One Purrrrfect Day

Standard
Love those azaleas!

What a pretty day it was Saturday.  The weather guys (who are frequently VERY WRONG) were wrong again because they said it would rain – instead we got a perfect day.   My parents and I spent a whole lot of it outside in fact.  I was supervising (of course) and they were working in the garden but when they weren’t doing THAT, they were sitting in their yard chairs out in the shade sipping iced tea.  Mom spread one of my little kitty quilts my Auntie Carol made for me on the lawn by their chairs and we all just hung out.  I didn’t fall asleep or anything – but I relaxed and listened to my parents gripe about the squirrels!

Why pick on the squirrels you might ask?  Well, you already know that the squirrel-proof bird feeders are a joke around here because they’ve figured every single “squirrel-proofing” trick we’ve tried!  That really doesn’t bother Mom though because she loves squirrels and likes watching all the contortions they go through to get at the feeders – like flinging themselves off a nearby tree at the feeder and hoping for a foothold!

No it’s not THAT……it’s because they like to EAT the garden watering system hose.  Even if it’s buried under mulch they dig it up and take chunks out of it.  Personally I think black plastic tastes pretty disgusting but for the squirrels it’s a gourmet meal…..APPARENTLY.  Actually, I think they’re smart enough to know there’s water in the hoses and even though we keep a great big saucer of water out there JUST FOR THEM, they want the black plastic-flavored water instead.

Weird.

But because they chew holes in it, we usually have some “unauthorized” water fountains spurting up into the air in addition to the little watering sprinklers that are supposed to water the plants in the garden.  So today, Mom and Dad patched ALLLLL the holes up.  No more fountains – just sprinklers.

Wanna bet the next time Mom turns on the water for the garden sprinkler system we have more fountains?

Crazy squirrels.

Happy Sunday!

I'll just stay inside and play all day......

  1. What a great day – we were outside too, in Manassas…and went to the farmer’s market and a baseball game…just a perfect day! Glad you enjoyed being outside like I did! Those pesky squirrels are fun to watch, but I would be upset if they chewed my hoses too! I only have green ones…maybe they don’t like the color green!
    Happy Sunday, with hugs,Linda

  2. Wow, Sammy – sounds like a purrrrrfect day! I can just picture you there on your little quilt on the lawn. We have got rain, rain, rain today – I don’t think anyone will be spending any time outside around here!
Stay warm and dry inside, Sammy.

  3. If you’re getting rain like we are today, Sammy, you’d be snuggled down when you finish playing with your ‘new’ newspaper! It’s going to be a good day to snooze and be a bum!

  4. Glad you all had such a great day! We had such a heavy and fast downpour here that our basement flooded. UGH! Atticus and Serafina (our kitties) weren’t able to help us clear the water out of the basement. They were hiding in their safe spot behind the couch, recovering from the trauma of all the thunder and lightening.

    • Oh nooooooooo! Flooded basements are NOT fun – fortunately the one time our basement sump pump wasn’t working we discovered it before things got messy. There’s much to be said for being a cat in times like these – hiding behind a couch is ever so much more “fun” than cleaning up a flood in the basement. We have rain today but it’s of the gentle variety – thankfully.

    • Hi Cody!! I agree about squirrels – they know how to do just about anything to get into trouble! They dug some of Mom’s plant out of the ground that she’d JUST planted the other day – Mom laughed but I bet if they do it again she won’t laugh QUITE as hard!!!

  5. That cracks me up about the squirrel engineered fountains in your yard Sam. But I bet you parents don’t think that is all too funny. The squirrels like to chew on our siding and they chew the electric cord in the winter that runs to the birdbath. We have had to run the cord thru some really attractive(kidding)PVC that makes picture taking a challenge. Love the picture of you workin’ those steps! I have a blankie too Sam but don’t tell noBODY.

    • Ohhh! PVC huh? Well, THAT at least is a bit tougher to gnaw through than regular cord or hose!!! thank heavens our squirrels haven’t discovered the taste of siding – maybe ours tastes ickier than yours does???? My lips are sealed on the blankie thing….honest. 😉

  6. My human’s first thought about the squirrels was, “But that plastic CAN’T be good for them!” I think she has been living with us kitties for too long. (Like her whole life.)

    • Your human is totally right! My parents can’t believe the squirrels are munching on that icky stuff either but they don’t seem any worse for wear (unlike the garden hoses!).

    • Sam has control of the entire house but let’s keep that between us OK? 😀 He loves playing on the stairs and has since he was able to begin climbing them. He keeps the stairs AND his old parents in line quite nicely bless him. Enjoyed the latest batch of photos of your boy – he’s so darn cute!

      Enjoy your Sunday evening……..

    • Hi Miss Layla! Happy Earth Day to you and your crew…..hopefully everyone was able to go out and enjoy a prettier day than we’ve had here – although we NEED rain desperately, it’s been raining all day non-stop. Porch-sitting was the best we could do today to celebrate Earth Day! Azaleas are pretty – we wish they’d stay in bloom longer but then again they’d get SO TIRED staying in bloom all year long wouldn’t they?!

  7. Mowzers, Mommy & Daddy complain about the squirlz too – only its cuz they get every last single one of the peaches off the peach tree! We wish Mommy would let *us* out on the lawn too (sigh…) Sounds like you have a meow-velous day!

    • Peaches huh? Well, it’s probably like the little boogers do with our neighbors’ apple tree….the climb up there, pull off an apple, take ONE BITE out and toss it on the ground – then go for another and another. ONE BITE….do they do that with the peaches too???? They might be kinda cute but they sure can tear things up out there!!
