Howdy shoppers (and eaters!). Another fun blog hop from my Cousin Bacon of PIG LOVE………..where Bacon gets us all to share a recipe and the prices we paid for the ingredients and we can laugh or cry at what WE pay compared to everyone ELSE in the world! Fun yes?
This month’s challenge was to provide details for an appetizer, meal, or dessert with at least FIVE ingredients………..Mom has this really yummy thing she does with APPLES this time of the year when apples are plentiful so that’s what I’ll tell you about today!
Caramel Apple Dip
Ingredients:
8 oz. cream cheese
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1 teasp. vanilla extract
1 tblsp. granulated sugar
APPLES
Here’s what we paid!
Cream Cheese: 8 oz. Harris Teeter Brand $1.97
Dark Brown Sugar: 16 oz. Domino Brand $1.25
Vanilla Extract: Harris Teeter Brand $3.77
Granulated Sugar: `16 oz. Domino Brand $1.69
Apples: Gala apples $.99/lb.
How to:
Stir first three ingredients to blend and spoon into a 10 ounce tiny casserole dish OR ramekin and level off the top with a spatula. Cover and pop in the refrigerator for AT LEAST two hours. Preheat broiler five inches from the heat…..sprinkle the granulated sugar on the top and put the ramekin/casserole IN a cake pan filled with ice (no I’m not kidding) and broil for three to five minutes until the sugar melts on top! Let it sit five minutes (so you don’t burn your mouth to bits!) and serve it with apple wedges……………OH MY! Mom and Dad say this is DELISH.
So that’s it for another SHOP AROUND THE WORLD from the town of Warrenton, Virginia!
SIGNING OFF…….Chef Sam
ice? Sammy that sounds tasty … and it looks like an experiment with the ice… we will try that… hope that’s not the post for mischief moanday hahahahaha

Mom and Dad love this stuff…..they have to be careful that they don’t eat TOO much though – remember apples are FIBER (eeeeek!) and you know what that can do to humans….HAHAHAHAHA

OMG!!! You paid $1.97 for your creamed cheese and we paid $4.37….EKKKK. That’s outrageous. This dip sounds good….I must copy it out and try it. I don’t care for apples but I should eat them and this dip will certainly make the apples more appealing.

We loved your stuffed mushroom recipe too…..my Mom and Dad love them. The creamed cheese is the store brand which ALWAYS is cheaper than the other types they have in the store.

The store brand is cheaper but not usually by a couple of dollars….the store brand is worth getting for those savings.

Harris Teeter is one of like FIVE grocery stores we have to choose from here in our town…..Mom likes to “move around” a little and shop here and there from week to week because they each have their “BETTER” departments! Fresh veg at one, better meat at another, etc.

Only the very TOP of the little “dip” is caramelized so if she breaks through that she can dip apples in and NOT have to worry about her teefs…..my Mom has the SAME problem!!
