when the top comes off and I’m there in a flash.   If I give Mom “the stare” or “the poke” she’ll put a tiny bit of butter on her finger and man oh man….THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT!!

Must be something about getting to be a cat of a certain age….now that I’m almost twelve, I’m experimenting with all kinds of things…..maybe some stuff that isn’t all that good for me but what the heck…..tiny bits of bacon and an itsy bitsy dab of butter?  I deserve it once in a while……..after all…………

I’m ONE SPOILED CAT……………….    :):)

Happy Labor Day Weekend one and all, and have some bacon and butter on me….

We’re Baaaaack…..

Now that the blog redecorating thing is over with - let's play !!

Hello from Sammyville!  As you can see, we’re “baaaaack” to our original look for my blog.  Thanks to all of you for letting us know what you thought of Mom’s experiments.  HA!  In the end, this theme is “me”…..it speaks of Sam….it’s dreamy, cute, fun, happy – all the things that I am.  It fits my personality just fine thank you.

Onward!

I heard Mom and Dad talking about vacation yesterday.  The “V” word isn’t one of my favorites because it means I have to go to camp.  My parents call “PawsAWhile” kennel  – “camp”.  Cute huh?  It’s run by a group of really sweet ladies called nuns – I don’t quite understand what a nun is but what I do know is they treat me like the little prince that I am.  Their mission (so says Mom) is to care for animals and they do a great job.  SO, while I will of course miss my parents if they DO go on a vacation next spring, I will be in good hands at camp!   I even have a special bag that Mom packs my stuff up in when I go – it’s a kids’ teddy bear backpack.  My treats and favorite toys fit inside it and the nice ladies there think it’s a way cool thing!  I also take my favorite quilt which my Aunt Carol made for me when I was a baby.  It’s folded on my window perch and I like to have it with me when I go to camp.

Of course all of this stuff depends on whether Mom and Dad really DO go on vacation next year.  Being humans, they tend to change their minds a lot!

Well, I’m off to get my breakfast.  I hear the magic sound of a little can of kitty kat food being opened down in the kitchen.  Oh boy…..a guy’s gotta have plenty of energy around here and it all starts with breakfast……Oh – before I forget – thanks again for helping me and Mom decide how my blog should look.  I’m happy things turned out the way they did!!

Mom Mowed The Dirt Yesterday

Standard
I love playing in dirt....Mom's not so thrilled about that though!

Grass? What grass? Our yard is weeds and dirt this summer!

Where’s my yard???  My pretty green grassy yard dried up WEEKS ago and all we have now is crabgrass (which grows very well I must say) and dirt.  Now don’t get me wrong – I happen to LOVE playing in the dirt – but I also like to munch on the grass from time to time.  Nothing “munchable” out there anymore…..it’s dried up and blown away in the breeze.  Sniff.

Anyway, yesterday Mom got the lawn tractor out and I thought to myself “humans are nuts – there’s not a blade of grass out there and SHE’S gonna mow!”…………but then I noticed down in the front yard that the crabgrass was pretty high.  High enough I could see it flapping in the breeze – Mom likes a “neat” yard just like she likes a “neat” house.  So I realized she just wanted to clean things up a bit outside.  When the tractor started up I just watched from the front door inside the house – didn’t take her long to finish up.  Still, it looked like this big cloud of dust moving around the front yard because she was surrounded by DIRT flying up around the mower!  My Mom the dust cloud….HAHAHAHAHA

I really miss my grass though……..crabgrass does NOT – repeat NOT – taste good enough to eat.  I like that nice tender green fescue stuff…..something tells me I’m going to just have to wait until next Spring to see it again.  It’s been horribly dry and hot this summer and our yard is too big to keep watered with sprinklers and stuff.  WAY too big.

I remember when I was little Mom got one of those little containers of “kitty grass” for me at the pet store.  She watered it and the grass grew and we waited and watched it getting taller and finally she put it on the floor for me to munch – YUCK!  Mom likes to tell the story of my reaction to the kitty grass…..I took one bite and promptly spit it out and tried to bury the whole container under a throw rug.  That was the last experiment with grass around here!

Sigh…………so I’ll try to be patient – either for a week’s worth of rain to bring back my pretty green yard before fall gets here…..OR for next spring when I KNOW it’s going to be fresh green stuff coming up out there……..and I can pretend I’m a GOAT again!!!!!

Happy Thursday Friends!

Waiting for Mom to call me to breakfast!

While I wait for Mom to open up a can of my favorite Fancy Feast for breakfast this morning, I thought I’d whine a bit about FOOD in general!

I’ve always had a sensitive tummy.  It started back when I first came to live with Mom and Dad.   The shelter told them to feed me hard kibble because they’d tried canned stuff and I’d been sick, sick, sick.   In fact I was STILL sick the first few days when I got to my new house – but Mom found a Friskies hard kibble that I really loved and soon I was right as rain.  In fact, I HATED canned food and refused anything Mom tried in the canned department – although I would drink the water from human canned tuna – in fact I loved that!!  Anyway, I ate Friskies for years and years – until all of a sudden, over a year ago or so, Friskies just stopped making my favorite kind!  I was devastated – I even went on a hunger strike (which didn’t work so well)……..How could they just STOP making my favorite meal????????????  Mom even wrote to the Friskies people to ask WHY?!  Of course she never heard back.  Poor Mom – she probably spent hundreds of dollars trying everything on the shelves of every pet store in the entire state trying to find something I wouldn’t turn my nose up at!   She even tried to get me to eat raw food which would (so she says) be the very best thing for me to eat………..NO WAY  BABY……….not for this guy………

One thing I WOULD eat was the semi-crunchy cat treats that come in those little bags.   I also eventually started eating some canned food like Fancy Feast – but only if Mom would mix lotsa water in it so I could slurp it up (loudly of course).

I think I’ve finally forgiven Friskies for removing my favorite crunchy food from their lineup of food.  It took a while, but now I’m eating some canned wet food along with crunchy cat treats.  I still have digestive issues (my doctor says that’s just ME though because I’m a nervous type guy) but I’m very healthy, and not overweight (I love my doctor!).  He even said my weird combination of super wet canned food and cat treats was perfectly fine for me.  It wasn’t easy getting to this “good place” though with my food – – – – after ten years of eating just one kind of Friskies hard food – and loving it – it suddenly disappeared and I didn’t understand why (neither did Mom!).  But we adjusted…………..kicking and screaming (and screeching) but we did it.

Oh goodie!!!  Mom just called me to the kitchen.  I have this feeling it’s gonna be Salmon Feast (with tons of water of course)………off I go!  Hope your breakfast is as yummy as mine is gonna be……..

From “Handful” to “Armload”…That’s Me!

Standard
Alright - so I'm even MORE of a handful now than I was when this pic was taken!

This was back when Daddy could actually HOLD me.....now that I'm 14 lbs. I'm even MORE of a handful! HAHA

Ahhh….another week begins.  Actually the only day of the week I “know” is Sunday and that’s because one of my parents brings the Sunday newspaper inside and I get to play with various parts of it while they read the rest.  All the rest of the days are pretty much the “same old, same old”…….

But that’s another story……I was looking at some of my old baby pictures and realized that I used to be pretty darn small.  This old photo of me in Dad’s arms was taken after I’d lived with them for a few weeks – nobody could say for sure how old I was at the shelter but I was a lot smaller than this!  We cats can grow FAST!  I really don’t remember much about how I got to the shelter to tell you the truth.  They told my parents that I was “found” under an old house.   All I know is I was one lucky kitten to have been at the shelter the day Mom and Dad came in because they adopted me and I’ve been spoiled rotten ever since.

I know that I’m not THAT big of a cat really – Mom had a good friend that had two cats that each weighed 25 lbs. and there are LOTS of people who have big cats like that – or even bigger!  Mom says I eat like a little piggy but imagine how much food those BIG cats eat……wow……If I wasn’t so picky about my food who knows how much I might weigh.  YIKES

I already know today is going to be the day I have to get my nails trimmed.  It’s quite a project, thanks to me and my squirming!  Daddy holds me (haha) and Mom trims my nails.  The hardest part is my extra toes on my front paws (so she says).  I usually try to stay very still but not TOO still – I want to make it a bit of a challenge for them.  Tee Hee….yeah, I’m a little devil alright! 🙂

I guess I’d better go now – if I’m not mistaken (and I never am) Mom’s got the pantry door open where my food is…..I need to get down there and get in position to give a “thumbs up” approval or a “thumbs down” rejection of whatever she puts in my dish.  I like to keep her on her toes – – – I change my mind frequently – – – what was yummy one day, might be icky the next.

Life is good……..I hope BREAKFAST is too!!!
