Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday!   A big thanks to our buddy Brian for having this fabulous Hop which allows us to share each week what we’re thankful for.   Want to join in?   Click the badge above and link up to share.

This week I’m thankful that we haven’t had any visiting bears even though we did have a visiting fox the other night who insisted on screaming loud enough to wake me and my Mom and Dad up at midnight.    It didn’t last long – either it got what it was hunting or a bigger predator chased IT away!    We aren’t so sure we like living in a wildlife sanctuary (hahaha) – but we do have a lot of things out there and I guess I never really thought about it but we see:  groundhogs, skunks, deer, fox, flying squirrels, owls, hawks, vultures, chipmunks, squirrels, snakes, and all kinds of birds.   Just a lot of activity mostly down in our woods where you expect a lot of animals to live.    Bears only twice in 23 years.   So yes I’m thankful that while there are a lot of cool animals, they aren’t being aggressive.    Our last bear was minding his own business in fact!

I’m also thankful I got Angel Sammy’s poem for the week……………..here it is:

It’s Time For Poetry Sharing!

Hello poetic friends……………did you write a poem this week?   Good!  Make sure and let us know you did in our comments here so we can read it.    If anyone new is tuning in, we share poetry every Thursday – poems we have written that were inspired by photos that I give you to THINK about all week before we share on Thursdays.    Give it a whirl.   Photos inspire all kinds of creative poetry!

Never written poetry before?  Well, that doesn’t mean you can’t…..you might like it.   Poems don’t even have to rhyme – they just need to stir someone’s imagination when they read it.   When you see a photo of ANYTHING, your mind tells you something about it whether it be good, bad, funny, sad – you feel different things that are easily converted into WORDS.    That’s a poem!

Here’s the photo I gave you last week followed by MY poem…………..then I’ll show you the photo I have for you to use for NEXT Thursday’s Poetry Day.

“Wearing Dinner”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      ©July 17, 2019

YIKES, I hope the plastic sheet is on the floor

WOOPS I splashed some on the door

UHOH I’ve got it in my hair

EEEK I think it’s gone everywhere!

YAY I can wear my bowl like a hat

OH BOY Mom’s face got red at that!

“Basketti” is the funnest thing to eat

Tasty red sauce from my head to my feet

The only bad thing about “basketti”

Is that I’ll have a bath before I’m ready!

Baths at night are best when I put on my jammies

After Mom’s cleaned the food out from my nooks and crannies.

Tomorrow morning we’ll start over again

When I dribble my cereal milk down my chin!!!

There’s just no doubt that babies have FUN when they eat.    This little kid sure had a blast with his “basketti” didn’t he.   His Mom probably spent some time getting the mess cleared up but know what?   She didn’t mind a BIT!   It’s what Moms do.    I know when I was a kitten once in a while I’d wind up with food on my nose or paw or chin and Mom never minded cleaning me up and I made sure to thank her with lots of love in my eyes!

Now here’s your photo for next week and I hope you will join us by writing a poem to fit this photo………………………c’mon you can do it………………

My Mom loves this photo.    She says it brings back some great memories.    Waiting for an ice cream sundae?   Malted?   Fountain cherry coke?    Mom says she loved them all.

So – it’s a date – I’ll be back next week with MY poem – and I hope you will be here with yours to share…………………….until then – have a happy week!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Thankfully it’s Thankful Thursday!    Remember you can join in this Blog Hop by just clicking the badge above and entering your link at Brian’s place.   We all share our thankfuls.    We must say first on our minds is being thankful that although we’ve been under severe storm watches almost every day for the past week, so far other than some high wind and heavy rain we have NOT had anything approaching “scary” like some other parts of the country are experiencing.    We’re also up on a hill so there’s no danger of flooding.    We sure do wish that the weather in the country would QUIET DOWN.    Everyone is on overload preparing or dealing with consequences of dangerous weather.   We send hugs of support to everyone who is having WAY bigger problems than we are.    Ann of Zoolatry sent out this awesome badge for anyone who wants to show they care to post…………we just love it.

The other thing we like to do on Thursdays in addition to Brian’s Hop is share the email we get from our Angel Sammy every week which contains his poem based on the photo he gives us to use as inspiration.   Thursday is the BIG DAY for that.    Here’s what we received from him via the Rainbow Bridge wifi !

Hello From The Bridge Poetry Fans!

Let’s have some poetic fun shall we?    Did you write a poem using the photo I gave you last Thursday as our “launch pad” ??   I did and if you did, let us know in comments here so we can come see your work.   Such fun to see how creative you all are and also fun to see someone who hasn’t participated in this every week give it a try.   BRAVO!   Going outside your comfort zone is good for you sometimes.

Here’s the photo I gave you LAST Thursday to use – followed by my poem:

“Now You See It….Now You Don’t”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      May 29, 2019©

Is that a fly on the canvas that I see?

It’s a tiny black dot – at least to me……

I’ve tried to see SOMETHING on this field of white

I certainly hope I’m not losing my sight!

Maybe the canvases are subtly shaded?

Maybe my love of art is becoming jaded?

Perhaps it’s an eye test….and if so I have flunked

Or candid camera maybe and we’re being punked!

Whatever is going on I’m afraid I am lost

Let’s go get a drink – I don’t care what it costs!

I really think this photo is great on many levels.    My Mom has been to exhibits of modern art before and other private art shows and seen similar canvases to these being sold for THOUSANDS of dollars.    She once asked an artist with a totally black canvas for sale for big bucks what they had in mind when they painted it.   The answer was “it’s whatever you want it to be”.     Well, my Mom did oil painting for years and there was never any doubt what the paintings were – landscapes, architectural studies, still life, etc. and perhaps that was BORING for the beholder but she felt a lot more comfortable KNOWING what it was.    Anyway, we do think this is a cute photo and can’t wait to see what YOU wrote today!

For next Thursday’s Poetry sharing……….I found another interesting photo for you to use for inspiration……….at least I think it is…………..

Oh yeah……………Mom says this reminds her of a few of her experiences at amusement parks!     I imagine we’ll have some good poems next week don’t you?

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Until next Thursday – be happy, be kind, and remember we at the Rainbow Bridge are watching out for you……

Love, Angel Sammy

Thank you Angel Sammy.    You can’t imagine how much I look forward to your Poems every week…………………..and I know you are looking out for us ALL THE TIME.

Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

YAY!   Thursday is here and so am I.   I’m going to share my thankfuls on Brian’s HOP then let Angel Sammy do his “poetic Thursday” thing.    I’m EVER SO THANKFUL that my Mom and Dad came home from being gone for four days last week – I wasn’t so sure after they dropped me off at the “spa” but they DID come back and they DID get me so I needn’t have worried.   I’m thankful that the Sisters at the spa love me.   At least I think they do – they visited me and petted me and fed me and stuff – that’s a good sign right?    I’m thankful my Mom and Dad had a good time in Maine too.   They deserve a little break.   If you’d like to tell the universe what you are thankful for on Brian’s Hop – just click the badge above, fill out the LINKY form and you’re IN !!

Now for the second part of my post – Angel Sammy’s poetry day.   You know by now he sends me an email from his cloud at the Rainbow Bridge that contains a little message from him and a poem based on the photo he gives everyone on Thursday every week to use as inspiration for the NEXT week’s poem.   Some of you are playing along with us on this and it justs makes HIM and ME so happy.   You’re all VERY good poets!   Give it a try.   Join in the fun.

Here’s Angel Sammy’s email:

Hello All!   Greetings from the Bridge!

It’s poetry day……………and I can’t wait to read your poem if you wrote one – make sure and tell us in comments that you wrote one and give us your link so we can check it out.   I love Thursdays so I can share my poem with all of you and just let you know that all of your Angels (including me) are always watching out for you even though we are no longer physically with you.   REMEMBER THAT!!

Here’s the photo I gave you last week – one that I hoped would spark your creativity and get you writing a poem for today!

My Mom loved this photo – she TOTALLY remembers these trucks and how exciting it was to see the guy ringing the bell and stopping at every block to let the kids gather round and get ice cream or sometimes just get to ring the bell or try on his hat!    Here’s my poem for this photo:

“The Magic Man”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell     October 24, 2018

The good old days were truly good

At least they were in some neighborhoods!

The Good Humor Guy came around all the time

Amazing how something so good could just cost a dime!

Kids would come running when they heard the bell

No matter what you got, it sure tasted swell!

He would time it just right so most dinners were done

It would be time for dessert with the setting of the sun.

Those days were so magic, and the drivers were magicians –

Ice cream was better “medicine” than what we got from pediatricians!!!

Alright – I have to admit, I invaded Mom’s dreams one night to get her feedback on the Good Humor guy she remembered – so this poem is almost more HERS than MINE this week!!

I guess it must have been a lot of fun back in those days.   Mom remembers all of this stuff from back in the 50s forward.    The last time she actually heard an ice cream truck it was an electronic song playing over and over and over and the truck was kind of speeding through the neighborhood like he was on fire or afraid to stop!    Well that kind of ruins the moment doesn’t it!

Here’s the photo that I found for you poets to use as your inspiration for NEXT Thursday when we meet again for Thoroughly Poetic Thursday……………hope you like it!

This ought to be an interesting one to put a poem to don’t you think?    Let’s see what you can do with it and I’ll meet you back here – same time, same place – next week.   Meanwhile, if you haven’t tried writing a poem – give it a whirl.   When you SEE something, things go through your head – feelings, thoughts, ideas – so just put them into WORDS – whether they rhyme or not is irrelevant – just say what you feel.

Right now I’m FEELING like I need to say goodbye.   You know we Angels here at the Bridge are incredibly busy – they keep us hopping here.   But we are never too busy to watch over all of you.  We’re here for you if you just want to talk to us before you go to sleep at night or if you feel lonely – you are never alone!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love to my little brother Teddy, Mom and Dad, and of course ALL OF YOU!

Well that was a totally cool poem Angel Sammy and I’m always happy when Thursday comes around so you will be sharing your poetry with us.   I’ll talk to you in my prayers as always – thanks for being my special Guardian Angel.
