Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Thursday and time for thankfuls with Brian.   If you click his badge you can go to his blog and join/link up to be thankful with all of us who participate.    First Thankful:   Thanks Brian for being so generous as to host this Hop!    Second Thankful:   Mom, Dad and I and all of our family and friends are healthy.    We have all got to remember in these times to be thankful for our health and if we DO know someone who is fighting the virus – or any other illness – we must be thankful that they are getting care and stay hopeful they will be well again soon.

I always am thankful when I see an email from Angel Sammy on Wednesday night or Thursday morning because it means he’s sent me his POEM for the week!    Here’s his email below.

♥♥♥

It’s Thursday and I’m THANKFUL !

I’m thankful that I can still have fun with all of you who enjoy poetry even though I’m at the Rainbow Bridge and have been there since December 2016!    I was able to get a great wi-fi connection to my little brother Teddy and that’s why I can still send you and him my poem every week along with a photo for NEXT week.    It’s so much fun writing a poem with an interesting photo as inspiration isn’t it?   If you haven’t done it – give it a try – just let us know you wrote a poem and either share it in our COMMENTS or give us a link to it so we can read and enjoy it.

Here’s the photo I gave you LAST week to use as inspiration for your poem for TODAY:

“Midnight Magic”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell    ©May 13, 2020

When the park is quiet and midnight approaches

When the people have gone home in their cars, boats or coaches

The magic begins at the midnight hour

Under streetlight glow giving darkness it’s power

The carousel horses who worked hard by day

Magically slip their harness and poles and run away

To romp and run in freedom as drives their spirit

Until the dawn bell rings as only they can hear it

The signal to return to their place on the wheel

Remembering their night and the freedom they feel

But the magic returns every night in the park

When carousel horses dance in the dark………………..

Oh how I loved this photo the second I saw it.    It inspired a million thoughts and frankly – a million different poems and ideas but I settled on just this one.    There is so much magic and beauty in the artwork and I wanted to capture that with my words.    Hopefully I did!

I also found a goodie for your inspiration in writing a poem to share with us NEXT Thursday.    Here it is – I hope you like it too!

Is this a winner or WHAT?    Mom couldn’t stop laughing when she saw it after I sent it in an email to Teddy.    Anyway, have fun writing a poem inspired by this photo for next week!

Please take care of yourselves and do all the things you know you MUST do to stay safe and healthy in these tough times OK?    It’s important……….somebody somewhere NEEDS YOU to be here so do what you should do to stay safe.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love and Rainbow Bridge Hugs, Angel Sammy

    • Well done! You and I went down the same road in our imaginations for this one. Next week’s is so funny – when David and I were in Venice on our honeymoon we went for a night time gondola ride but did NOT fall asleep – I think mainly because our gondolier sang to us the whole time (he knew it was our honeymoon and he had a FABULOUS voice!).

    • What a GREAT poem – it’s really perfect for the photo – I think everyone saw “freedom” in that photo and all the poetry I’ve read today from folks has been as magical as the photo. Thanks Mimi!

    • FREEEEEEEDOM!!!!! It is the very first thought I had when Angel Sammy showed me the photo he was using this week :)……..when everyone would be gone for the day the captive carousel horses would have some fun and freedom to run and get the cramps out (and lose the sticky candy from kids’ hands too). Next week’s photo is so hilarious don’t you think?!!

    • Thank you Carol – wish I could take credit for that painting but I was NEVER that good – I probably would have enjoyed digital artwork back when I was painting/drawing but my time came and went!

    • Oh I love love love your poem – it has a different slant than mine which is PRECISELY why we think poems from photos are fascinating. We all see and feel different things when looking at a photo – I personally would love the end of my life to be like this – – – magical transition. By the way I didn’t get a note that your blog post was up today – first time in AGES!

  2. I knew it! Those carousel horses play it innocent all day. At night they party. I’m pretty sure the same thing happens with the swan boats that live in the park near my house. #sneaky

    • I’ve heard a lot of people voicing this same idea and I believe it really does have merit….I also think our planet had a chance to “rest” with so much less pollution floating about – no cars on the road – clear open and starry skies……it’s a horrible pandemic but inside of the horror are some lessons and I pray we LISTEN.

  4. So the fun begins at midnight -sort of the opposite of Cinderella:) We are going to have to find one of those carousels and see if we can slip out at midnight with those adventurous horses.

    • I guess we’ll never know what happens in parks and carnivals AFTER everyone has gone home….but I’d like to think that the horses – who work hard all day – might just have a romp OFF the carousel before the next day of work!!

    • Oh yes!!!!!! I bet they are almost sorry to have to come back and work after having a run through the woods but then I ALSO bet they love hearing the happy laughs and voices of little kids they are giving rides to on the carousel too.
