Saturday Stuff

Sam Saying HI To The Camera

C'mon Mom....time to make breakfast!!

Saturday!  Kind of a day much like any other around here since my Mom and Dad are retired…..it’s not like they “sleep in” because they don’t have to go to work…….in fact they both still get up pre-dawn like they did when they worked!  Mom says some habits are hard to break.  Anyway, the one different thing about Saturday is that Daddy usually likes to have a big breakfast.  That’s OK with me because one of my most favorite treats (and yes I know I probably shouldn’t eat it but I do!) is always on the menu.  BACON!!!!!  I like a little piece of bacon.  That’s all I want – just a little piece – then I’ll walk away and leave my parents alone for the rest of their breakfast.

But that got me thinking…….I bet we ALL have our little favorite “treats” – some of us are content with regular made-for-kitty treats (which I personally love), but some of us also like stuff that our peeps eat too.

My particular favorites are:  bacon, butter, flavored yogurt (plain yogurt is yucky I think), once in a while a tiny edge of a piece of salami and I think that’s about it.  Now we’re talking TREATS here…..something you just get once in a while.

Come on everybody – ‘fess up……what’s it gonna be?  What goodies do you like?  (Human visitors can confess to their favorite sinful treats here too!!!!!).

Hope everybody has a nice Saturday – whether bacon’s on your menu or not!

p.s.  Monday the Mr. Chirpy caper continues in London with Kozmo from CATFROMHELL – make sure and tune in to my blog AND Kozmo’s!!!!!

Brave Little Me

Sam Standing at Front Door

I'll be right here when you get home Mom!

Bye Mom!  Daddy and I will behave ourselves – we promise – right Dad?  Dad?  Oh Dad?  Well, I’ll behave anyway!

Now, what should I do first now that Mom’s gone….let’s see…..I could go pull all the toilet paper from the rolls in all three bathrooms…..or I could go down to the basement and toss all the litter out of my box to give Dad something to do…..or maybe I could just go take a nap up in Mom’s studio where I can pretend she’s at the computer doing her thing.

It’s a rainy and windy day so I’m thinking Dad won’t be “up” for taking me outside, nor will I particularly be interested in getting soaked.

Maybe I could contact Kozmo from CATFROMHELL and see if he and the FBI (Feline Bureau of Investigation) need me to help out on the Mr. Chirpy caper?  Now that’s something that would surely keep me occupied the next few days…………….See?  I knew if I just stopped and thought about it I could come up with a plan.  Yippeee!

Chasing The Sun

Ahh....this spot will be sunny for AT LEAST another hour!

Hey...what happened...a few minutes ago the whole stair was covered in sun!

One thing all of us felines have in common it seems is our love of a nice, sunny spot…..sometimes we want to sleep in the sun puddle, sometimes we carry a favorite toy over to play with in the sun, sometimes it’s just to FEEL the sun on our fur.

But we are super good at learning where to be and when to be there in order to follow the sun in our houses.  In my case, we have three floors of possibilities.  Upstairs, while I love to snooze on my parents’ bed – it’s getting tougher to get up there as my “springiness” begins to get less effective as I age…..but the sun comes in the front windows best and the guest bedroom gets full sun every morning.  Then on the main floor, I have the stairs (like the photo), the library rug and Mom’s chair, under the dining room table (my pouting spot) and then in the afternoon when the sun is in the back of the house, I have the back of the couch OR I ask “pretty please” to go out on the deck in the sun so I can roll around and sunbathe.

Down in the basement I have a chair with an old yellow blanket on it that sits right in front of the french doors out to the backyard.  The chair has been right in that spot for my whole life and in the late afternoon I can ALWAYS be found snoozing there.

The sun feels good on my old bones……!

Oh – and before I forget to tell you – I’ve started my Santa Wish List and top of the list is something I overheard Mom and Dad talking about the other day – some “cat stairs” or a “carpeted ramp” so I can get up on my parents bed a bit easier since it’s so high off the ground, AND a nice heated and snuggly fleece lined bed so I can stay warm when Mom’s lap and legs (or a sun puddle) aren’t available!  I bet Santa can fit that stuff on his sleigh along with all the other stuff he’ll be delivering to us cats who’ve been good all year long so Santa will come – – – – am I right?

Happy Wednesday…… 🙂

Pigs In A Blanket?

Nap time.....again!

One of those nappy kind of days......zzzzzzzz

Happy Monday Peeps!  Here’s the thing on my mind this morning.  Mom says humans sometimes have a snack called “pigs in a blanket”………I think that’s just crazy!  Yesterday when she THOUGHT I was sound asleep she told Dad that I looked like a big red and white pig in a blanket.  Hmm….not sure how I feel about that….especially if it’s something humans EAT!   Now really – do I look like a snack?  I think I look kinda cute all snugged up in my blanket.  PIG?  Pigs are pink…….and they don’t live in big houses up on a big hill and eat Fancy Feast cat food, bacon, and butter.  Nope.

Alright - so I'm even MORE of a handful now than I was when this pic was taken!

Is this a picture of Dad holding a baby pig? I think not!!!!!

I think Mom and I will have to have a discussion about this pig thing this morning.   The only thing I WILL say about pigs is that I think they are kinda cute…………..so maybe I DO have something in common with pigs……..I mean I AM cute – right?

But I’m not pink!

Me And Mom

Sam up on our bed - staking claim to his favorite corner - must be nap time!

Betcha can't walk by me here on your bed without giving me a belly rub Mom!!

I have more news!  Yesterday I added that page on my blog for Mom….if you visit the blog home page you’ll see the link on top called “Mom’s Stuff”.  I was thinking about putting a bunch of her artwork on there BUT settled on one oil painting and one photo with a link to her website so you can if you wanna see ALLLLLLLLLL of her stuff.  Am I proud of my Mom?  Yeah….of course I am!

My Mom and I have a really close relationship.  Not that I don’t love my Dad ‘cuz I do – but I follow my Mom around everywhere she goes and talk to her all the time – she “gets” me more than Dad does; maybe because I’m the first cat he’s ever been around.  Mom’s an old hand at understanding feline stuff.  I have to admit that Dad’s come a long way since I came to live with them almost twelve years ago though – – – I didn’t think I’d be able to train him but after a lot of work I have to say he’s come along rather nicely!

Still, there’s nothing quite like my Mom’s lap for a nap…..and she’s the one who mostly keeps my litterbox nice and neat (I have a “thing” about that you know!).  She and I used to have our special time in the early morning while it was still dark.  She took me out on my leash and we’d walk all around the yard together ….. sometimes I would come over to her and put my paws up on her leg and ask her to pick me up and carry me – just so I could snuggle with her.  We’d watch the big airplanes flying overhead with all the flashing lights – and Mom would watch for shooting stars!  We don’t do those “in the dark” walks anymore though……now that we have our “visiting cat” Stevie, she stops by in the early mornings for her daily handout and I don’t like to be out there with her around – I’m working on being better about sharing my Mom but I’m still not very good at it!!!!!

Anyway, I’m a very lucky guy to have great parents……but I am really attached to good old Mom.

Happy Friday Peeps!!

Blog-Mania (Part 2)

zzzzz.....snoozin' on Mom's leg....zzzzz

You decide on the blog "look" - I'm tired - wake me when it's over......

Needless to say, Mom and I spent the afternoon looking at more themes for my blog and frankly – I’m pooped!  Actually, I think it’s down to THIS ONE (which I can still make some changes to) and my good old original blog look.  This webmaster stuff is tiring!

I think I’m one of those guys who doesn’t want a lot of choices.  I make up my mind quickly about stuff, then STICK with it intead of continuing to find options to worry about.  Know what I mean?  For instance choosing what to eat…..remember back when I first started my blog I talked about how Friskies no longer made my favorite-est ever food anymore?  I had a terrible time with that.  After 10 years of eating just one kind of food and whammo they quit making it – anyway, Mom and I tried bunches of things but once we found one I would eat – I’ve STUCK with it.  Period.  Don’t give me other stuff – just this.

From what I have seen (especially when I watch television!) humans like choices.  Lots of ’em…..and they switch around all the time…..one day this – next day that.  Hey….don’t get me wrong….I love my Mom and Dad and the few other humans I’ve managed to tolerate (tee hee:)) but humans are confusing.

But then………“They’re only human……………….”

Wake me when it’s over………….:)

Happy Hump Day (I heard Mom say that about Wednesdays – what the heck does THAT mean?!?!?!)

Quiet On The Hill Today….So Far!

Sam's house on the hill.

All's quiet up on our hill today....thankfully!

I’m happy to report that things are nice and quiet up on our hill this morning……!  We did have a little “wiggle” of the ground in the wee hours of the morning though – just a teensy tiny aftershock.  No biggie.   I didn’t even feel the need for my basement safe place.

So now we have to wonder what this hurricane Irene thing is gonna bring to us…..sounds like maybe just a lot of rain (which we need) and a lot of wind (which we don’t need) but who knows?!  Mom and Dad say the weather people don’t really know for sure WHERE it will go – yet.  Since our house is up on a hill we don’t have to worry about sitting in a big puddle or lake full of WET though!

I know that we have friends who live on the water or close to it so Mom and I are hoping that all of you are ready for the storm.  I’ve got all my toes crossed (and I have extra ones you know!) that we’re all safe and snug and Irene decides to spin out to sea and stay away.   But for today – while it’s still nice and quiet – you know what I’ll be doing!!

It's good to be me......

Wake me when it's over Mom.......

Happy Thursday Everybody!!!

Sam’s Morning Cruise

Good Morning Gang! Hey, I’m feeling pretty darned chipper this morning. Mom and I had a nice cruise around the yard in the semi-darkness and cool morning air. I of course had my harness and leash on (my Mom says “let’s put on your sweater!” when she puts my harness on….HAHA)…….and we had just been outside for around five minutes when I spotted a VERY unusual looking cat in our yard!  Wasn’t one of the frequent visitors like my semi-girlfriend “Stevie” or that nasty gray and white cat from next door….this was someone new.  I was most curious to get closer but Mom said NO WAY.  Why?  Because she said the unusual black creature with the white stripe down its back was NOT a cat.  It was something called a skunk.  Not sure what a skunk is but Mom says we don’t mess with them and we stay AWAAAAAAAY from them!  The skunk thing saw us too and we all stopped where we were and stared at each other for a bit – then the skunk thing ran off.

Mom says seeing the skunk around her gardens might just be the answer to who has been munching on her flowers!  We know it’s not the deer because she sprays some stuff on the flowers that has kept the deer away…….but Mom says nobody makes a skunk spray (in fact, she said skunks do their OWN kind of spraying!!).

Anyway, that was this morning’s excitement…..after that, I guess the rest of the day will be boring……then again, that just means more NAP TIME!  Nothing wrong with that!

Where'd that funny looking black and white cat go????

Where'd that funny looking black and white cat go????

See you guys tomorrow morning!  Same time – same place!

Sammy, One Spoiled Cat (wondering where that skunk thing is)

One Cool Cat……

No weather complaints this morning from THIS spoiled cat that’s for sure….it’s only in the 70’s and feels SO much better out there.  Those of us with fur or hair or fuzz or whatever covering our bodies appreciate a break from the heat that’s for sure.

This morning Mom brought her digital camera downstairs from her studio – I know what that means – she’s going to try to take more pictures of me.  I know I can be very photogenic but I also know that I have this trick I do when at the last possible second I turn my head and NOT look at her or the camera!  HAHAHA  Well, anyway I think it’s funny although she is not amused.

Mom and I were looking at some postings by her friends on Facebook this morning and she showed me some pictures that were way cool!  Mom’s friend Dana Smith-Mansell has some dogs dressed up with sunglasses and beach/pool gear…..got me thinking yet again about the possibility of a kiddie pool.  Anyway, I’ve never been to the beach before…..but for me, it seems like it would be just one great big huge LITTER BOX!!!!!

I’m off to see what kind of mischief I can get into.  There’s always one or two surprises just waiting to be sprung on Mom.  It’s a tough job but SOMEONE has to do it!

Enjoying the sunny stairs while in the A/C!

Hot, Steamy Monday

It’s ALWAYS hot on Memorial Day…..just seems like every year by now it’s pretty darn icky outside.  SO, I plan to just hang out with Mom on the front porch OR inside where it’s nice and cool and comfy.  The front porch is cement and that seems to stay nice and cool.  If my tummy is all spread out on the cement, it keeps the REST of me cool……..now if I had a pool, I could hang out by the pool I guess like the little boys next door.  I was watching them yesterday – they have a little blow up pool and were having a lot of fun jumping in and out of it.  I asked Mom if I could have my OWN pool too but she reminded me that the one and only time I ever had a bath (when she and Dad brought me home from the shelter) I totally HATED getting wet.  Hmm….well, I’d like to think I’ve learned to appreciate water by the ripe old age of eleven BUT maybe just walking through the wet grass after a rain shower is close enough????

Anyway, I’ll also hang out around the garden today – it stays nice and cool back in the shade of the back yard.  Speaking of that, here’s a test….see if you can find ME in this picture???  I’m there……admiring the blossoms on the flowers.

Test your eyes! Look carefully - I'm there!

HA!  You can just barely see me…this photo is a little blurry but I’m there!
