A Sadaversary

Standard

One year ago the First King of Baconia departed his Kingdom for a HIGHER GROUND – the Rainbow Bridge.    December 2nd he joined several of his “besties” who had left just before he did – and they all got their wings within days of each other.

Sammy was a very special guy – how can I know that when I never met him?   Well, I know it because my Mom and Dad talk about him all the time, and once in a while call me “Sammy” instead of “Teddy” which of course I don’t mind…….not one bit…..Sammy left big paws for me to fill around here and I’m doing my best.

Mom wanted me to put the link up to the post she wrote the day Sammy left…………..it was a surreal day because it was also the day of the wonderful Blog Hop started by Sammy’s friends Easy and Madi and with help from Dory who set the HOP up for them.   The idea was for Sammy to hop in his balloon and visit anyone and everyone who signed up in the Hop – they could tell him a little about where they lived and he could “see the world”………….nobody knew that it was going to be the day Sammy became an Angel……….other than Mom and Dad.

Here’s the link to that post – the old Blog Hop is no longer available to see but this is the post Mom did that day – just click the Angel Sammy graphic below:

I don’t really need to go on and on and on about Sammy – most of you knew him better than I do – he was “one of a kind” – like all of us are, only somehow he seemed larger than life.   He will always be my best friend and my big brother and one day I know that I will join him at the Rainbow Bridge – like all of us will………….including my Mom and Dad…………

Here are a few more “bacon-related” graphics of THE KING………….I thought you might have fun seeing them again!

Lots of fun and lots of bacon………………..and life goes on.    It’s just a little different now without Sammy.

You Are Missed Dear Sammy…….always and forever

  1. you found the right word… a sadaversary…. our tears are running with yours today, while we remember this day and this haunted year what brought so much tears and sorrows to so many friends… but we have the Lake Sammy and we walk very often around this lake… and then we feel a little closer to Sammy and we always say hello to the tree where we placed the ginger kitty stone once…

    • Thank you sweet friends – we know that we have a very sadaversary in common with you – our hearts were broken at the same time last year along with some of our other friends also. What a tough holiday it was. I’m glad you still visit lake Sammy – when you put that stone there it was an honor we will never forget. Sending you hugs today and always – our hearts were broken but they have healed with the help of friends, family AND our sweet Phenny and Teddy!

  2. Sammy will be forever in our hearts. I remember he was one of the early followers and friends of Mr. Bowie. It is an honour to call him a friend.

    • Thank you Herman and Mr. Bowie for being such good friends to us through the years…….I know Angel Sammy keeps a close eye on Mr. Bowie and all of us and knew only love in his 17 years from his friends.

    • Thanks Madi and Mom! Come Fly With Me was epic and an amazing memory and we will ALWAYS ALWAYS be so grateful for that special Hop you and Easy organized and that Dory hosted. That day if I hadn’t had something to do I would have gone crazy. It was 10:30AM that morning that we went to the vet and said our goodbyes. The rest of the day I worked on posts and comments and loved seeing Sammy flying the skies in his balloon to see his friends all over the world. He will always be special to me and Teddy certainly keeps my heart warm too.

I know that you know what this pain of loss is like – you had to go through it twice – we get through it by reliving our memories don’t we……they were such a large part of our lives and live on thanks to their friends and our photos…..always and forever. Sending you hugs………

  5. Hugs Pam, David and darling Teddy. This was a difficult week for so many who celebrated their own Sadaversary. Angel Sammy brought so much fun to all who knew him with his constant search for new adventures, love of bacon and Tuesday Teasers. We are so happy he sent Teddy to you to continue the ginger line.

    • Thank you SO very much Inge and Scout Charles – your words mean so much. I know that many of us lost our “best buddies” during this holiday season last year – rather amazing how many – but I’m sure those at the Bridge have a big beautiful Christmas tree with ornaments of all of US on it (!) just as we have memory ornaments on our trees for them. Teddy is such a doll but Sammy left BIG PAWS (literally) to fill that’s for sure!

      Happy Saturday…….

    • Thank you Pix……..thank you SO much. I’m glad we have so many friends who remember him fondly and who helped make that last day of traveling in his balloon fun even in the middle of the sadness. Yes, Teddy is incredibly sensitive and knows that his Mom is sad today. He’s been adorable and very “huggy” and close by. Animals are so very special – and I’m so very happy to be a “Mom” !

Love and Hugs, Pam (and Butterbean too!)

    • Thank you Miss Ellen and kitties! I’m sticking close to Mom today – she thinks it’s rather magical that I’m doing that but really it’s just that we kitties are so sensitive and know when someone we care about is having an off day. I know…..and I will be concentrating on getting her to smile! I never met Sammy but I know he meant the world to Mom and Dad so that means he’s important to me too!

    • Oh Miss Laura and Kitties, yesterday was a very sad day but I did my best to cheer Mom up….I even got up in her lap and let her hold me for like 15 whole minutes! I also did something NEW – I played in tissue paper just like Sammy did…….and I spent a lot of time hugging pink and taking a big snoozer on it too. THAT makes my Mom VERY happy and remembering how much Sammy liked pink makes her happy too……….thank you so much for being our friend – it is such a joy having you as a friend. Forever.

    • I would have LOVED for Teddy to have met Sammy in person……they would have been quite a “team” and we would have certainly enjoyed that. As long as things seem to “work” for Angel Sammy to be around on the blog and at Scouts, we will keep him there……he is VERY hard to “let go” of……….

  11. Sammy was my bestest friend ever and my best man. I miss him everyday, even when I get to see his angel self at Scouts. Teddy, that is a huge compliment when your mom and dad call you Sammy. He indeed has big paws to fill. And that they sometimes mistake you for him, means you are doing a good job of that; though, of course, you are your own man, and Sammy was one-of-a-kind. I sure wish he could visit us in person, like angels do in the movies. Give your mom and dad extra love and cuddles today as they will miss him just a bit more today. Sammy will always be in the hearts of all of us at our house. Love and purrs, Mau and all the Kitties Blue and our mom and dad

    • Friend Mau I had to answer this note myself because we were – and still are – best friends. I miss you and everyone every single day and I know that no matter how “used” to being gone I am, I will always cherish my years with Mom, Dad, the blog, and Cat Scouts but most especially YOU. I’m honored that everyone misses me still. I realize that because my Mom is keeping me around (!) people are learning a little bit more about what it’s like at the Rainbow Bridge and maybe that’s a good thing? I’d love to visit in purrrrson but I must visit in your dreams so keep an eye out. Thank you for the sweet memories…..

    • Yes Caren I agree that it’s weird thinking about it having been a whole year since Sammy left. Time moves so quickly as we age and I’m aging for sure (!!). I loved every second of the almost 17 years with Sammy and think about him every day. I will keep him “alive” on the blog as long as it works. Teddy is our main man (!) but Sammy certainly is doing a lot of “training” with him I can tell you!! LOL Thank you for the support sweet friend.

  14. We can’t believe it’s been a whole year since Sammy ran off to the Bridge. But maybe that’s because you have chosen to keep his memory so alive for us, Teddy. It’s like he’s still here sometimes. We do miss seeing him…and send lots of purrs to you and your mom and dad on this day.

    • Teddy and I hope that we are doing the right thing keeping Angel Sammy “alive” through the blog and at Cat Scouts. Teddy is the STAR but Angel Sammy wants to keep his “voice” so as long as it works, that’s what we’ll do. It was so hard thinking about yesterday but the Blog Hop with him visiting everyone was a great way to say farewell. Thanks for the support……we had a lot of sweet people saying sweet things about Sammy yesterday and it warmed up what could have been a very cold and sad day.

We send love and hugs to your Mom and Dad Teddy. Sammy is very proud of the traditions you are carrying on and giving us all many smiles.

    • Oh thank you for saying that……..and we do hope that Dad had a fabulous birthday yesterday too. We are happy that Sammy is teaching Teddy so much – even if a big brother isn’t THERE PHYSICALLY, he can help “long distance” ! Thank you for remembering…………..

  16. I will never forget your mum and Sammy’s kindness when we were fundraising for Bootsie. Their support was immense and gratefully received. As a result I have always remembered Sammy in a golden glow of light, and his loss was a blow to us. We loved Sammy, now we love you too although we are rotten at the Tuesday Teaser!!!!

Sammy was one in a million, but you are doing a good job keeping his memory alive and making lots of friends.

    • Marjorie you are so sweet to say such wonderful things about Sammy – we miss him terribly but it’s so heartwarming that so many others miss him too. We weren’t sure about “keeping him going” on the blog but I think we did the right thing – Teddy’s the star but certainly gets help and guidance from his Angel brother. Sammy was special for sure but Teddy is certainly unique as well – one of the GREAT things about animals – they each have their own brand of “SPECIAL” and we are so lucky to experience that! I hope you and the Dash Kitten Crew have a wonderful holiday. You do a TOTALLY AMAZING job with the blog – one of our favorite destinations is catching up with the DASH!!

    • Thank you so much ES! That was a most amazing Hop wasn’t it? It took us all day to visit everyone who was involved and something I will NEVER forget – ever. I want to keep Sammy around for the special features and let Teddy “speak” with the blog the rest of the time. Having too much fun to stop! Appreciate the hugs…….we send you one back for being such a good guy with your fun Teaser Prison Tour (!!) and comments. You and your blog are just one of the reasons we keep on going (like the Energizer squirrel wabbit!).
