Friendly Fill-Ins and Shopping!

Standard

Happy Friday everybody……….today is Friendly Fill-Ins day but it’s also Bacon’s Shopping Around The World so I will have TWO parts to my post today.   I’m going to START with Fill-Ins.    That’s a fun Hop co-hosted by Annie of McGuffy’s Reader and Ellen of 15andMeowing.   They each give us two sentences full of holes – well not holes really – BLANKS – and we fill in the blanks with whatever we want to and wind up telling everyone some new stuff about ourselves.   Makes it fun to hop around and read everyone’s “fill-ins”!    Wanna join us?   Click the badge above and visit McGuffy’s and fill in the LINKY TOOL and you’re IN!

Here are this week’s sentences and I thought I’d be generous and let my Mom fill things in………….her fill-ins are in RED.

1. I could really use a housekeeper – oh boy wouldn’t that be nice!!!! .

2. The National Cancer Society  is a charity that I like to support.

3. One time, I broke a memento belonging to my husband, and it took me a week before I could bring myself to tell him!   (and when I did he said no big deal it was fake anyway)

4. I wish that I had been less impulsive when  I was young.

Thanks Mom!   Well done.   I didn’t think I could answer these from MY point of view – they were more human-ish than kitty-ish.

Don’t forget everyone – if you want to play along, just visit McGuffy’s Reader so we can learn some fun stuff about you too!!

Now it’s time to SHOP AROUND THE WORLD……………….this is also a lot of fun – once a month we get an “assignment” from Bacon of what kind of recipe we need to share with everyone ELSE who participates.   We also tell the price we paid for the ingredients of this item AND show a photo if we can of it.    It’s very cool to see what other people pay for the same stuff we buy in our hometown grocery store.    Amazing the difference in prices around the world!    Our assignment this month was something that we consider comfort food like a dessert for instance.

Mom is going to give a recipe of something she’s given before but it’s still one of hers and Dad’s favorite desserts and she makes it A LOT.

Fruit Tart

Easy to make, delicious to eat and not one bit expensive in the long run (so says Mom).     The photo above is a strawberry tart but it could really be ANY fruit.

INGREDIENTS:

1 sheet puff pastry (that’s enough for two small tarts or one larger one but if you’re making more than two tarts, get more sheets of puff pastry)   ($4.89 on sale – Pillsbury)

Fresh fruit – washed  ($1.99 lb. for strawberries)

Sugar  (on hand)

Fruit jam or preserves   ($2.69 for GOOD strawberry preserves)

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to temperature given on puff pastry packaging.   It’s usually 350 but make sure and preheat to the proper temperature.

Unroll puff pastry and divide into two pieces.   Fold up the sides of the puff pastry about one inch all the way around so it’s double in thickness just around the edges.   Prick interior of puff pastry square with fork so it won’t rise as much as the outer edges will.      Cook puff pastry in oven for required time.    Allow to cool

You don’t have to cut your fruit if it’s small – for strawberries I slice them into fairly thin slices.   When pastry is cooled a little, I put a layer of fruit preserves on the bottom of the tart, then arrange the slices of strawberries nicely then drizzle more preserves on top of the fruit.   Sprinkle with sugar !     A dollop of whipped cream is a nice finishing touch but not necessary as these tarts are super delicious just the way they are.

EASY?  You betcha!!!     Now I admit I don’t eat the strawberries but I have been able to sweet talk Mom into sharing a little bit of whipped cream with me.    Tee Hee

Happy EATING!

Hugs, Teddy

Shopping and Filling In on Friday!

We’re SHOPPING and FILLING IN Today!

FIRST UP……………SHOPPING!

Time To Shop With Our Pal Bacon!

Actually we need to thank everyone’s pal Da Phenny and his Mom for hosting “Shopping” this month for Bacon and his Mom – and Phenny picked one of my Mom’s favorite things to eat – POTATOES!    Any recipe that has potatoes in it – that was our assignment and while Mom has about a gazillion recipes involving potatoes – THIS is one of the most simple and delish ones!

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes!

First up – the shopping part of this post – we actually had butter, salt, pepper, dry mustard and onion already – so we didn’t shop for that stuff but we DID get a pound of red potatoes and some honey!

One pound Red Potatoes:   $1.33

12 oz. Pure Clover Honey:  $2.99

Here’s the full ingredient list:

1 lb. red potatoes – quartered

2 Tablespoons diced onion

1 Teaspoon dry mustard

Pinch of salt and pinch of black pepper

2 Tablespoons of melted butter

1 Tablespoon of HONEY

Preheat your oven to 375.   Lightly coat an 11×7″ baking dish with cooking spray (oil works too but spray is easier!)

Layer in a single layer the potatoes and top with the diced onion.  Combine the other ingredients in a small bowl then drizzle over top of the potatoes.

Bake 35 minutes (or until potatoes are tender) and make sure to STIR it all about half way through the cooking time.

VOILA!   Easy Peasy!

As I said before, my Mom is a potato nut.   She loves potatoes………..she makes family favorite potato salad frequently, and loves “twice-baked” potatoes………..and baked sweet potatoes and – well you get the picture – she does love potatoes.    These honey potatoes are just too easy NOT to make and they really are tasty and NOT too sweet.

Mom says I look a little like a BIG RED POTATO……HUH????!!!!

P.S.   Don’t forget to hook up to Bacon’s blog if you post a recipe!

Second part of my post today is FRIENDLY FRIDAY FILL-INS which is a fun Hop hosted by McGuffy’s Reader and 15andMeowing………………..every Friday we get FOUR sentences with blanks to fill in.   You can join in this fun by clicking on the badge above and going to McGuffy’s to fill out the link form and VOILA – you will be filling in sentences too!    Thanks to Ellen and Annie for co-hosting this Hop.

Here are this week’s sentences!   I let my Mom fill in today – aren’t I nice to SHARE?????   The spirit of Thanksgiving is still here I guess………anyway, her answers are in RED.

1. I start to decorate for Christmas/Hanukkah THIS WEEKEND!   Always right after Thanksgiving.

2. I prefer a fake/artificial Christmas tree because I don’t have to remember to water it and there’s less mess.
3. The best thing about the holidays is seeing so many people smiling and enjoying themselves – and of course being with family.

4. The worst thing about the holidays is that they are OVER too soon and I must repack/re-store all my decorations – that is always sad!

I really don’t know what to expect for the holidays this year since I’ve never had a “Christmas” before but I do know that if it makes Mom and Dad happy, then I will be HAPPY TOO!!!!!!

SHOPPING and Filling-In!

Another Two For One Day!

We have “Shopping Around the World” with Bacon of PIGLOVE today and we also have “Friendly Fill-In Friday” with McGuffys’ Reader and 15andMeowing.    Which one should we do first?   I say:

Let’s fill in our sentences then we’ll go shopping…….this is a fun hop co-hosted by the above two blogger buddies and boy is it FUN.   They give us sentences, and we fill in the blanks and because it’s a HOP we get to HOP around and find out stuff about all our friends because of how they filled in the blanks!     If you click the badge above, you will be transported to McGuffy’s where you can join in the fun with the LINKY tool !

I’m letting Mom answer again this week – I’ve been very generous I think letting her STAR on Fridays but in actuality, most of the time the sentences are more “human friendly” than Teddy friendly.   So let’s see what Mom has to say shall we?   Her filled in stuff is in BLUE.

1. I am far too old to wear the tight jeans that I love to wear but I say “SO WHAT”!

  1. To save money, I don’t often buy things for the house – I keep towels for instance until you can almost SEE through them (slight exaggeration!) but I kind of figure as long as things WORK, I won’t replace them.   I certainly haven’t ALWAYS been like that though – trust me!
  2. LIFE matter(s).
  3.  The leaves coming down makes me think I don’t have much longer to wait for fires in the fireplace.

OK Mom – good job.    Our thanks go to Annie of McGuffy’s and Ellen of 15andMeowing for this fun weekly Hop.

NOW for our next half of the blog today!

Shopping Around The World

This one is super fun too because it’s ALWAYS interesting to get more recipes but it’s even MORE interesting to see what people pay for the stuff they use to MAKE their chosen food item.   That FOOD ITEM this month is DESSERTS!

This probably sounds crazy but my Mom and Dad almost ALWAYS eat dessert when they go out to dinner but they hardly EVER have dessert at home.   Notice I said “hardly ever” because Mom DOES make dessert from time to time.   Here’s an EASY one and because my Mom is a NUT for coconut (hahaha) she loves these!

CHOCOLATE AND ALMOND MACAROONS

INGREDIENTS AND PRICES:

3/4 cup condensed milk ($1.99 for 14 oz. container)

1  14-oz package sweet flaked coconut (two packages of 7 oz. – each package $1.84)

1/4 to 1/2 Teaspoon almond extract ($4.99 for two oz.)

1/8 Teaspoon salt (we had some)

24 whole unblanched almonds ($8.99 for 16 oz. package)

1/2 cup dark chocolate morsels ($3.49 for 10 oz. package)

DIRECTIONS:

Stir first four ingredients together…………..and drop dough by tablespoons on to parchment paper lined baking sheet (if you grease the spoon a little it will drop out easier!).   Push an almond into the top of each macaroon.   Bake in 350 degree oven for 15-17 minutes until golden brown.   Remove and let cool.

Microwave 1/2 cup chocolate morsels on high for a minute and 15 seconds………..stir well……..when cooled off, dump in a freezer bag and cut a hole in one corner so you can drizzle chocolate on the macaroons!

EASY PEASY and do I have to tell you how delish these are?   Well, I wouldn’t know myself of course but my Mom absolutely ADORES them.

If you have a DESSERT recipe to share today – make sure and link it up to Bacon’s blog at PIGLOVE so he can drool over your recipes but also so his Mom can collect all the recipes and make new snacks for Bacon’s Dad!

THERE YOU HAVE IT!    Friendly Fill-Ins and Shopping Around The World

See you tomorrow at the BACON HARVEST on my blog.   Sheeeeeeeeeee-haaaaw we’re gonna have a good time!

WATCH OUT – COMIN’ THROUGH!!!

Hugs, Teddy (and Angel Sammy too!)

SHOPPING Reminder!

Getting Ready To Shop?

This is just a bit of a reminder that we (One Spoiled Cat) are going to be hosting Bacon’s SHOPPING AROUND THE WORLD again this month……………Shopping Day will be Friday, September 29th this month AND what we’re going to be sharing recipes/prices for is one of our most-est favorite-est things (at least it’s certainly our humans’ most faves) – do you remember what it is????

DESSERTS!

Yep!   That’s right – on the 29th you will write your Shopping Around The World Post and give everyone a recipe for a delightful dessert you know and love and that the rest of us can try out!    Part of the deal is giving not just the RECIPE and instructions, but also to tell us what PRICE you paid for all the ingredients.   That way we can either GIGGLE or CRY at the difference in prices where all of us live in the world and do our shopping!    It’s fun to see!   Trust me.

So, make sure and remind your humans because the 29th will be here before you know.   REMEMBER TO  LINK YOUR SHOPPING BLOG POST TO OUR PAL BACON AT PIGLOVE because he loves to read recipes – AND after all, he’s the KING OF SHOPPING anyway – we’re just substitutes!    Next month it will be back in his capable hooves.

Desserts – far as the eye can see!   Speaking of SEEING – SEE you on the 29th.

HELP!!!!!!! I can’t get UP!!!!

Love, Teddy

Shopping Around The World

Standard

Let’s Go Shopping!

Hi All!   Teddy here, and I’m hosting Shopping Around The World for my buddy Bacon and his Mom this month and I picked for our monthly recipe the wonderful world of……….

SNACKS!

That’s right – we all have a favorite snack that we grab to accompany us to the sofa when we watch the old TV at night, or a movie, or just to sit and munch when dinner is too much and starving is no fun!   So, this month we’re sharing something we love to snack on.   Here’s what you need to do to participate in this monthly fun.    Give us your recipe, including the price you paid for each of the ingredients and maybe a photo of it too – and we all have a blast visiting each other to get new recipes AND to see what things cost in other places then our own grocery store.  You will be amazed how the same item can vary by a LOT of $$$$ from place to place!     Don’t forget to LINK to Bacon’s Blog today so he knows you’re participating – the badge above goes right to his blog.

Here’s our contribution……………………………

My Mom and Dad absolutely LOVE this snack – usually in the cold weather but really ANY old time it’s yummy.

Chili Cheese Dip

Ingredients:

1/2 medium onion – chopped (Onion:  $0.16 each)

1 teaspoon oil (on hand)

1 clove garlic minced (Garlic: $0.59 each)

1  15 oz. can chili (no beans) (Chili: $2.69)

1 cup salsa (Salsa: 16 oz. $2.49)

1 3 oz. package cream cheese (Mom buys 8 oz. and uses half of it – 8 oz. costs $2.39)

1 can (2-1/4 oz.) sliced ripe olives drained (Olives: $1.29)

Saute onions in oil – add garlic and transfer to crockpot.   Add chili, salsa, cream cheese, and olives.   Cook on LOW for four hours – stirring occasionally.    By the way, Mom mashes up her cream cheese before it goes in the crockpot but you DO NOT HAVE TO – it kind of “melts” into the rest of the ingredients as it cooks!     Serve with chips or WHATEVER………it’s delicious (so says Mom anyway).

We are going to host AGAIN next month – Shopping Around The World will be on Friday, September 29th so put that on your calendar NOW while you’re thinking about it!    What will our item of the month be??????

DESSERT!  Oh boy!

Yep – we’ll share our FAVORITE dessert recipe – my Mom says it’s been done before but who cares – everyone loves dessert right?  Right!    So we’ll be seeing you next month on Shopping Day too.

Happy Eating and Happy Shopping

Mom?   Is bacon a dessert??????

Love, Teddy
