Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Thank goodness it’s Thursday – and we can all be thankful together again.    I’m very thankful that Brian hosts this Hop – we can share our thankfuls and be reminded how lucky we are every week.   This week I’m super thankful that my Mom is doing so well after her surgery – she will be discharged from home care on Monday then start outpatient therapy.    YAY MOM!  Of course I’ve been of significant help – rooting her on from the sidelines – staying out of her “lane of traffic” in the halls so she doesn’t step on me – and keeping her company when she’s napping thanks to pain meds.   I’m ALSO thankful Angel Sammy’s poem arrived in time for me to share it with you as I do every week!

Welcome to Poetry Day!

Hi everybody.    Time for us to share poetry with each other – hopefully you used the photo I gave you last week as inspiration and came up with something to share with us all today.   I wrote mine AND I also found a new photo to give you as inspiration for NEXT Thursday’s Poetry Day.   Ready to start?

Here’s the photo from last week.   My Mom absolutely LOVED “I Love Lucy” and I’m sure there are some of you who have never even heard of it.    A truly crazy weekly comedy with Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnaz.     This photo was a shot from the adventure Lucy and Ethel (her “bestie”) had working in a candy company.    All they had to do was package up the chocolates as they came down the line………well…….the supervisor thought they were doing so well they could SPEED UP the line a bit……Lucy and Ethel had to resort to eating them, hiding them in their clothes, ANYTHING in order to keep up with the line.    Hilarious?   OH YES INDEED!

“Speed Things Up!”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell        ©January 28, 2021

It seemed like a good idea at the time

A decision based not on reason or rhyme

Getting a job in a candy shop

Candy being produced practically non-stop!

Package them up in boxes lickity split

No time to think – no time to sit

If you did a good job, they’d speed up the line

If you could keep up with the candy you were doing just fine

The supervisor decided the line could move FASTER

If you weren’t able to keep up it could be a disaster!

Lucy and Ethel decided candy packaging was not “the life”

It was much less hectic – and more safe – to be a housewife!

That particular show about the candy shop was a classic.    Talk about a good excuse for a giggle…………………anyway, that was fun and I think you’ll enjoy the photo I have as inspiration for your poem for NEXT Thursday too!   Here it is and you have a whole week to work on your poem to share with us next week………….

Talk about the WILD WILD WEST.    Looks like the genuine article.   There’s even a “saloon dog” on the floor by the bar.   What tales he could tell!     So this is your inspiration for a poem for next Thursday – give it a try – you might have fun coming up with something to share!

In the meantime, stay safe and healthy and above all SMILE……………………..we have a lot more to smile about than we did a few weeks ago RIGHT?   RIGHT!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Sammy

♥♥♥

Thanks Angel Sammy………and thanks to you for helping me take care of Mom.   She’s behaving pretty well though I must admit!     See you next week……………..

Hugs, Teddy

  1. Candy!!

    Weren’t we handy
    And somewhat dandy
    To land a job
    Packaging Candy!
    But oh the remorse
    When we had no recourse
But to fill up our mouths
    And swallow with force…
    So now we feel sick.
    Its hard to work quick…
    We’d best quit.
    Cause now we shall sing:
I can’t believe I ate the whole thing!

    I loved that show!!
I wrote this in another poetry comment:
I loved that one episode, I still have belly laughs if I see it now! Once there was a marathon of I Love Lucy, and a few of the peeps I was looking after that night were all watching it. We all got to giggle, and one lady almost fell out of her bed she was laughing so hard! It really made my day that those peeps were happy and forgetting their troubles for the moment! Slapstick fun like that, is rare these days.

The wild west is alive and well, if the shows I see peeps watching have anything going for them…all kinds of old western shows and movies! I get to see snatches of them when I work…

    • Thanks for the REALLY SWEET poem/note on your blog for me today! What a TREAT and very special. Thank you so much for being our friends……………..sorry you missed the photo for this week BUTTTTTT a lot of people didn’t know I Love Lucy from the old black/white TV days – maybe your Mom wouldn’t have known it either?!

  3. I am glad your mum is progressing well, Teddy.
I have never seen I Love Lucy so I was glad that episode was explained first. Great poem as always, Sammy.

    • I Love Lucy was really funny/silly. Lucy was always getting into some sort of mischief and her husband poor Dezi never QUITE understood some of the things Lucy managed to entangle herself in. He was Cuban and was in actuality (and in the series) a bandleader who traveled so Lucy got to practice her craziness all over the place. Anyway, that episode was one of the funniest.

    • Great job on the poem…..I just KNEW it would be a fun photo for poetry. I hadn’t really thought about the fact some people had no idea who Lucy was…or anything about the show. It was a real favorite!

  4. Glad you are feeling better and on the road to recovery. I think your description of it being a process put it in perspective. You have a great ginger nurse there in Teddy Boop! Great poem for this picture. Lucy and Ethel were magically funny… a special comedy team!

    • They really were amazing……..never missed a beat. Classic humor that you didn’t have to sit and try and FIGURE OUT – it was “in your face” and hilarious!

Big Hugs – the Ginger Nurse is making me behave.

  5. Loved your poem. And so glad you are feeling better and able to blog. XX That saloon picture is fun to look at. I wonder what on earth the towels on the customer’s side are for. Or maybe I don’t need to wonder about that. Hehehe.

    • Funny you mentioned those towels – I saw a lot of saloon old photos and there were always rags hung up……I decided maybe for spills? Clearing up the blood after a gunfight? Cleaning up chewing tobacco messes? Maybe we don’t WANT TO KNOW!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA

    • My patient has been very good about sticking with my orders. This morning she went a bit outside the box by stripping her bed of sheets and putting on fresh ones…..THAT was a duty reserved for my Dad but since he was downstairs having his coffee, Mom figured “WHY NOT”. Well, I’m not sure her hip was ready for that level of activity so now she’s getting ready to prop herself back up in bed and rest. Anyway, I’m keeping a clos(ER) eye on her now!

Happy Thursday – glad you liked Angel Sammy’s Lucy poem!!

    • Yes that was nice of YAM to do that – I should have thought of it. Most people seem to know Lucy and that episode – amazing how worldwide the love for her was!! We loved your poem – it was GREAT!!!

  8. WE loved Lucy. The plots were so juicey, and Desi was a doll as Lucy was his moll. How we miss the old themes in place of the “memes” and when mama and papa want a lift, if you get my drift, they tune in to “Friends” as the evening ends and go to bed and go to bed with happy hearts instead of poison darts from politics and strife, so unhealthy for life. So go, Lucy, go, and rerun your show!!!!

Hope your mama is going to do better than anyone knows and will surprise you all with her first break dance….oops, didn’t mean that.

    • HAHAHAHA! Great poem and we wish we could see reruns of Lucy here too. They rerun a lot of other things like Andy Griffith Show and others but Lucy made EVERYONE laugh! Mom is doing VERY well – way quicker and better than her doctor or therapists thought she would – – – but that’s because they don’t know how determined my Mom is like I do!!!!!!
