Greetings everybody! Happy Thursday – time for us to get together thanks to our host Brian to share what we are thankful for this week. Life is significantly different for everyone I think during the pandemic but for us – life has slowed down so much our days are pretty much the same. The thankful part of that is that we remain healthy and I’m trying to make sure my Mom and Dad ALWAYS remember to wear their masks and social distance and so far they are doing fine with that. They don’t do a lot anyway away from home so I guess I’ve trained them well! If you would like to join Brian’s Hop – just click his badge above and link up with us.
The other thing I’m thankful for every single week is that my Angel brother Sammy sent me his weekly poetic challenge – where everyone writes a poem based on a photo he gives to us each Thursday. Here’s this week’s note from Angel Sammy:
♥♥♥
Hello My Friends!
Good to be with you every Thursday. I hope you enjoyed writing a poem to go with the photo I gave you last week as inspiration. I wrote mine and I’ll share it with you below AND will give you a NEW photo to work on to write a poem for NEXT Thursday. Having fun with poetry? I sure am…………I hope you are too.
Here’s the photo I gave you LAST week, followed by my poem. If you wrote a poem this week please let us know in the comments – we want to read it!!!
“She’s A Contender!”
Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell ©July 15, 2020
It was a high stakes tournament and it’s not looking good
It started on a dare by all the boys in the neighborhood
They knew Tommy and Harold had a friend in school
A gunky girl named Annie but they’d heard she was cool
She had a bag of marbles that she carried around
But if anyone had played marbles with her they couldn’t be found
So they decided to see if she’d play a game with them
Winner take all – this was SERIOUS business – not a whim!
Annie was up for it and the boys thought they had it made
They drew out the circle on the sidewalk in the shade
When Annie arrived she was so quiet and shy
They figured they’d win her marbles in the blink of an eye!
But to their surprise Annie was the best they’d ever seen
She won round after round until their marble bags were clean!
Harold was just plain mad but Tommy thought Annie was really groovy
He thought it might be fun to ask Annie to a movie!
Harold left the game mad because his marbles she had won
But Tommy thought Annie was cute and he’d had a lot of fun!
Much to his surprise as they were ready to say goodbye
Annie smiled at Tommy with a twinkle in her eye
She handed him back his marbles and said “thanks for not being mad….
Playing marbles with you was the best time I’ve ever had!”
That night Tommy took Annie to the ice cream parlor for a shake……
He had a feeling that it was the BEST decision that he would EVER make!
Do you think Harold and Annie might just have a future together? Well being able to win or lose and not let it go to your head is definitely an admirable trait! Annie was impressed anyway!
Now how about another photo for next week? I bet you we will have some fun crafting a poem for this one:
Yep – it’s summertime and who doesn’t like watermelon?????
I hope you will have a wonderful week ahead………………please everyone stay safe…………………protect yourselves and others – wear those masks and socially distance and WASH THOSE HANDS (or PAWS!).
and so a friendship starts… what a nice way to say I like you… marbles are good but a shake is better!!!
LikeLike
Yes we agree about the shake….in fact I’d like to have one right now!

We girls are a force to be reckoned with! Tommie and Annie learned some important things early in their lives when they played a game of marbles. You asked if Harold and Annie might have a future together? All things are possible!

I realized that there could be some “girl power” in that wonderful Rockwell painting….it took me a while of studying the painting to see how very cool and subtle the details really were to telling the story. I love that about Rockwell paintings – they are fabulous art but they are also fabulous messages. I’m so glad you liked it!!!!

I had 2 older brothers and I sure earned to play marbles. I wasn’t good at it. My brothers would collect the marbles back again that they had let me have. But I loved playing them.
XO to you Angel Sammy and Teddy.

That is a lovely poem, Angel Sammy. The boy in the red hat looked full of admiration, but the other boy didn’t look too happy. I think there was a good chance that it was the start of a very long friendship, maybe even leading to marriage one day in their future.

Glad you liked the poem – it was fun to write and really I had NO IDEA where it would take me as I began writing it. I seem to do that a lot – let the words take me with them instead of having it all in my head when I begin writing. Anyway, we liked your poem for this past week and I bet you we have a lot of FUN poetry this week too with that adorable baby and his “pet watermelon” !!
