Here we are ready to celebrate the wonderfulness of yet another letter of our alphabet…………the letter “J” !    I agonized about this one all week………”J” is a swell letter of course but just not one that conjures up a long list of possibilities for me.

So here’s what I finally settled, on and I do hope you enjoy reading it…………………also, remember if you feel inclined to pawticipate in my Poetry Day, just post your own on your blog and you can post your link to it here in my comments if you like – – – OR you can even write your poem IN comments here and everyone will get to see it!   We can show the world we have a CREATIVE side and we are not just a bunch of PRETTY FACES right?  RIGHT!

Jungle

If I was a tiger I’d probably be a “wuss”

I could never bring myself to be a nasty, mean old puss

If I was a leopard I’d be spotted and so sleek

But when I opened up my mouth I’m sure that I’d just squeak!

If I was a panther I’d be a real black beauty

But my golden eyes would wink hello and I’d still be a cutie!

If I was a lion with mane all wild and free

I might be fierce and fast and big

But inside I’d still be ME!

When I was writing this one I kept thinking – “hey – all the BIG CATS are my cousins and I could easily have been one of the big guys in the jungle!”……..but these days, jungles are scary places for the big cats – even with laws to protect them, they are hunted and killed for their beautiful skin or to be someone’s trophy – or even worse, caught/captured and kept as a pet or stuck in a zoo or carnival never to be free – truly free again.    I’m lucky because I’m a cat with all the wonderful “cat ideas” and thoughts and traits but I’m SAFE in a home where I’m loved – captive?  No…..not captive – I’m where I want to be and I’m safe from predators and anyone who might want to hurt me just because I’m a cat.

Now excuse me while I go pretend I’m a jungle cat….

I’m sure there’s an ankle that needs biting around here somewhere!

    • Glad you like my “ODE TO THE LETTER J” today Easy. We get upset at the bipeds who think that killing an animal is FUN. I’m glad I’m just a housecat because if I was truly in a jungle somewhere I’d have one eye out for my next meal and the other eye on the trail for some guy who wants to show my skin off as a trophy!

  5. Sammy, you do a great job with EVERY letter of the alphabet. This is a great poem, and yes, although we are distantly related to those “big” cats, I’m glad we’re the household variety!

    • I kind of think all of us meowzers have a bit of JUNGLE in us. When we’re little (and sometimes even when we aren’t!) we love to STALK and pounce and carry our “prey” in our mouths…….you can take the cat out of the jungle, but you can’t take the jungle out of the cat!

  14. Such a Clever kitty. I love that you’ve made a poem that included all your cousins. I worry about them and how man is their worst predator. It’s nice to let happy catch up with me here today. Love you sweetness xo B

    • Oh Madi you made me feel so extra special with your comment about my poetry! I’m just having fun……….and Mom is too as she used to write a whole lot of poetry but hadn’t in so long…..we’re both exercising our brains (as little as they may be!!!!!).

    • Oh YES! I’ve been other cats thanks to Cat Scouts! HAHAHA……A proud Sabertooth Tiger now and sometimes when I dream, Mom thinks I might be seeing myself as a big hunter because my paws move like I’m running through the jungle! Thanks for reminding me that we ARE what we THINK we ARE…..!!! Thanks for pawticipating in my poetry day – I absolutely LOVED your poem as always!!!

    ewe was knot inn vited; sew ewe knead two fly a way

    • I love your poem and HATE BLOOOJAYS! They dive bomb me in my very own yard! Mom shoos them away and I just duck and run under a bush. They are MEAN and I do NOT like them! There are a lot of burds that are gross – blackburds are too…..they poop everywhere, chase everything else that’s moving, and make a heck of a lot of NOISE! Hope you guys have a rockin’ Friday (with plenty of fish of course!).
