Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Hi everyone……Thursday is here already.    Time for us to be THANKFUL “out loud” for Brian’s Hop.    If you’d like to join in and tell everyone what you’re thankful for this week, click his badge and link up.    It’s also Poetic Thursday with my Angel brother Sammy.    Every week he gives us a photo and we use it as inspiration to write a poem – lots of fun.

First up – thankfuls.   I’m so thankful my parents are protected by having had their shots and I wish, hope and pray that everyone gets the shots.    Herd immunity will work if everyone participates and protects themselves AND those around them.    Also very thankful that we have so far one of the prettiest Springs EVER.    I’m spending more time than ever out in the yard thanks to the willingness of my Mom and Dad to take me out and let me wander (or lie in the grass which is my favorite thing!).    Thank you Brian for hosting a Hop that’s ALLLL about being thankful!

Thursday is Poetry Corner Day!

Hi everyone.   Those of you who participate in my Thursday poetic challenge make sure and leave your link to your poem in our comments here on my brothers blog.    We want to read your poems!    I try to find fun and interesting photos for us all to use as “creative nudges” for our brains – inspiring some great fun as we read everyone’s poems.    

Here’s last week’s photo that I gave you to write a poem about to share TODAY with everyone.   You always get a whole week to think about what to write.    Today I’ll give you a photo for NEXT Thursday.   Plenty of time to CREATE!!    This photo I gave you last week could have been taken within a couple miles of my house – the Virginia countryside is covered with farmer’s markets and produce stands by the road just like this one!

There’s just nothing like home grown goods

With luck there’s a farm close to your neighborhood

Grocery stores have plenty of “fruit and veg”

But their freshness is often just “on the edge”

Buying from a farm or a roadside stand

Means you get super fresh AND give those farmers a hand

They’re friendly and happy to share the bounty

Often a short drive away in your very own county!

The best produce is often a short drive away

You’ll be surprised too at how little you pay!

 

We are so lucky to live pretty far away from the big city of Washington, DC.   We live in “horse country” near the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains and there are lots of huge farms and estates around here.    It’s VERY easy to drive out of our little town just a very few miles and find roadside stands or signs at farm entrances for fresh eggs and vegetables.    What a TREAT.    Not just that but Mom and Dad say you meet the NICEST people selling their wares.    Lots of farmers even give their “extra produce” away.   They’re just happy to have someone take and enjoy their bounty.     Sharing is caring.

So here’s the photo I found for you to use for NEXT week’s poem.   You’ve got a week to come up with a poem – remember, poetry takes MANY MANY forms…..short, long, rhyming or not – it’s in the WORDS and not the size of the poem.

Kind of a fun photo isn’t it?   I wondered what that lead duck has on his head –  a hat?  Earmuffs?   This will be a fun one for us to use as inspiration for a poem.    We’ll share them next Thursday.
