Hello Fellow Thankful Peeps!! Yep – it’s Thursday already and time to be thankful. If you’d like to join in the Blog Hop of Thankfuls hosted by our pal Brian, just click their badge above and link up!
We are thankful this week – my Mom and Dad are thankful that they found an Angel Sammy bench for the backyard so they can keep a close eye on me when I’m out lying in the leaves……….and I’m thankful that they continue to let me have as much time outside as I get. No doubt about it, my first year before I went to the shelter OBVIOUSLY was an outdoor year for me. I get very excited when I’m in the fresh air. I guess it must remind me of my “beginnings” !!
It’s wet in this photo – took it while it was raining a week ago – and YES it’s not really an Angel Kitty on the back of this pretty metal bench – it’s an OWL but Mom and Dad are pretending it’s an Angel Kitty…………so we call it The Sammy Bench!
Speaking of Sammy, I have his email from last night’s “Rainbow Bridge” transmission that he sent. I’m so glad his wifi works as well as it does up there! Here’s the poem he did for this past week’s poetic Thursday!
♥♥♥
Hello Poetic Friends!!
It’s that day of the week that we gather together and share the poems we’ve written during this past week based on the photo I gave you. I love love LOVE this week’s photo too – my Mom tried really had to find the photo she has of herself as a little girl talking on the phone BUT, my Grandma’s photo box is a mess and Mom couldn’t find it. Suffice it to say, she said back in those days she had TWO imaginary friends that she used to talk to when she played in the yard AND when she talked on the phone. They were named (yes they make no sense) “Dodo” and “Apodee” (pronounced dough-dough). Who knows where THAT came from….not me. Anyway, apparently from what we’ve heard from her Mom when she was alive and her older sister – my Mom would have rather lively conversations with her “friends”. I guess “KIDS WILL BE KIDS” right?
So here’s the photo followed by my poem…………….if you wrote one, let us know in comments so we can read it!
“Hello Granny”
Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell ©May 22, 2019
Hi Granny, it’s your favorite little girl
You know me – the one with blonde curls!
When are you coming to visit me please
I love sitting in your lap and riding on your knees!
Will you bring me a new dolly with eyes that close up tight?
So she can get a good sleepy with me in my bed at night!
Will you bring me a penny for my piggy bank?
I’ve been ever so good you know, I haven’t had a spank!
Hurry on over soon because I miss you so
You know I’ll cry REAL BIG when you say you have to go…..
I can’t wait to see you and give you a big kiss
Then when you leave I’ll be sad again cuz my Granny I will miss…………
My Mom rarely saw her Grandmother – in fact, she only had one Grandmother growing up……and she passed away when my Mom was in her early teens. She was always a little bit envious of other kids who had TWO Grannies and got to see them all the time. Grandparents are important people – – – I kind of wonder what kind of cats my Grandparents were – well I suppose I also wonder about my parents as well since I was found under an abandoned house at the ripe old age of about 4 weeks old!!! Guess they forgot to take me when they moved. Maybe because I was too small…………….
Anyway, I can’t wait to see what you wrote this week………….if you’ve never TRIED to write a poem for Poetry Thursday – give it a whirl. I get very excited when someone new joins our little poetry group AND excited when you regulars write a poem as well. It feels good to create one doesn’t it!
Ready to see your photo for NEXT Thursday’s get together????
This will be a good one…….
So, there’s your challenge for next week. Can’t wait to see what you do with it………….and you have a whole week to think about it. I’ll see you next Thursday……..until then, LOVE ONE ANOTHER, BE HAPPY, and of course WRITE A POEM!
Love, Angel Sammy
♥♥♥
Angel Sammy I do like your poem for this week but I can’t WAIT to see yours and everyone else’s poem for NEXT week! I miss you Angel Sammy…….please visit me in my dreams and teach me things I need to know.

Mom says they had three or four benches like that at the place she and Dad got it – it was very tempting to get ALL of them to put all around the front and back yard.

Angel Sammy apparently approves of the new bench – he’s arranging for us to have rain to rinse it off so it’s nice and shiny every few days! HAHAHA

That is a sweet poem about the excitement of talking to a very loved granny.
I love the bench and think it looks more like an angel kitty than an owl. A fitting tribute to Angel Sammy.

My Mom says when she saw the bench she really did NOT think “owl”……..the people at the shop said it was an owl but she (and we) think ANGEL KITTY!!!!!!!!

Mom and Dad sit on it while I’m lounging in the backyard – works out great. Dad takes a book out with him (is he watching ME or the book?!) and when Mom’s out there she just enjoys the fresh air and watches me rolling in the leaves!

Ohhhh Teddy that bench is absolutely the most beautiful piece of garden furniture I have ever seen in fact I’ve never seen anything quite like that. I can visualize Angel Sammy perching there watching over you when you are in the leaves.
I love your poem and the conversation is so very true. My maternal Annie Ma was exactly as you described in the poem.
Thank your mom for finding the wonderful pictures each week.. Next week’s made me giggle.
mine is here

Hi Miss Cecilia! We think your poem is PUUURRRRFECTION! I think all of the ones we’ve seen so far today have been just as adorable – a simple photo brings back memories or fires imaginations so nicely doesn’t it? Next week’s is totally cool – my Mom saw an exhibition of modern art a few years ago and the only reason she stood in front of some of the canvases and stared for a while is to figure out WHY ON EARTH someone considered it art. She finally told herself that some people like to use their imagination without any “assistance”………she said the white canvases were “snowstorm” paintings! HAHAHA Mom and Dad got the Angel Sammy bench from Plow and Hearth. We love it.

The Angel Sammy bench is a beauty, T. If you hop up there, maybe your mom can take your picture. Or if you’re like me, you can hide underneath.

Cupcake Mom put me on it and I immediately fell through the slats….HAHAHA…..I didn’t understand how to walk on it with the spaces between the bars across. So Mom put me on her lap and I stayed for about five seconds before hopping down to go hide under a bush!

I love that bench and I think it is an angel kitty, not an owl. Excellent poem, we both had the same thought that she was talking to her Grandma. 🙂 I lost my favorite Gramma when I was 10 and I wasn’t really close to the other one. My great-niece is blessed to have great-grammies and several grammies ( nana, mimi, etc). XO

The more family the better I’m sure……..I really never had a lot of family myself. Just one set of grandparents we rarely saw…one Aunt, one Uncle and three cousins…….that’s it other than my brother and sister. I know so many people who have TONS of family and it’s just something I can’t really “identify” with myself. Family reunions must be fun with a crowd!

Coulda fooled me that wasn’t an angel kitty on the bench. And it looks much better than that art in the photo… I hope the museum didn’t pay much for that “masterpiece”. And if they did, boy do I have some art I’d like to sell them!

I thought that photo for next week was just too hilarious – we ought to get some good poems out of that one. Artists sell stuff like that for HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of bucks – man oh man we are all in the wrong business!!! Get out your blank canvases and sign them……..!!!!!

We thought it looked a lot like an Angel Kitty – Mom fell in love with it at Plow and Hearth Outlet (she’s drooled over their catalog for years). It was half price – how could you NOT get that right? It looks cute in the back yard too. We ALL want it to be a kitty and not an EVIL BURD right? Right! We love your poem for the photo this week – it’s a cute photo and I just bet this little girl IS ordering ten pies and having all her little girly friends over for tea and pizza! Thanks for visiting us – we sure enjoy seeing you…….

One of my cats (she was rescued from 80 feet up a tree where she had been for 3 days – one of which was a blizzard- so maybe she IS part owl) looks quite owlish. She has a large round head, big yellow eyes, and of course her ears stick up.
That is a VERY cool bench. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

You are right about beauty…..and your “owl kitty” sounds quite pretty actually – big eyes and large round head – Mom says I’m a bit like that too. What a story about your kitty though in a tree for 3 days. Brave girl indeed.

Glad you like the bench….we love it. We had a TERRIBLE storm here yesterday evening – it was VERY fast moving and the sky got dark as night – high wind and torrential rain – lasted about 10 minutes – there was a tornado in Maryland but not here thank heavens. Have a GREAT Friday!

Isn’t that bench COOL?! Mom says she had no idea it was an owl on the bench until the sales lady said “oh you like the owl bench??” – then Mom and Dad looked CLOSER and you can see the owl face but they will always consider it an Angel Kitty ANYWAY!!!!

Oh, what a beautiful bench that is, Teddy! I think it could very easily be seen as an angel kitty, and I love that you call it the Angel Sammy bench. Angel Sammy, both the photo and your poem are so sweet and nostalgic. This here human had three living grandparents growing up, but to be honest, it was just one grandma I saw often. To this day, she still loves to celebrate all of her grandkids’ birthdays and all that fun stuff. And the photo for next week is going to so fun to work with. The options are endless with it.

I’m glad you have family to enjoy – grandparents are important people in your life – they have all that history and can tell the best stories of “the way things used to be”………!
