Friendly Fill-Ins and Shopping!

Standard

Happy Friday everybody……….today is Friendly Fill-Ins day but it’s also Bacon’s Shopping Around The World so I will have TWO parts to my post today.   I’m going to START with Fill-Ins.    That’s a fun Hop co-hosted by Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andMeowing.   They each give us two sentences full of holes – well not holes really – BLANKS – and we fill in the blanks with whatever we want to and wind up telling everyone some new stuff about ourselves.   Makes it fun to hop around and read everyone’s “fill-ins”!    Wanna join us?   Click the badge above and visit McGuffy’s and fill in the LINKY TOOL and you’re IN!

Here are this week’s sentences and I thought I’d be generous and let my Mom fill things in………….her fill-ins are in RED.

1. I could really use a housekeeper – oh boy wouldn’t that be nice!!!! .

2. The National Cancer Society  is a charity that I like to support.

3. One time, I broke a memento belonging to my husband, and it took me a week before I could bring myself to tell him!   (and when I did he said no big deal it was fake anyway)

4. I wish that I had been less impulsive when  I was young.

Thanks Mom!   Well done.   I didn’t think I could answer these from MY point of view – they were more human-ish than kitty-ish.

Don’t forget everyone – if you want to play along, just visit McGuffy’s Reader so we can learn some fun stuff about you too!!

Now it’s time to SHOP AROUND THE WORLD……………….this is also a lot of fun – once a month we get an “assignment” from Bacon of what kind of recipe we need to share with everyone ELSE who participates.   We also tell the price we paid for the ingredients of this item AND show a photo if we can of it.    It’s very cool to see what other people pay for the same stuff we buy in our hometown grocery store.    Amazing the difference in prices around the world!    Our assignment this month was something that we consider comfort food like a dessert for instance.

Mom is going to give a recipe of something she’s given before but it’s still one of hers and Dad’s favorite desserts and she makes it A LOT.

Fruit Tart

Easy to make, delicious to eat and not one bit expensive in the long run (so says Mom).     The photo above is a strawberry tart but it could really be ANY fruit.

INGREDIENTS:

1 sheet puff pastry (that’s enough for two small tarts or one larger one but if you’re making more than two tarts, get more sheets of puff pastry)   ($4.89 on sale – Pillsbury)

Fresh fruit – washed  ($1.99 lb. for strawberries)

Sugar  (on hand)

Fruit jam or preserves   ($2.69 for GOOD strawberry preserves)

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to temperature given on puff pastry packaging.   It’s usually 350 but make sure and preheat to the proper temperature.

Unroll puff pastry and divide into two pieces.   Fold up the sides of the puff pastry about one inch all the way around so it’s double in thickness just around the edges.   Prick interior of puff pastry square with fork so it won’t rise as much as the outer edges will.      Cook puff pastry in oven for required time.    Allow to cool

You don’t have to cut your fruit if it’s small – for strawberries I slice them into fairly thin slices.   When pastry is cooled a little, I put a layer of fruit preserves on the bottom of the tart, then arrange the slices of strawberries nicely then drizzle more preserves on top of the fruit.   Sprinkle with sugar !     A dollop of whipped cream is a nice finishing touch but not necessary as these tarts are super delicious just the way they are.

EASY?  You betcha!!!     Now I admit I don’t eat the strawberries but I have been able to sweet talk Mom into sharing a little bit of whipped cream with me.    Tee Hee

Happy EATING!

Hugs, Teddy

  1. your fruit tart looke 87 times better than the cake-astrophe the mama made… love it… we agre with #4…. to be impulsive is mostly no good idea… instead to close a bad or annoying chapter we feel bad because we acted the wrong way… and to forget our own mistakes is much more difficult than to forget the mistakes of others ….

    • We thought your Mom’s cake looked delish and also used a ready-made pastry. My Mom says if not for those things she probably wouldn’t make pies OR tarts. Anyway, my Mom eloped when she got married the first time and THAT was her first big IMPULSIVE that she thinks wasn’t all that wise…..at the time IMPULSES are great but later sometimes “not so much” !!!!!

  2. Your mom’s answer to number 4 made me think of a Star Trek Next Generation episode called Tapestry. (I’ve learnt a lot from Star Trek.) To cut a long story short, the captain discovered that his past impulsiveness and mistakes made him who he is today. What a thought for the day! 🙂

  3. Aw, that’s so sweet that your dad wasn’t upset about your mom breaking that item of his…. too bad she worried so much about telling him!
    That fruit tart looks yummy.
Sounds like you may get some rainy walks outside today, Teddy!

    • Two-parters are necessary when we follow so many others!! I’m on my way to check you out now since I don’t get notice of your posts until LATE in the day usually! DUH – AOL is such a pain!

  4. Thank you for letting your mom participate in the fill-ins, I enjoyed her answers. The American Cancer Society is a wonderful charity, they help fund research that is always helping people to live longer. I am glad David was not upset about his memento being broken. That tart looks amazing, I will try that when I have fresh strawberries and my own jam. Have a great weekend! XO

    • Well your Mom makes good stuff too but it takes NO TIME or talent to do this tart………..just those meager ingredients and five minutes. Problem is no sooner do you get them made than you want to eat all of them so you have to start all over again!!!

  6. I love strawberries and cream tart! I make it the same way as you, but instead of doubling the pastry around the edges I carefully score about half way through all the way round so the edges lift during cooking to make a thinner crust.

  7. Love your answers. Funny how we worry about telling someone something and it turns out to be no big deal. The worry and stress all for naught.

    I ate the fruit tart.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥

    • The fruit tarts are so easy and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! You’re right about worrying because you really don’t know how what you say will be perceived. It’s better to just DO IT and deal with whatever comes than worry – plus you avoid ulcers that way! LOL

  8. We do have a housekeeping service every couple of weeks – when my human had a rotator cuff injury, it really helped, and the humans discovered they could keep it in the budget. Plus they do a WAY better job of cleaning the house than either of the humans! BTW, my human wishes she had been MORE impulsive when she was younger – she was the one with the cheap, not-a-stylish clothes because she was so careful about money! Now she wishes she had been a little more spendy.

    • Most of my “impulsiveness” had to do with relationships rather than purchases but I have to admit, I also didn’t have any SENSE about spending and what’s “appropriate” spending when I was young. It was just so dang easy to pull out the plastic but I learned rather quickly that when the bills came in, that plastic was better served to STAY in my jewelry box out of temptation’s path. LOL Ahhhhhh youth……those were the days.

  10. This recipe and the tart sound super delicious. Mom loves fruit tarts. Excellent completions on the fill-ins. Mom says if she didn’t have Chris to come work at house cleaning for us, we’d be up to our eyeballs (instead off just our knees) in cat fur! MOL. • Your Chris is a wonderful person – not only does she keep your house sparkly but when your Mom and Dad go away she’s right there to make sure you are looked after (and get lots of treats and nip!).

    • Dear Caren yes indeed – we are victims of Libra-ness. Funny that I would be so worried about David’s memento when it meant ZIP to him but I guess it was a lesson learned – we sometimes THINK we know someone better than we actually do!

      Love to you too……

    • Oh goodie – maybe my Mom won’t feel so bad about breaking Dad’s “thing” (which he couldn’t care less about but she didn’t know that!). Funny that humans collect so many THINGS then sometimes even forget why they wanted it in the first place.
