Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Ahhhh…..another Thankful Thursday is here.   Thanks Brian for hosting this Hop – we are enjoying keeping up in these crazy times with our friends and hearing what they are thankful for.    If you’d like to join in please do – click his badge and link up with us.    We continue to be very thankful that we’re healthy and we hope and pray all of you are too.    We’re also thankful that we are getting a break from the heat – we have rain in our forecast for almost the whole NEXT WEEK!    Not a LOT of rain but rain nonetheless.   Enough to keep the green stuff out in the yard GREEN anyway.

We’re also thankful Angel Sammy – who we miss more than ever – got his Poetic Thursday email through the gathering clouds in time to be part of our post today.    Ready to see what he had to say?

Good Morning Poetic Friends!

Time for us to share poetry.    If you don’t know by now, every Thursday I transmit to my brother from the Rainbow Bridge, a message AND a poem I’ve written inspired by a photo that I thought might be fun for ALL of us to write poetry about.     You have a whole week to write a poem and share it here.    It’s fun – give it a try!

Here’s the photo I gave you last week, followed by my poem……………..I found this magical photo a FUN one to use as inspiration for my poem and I hope you did too.

“Decisions”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell        ©June 17, 2020

Down life’s path we wander along

Hearts full of sadness or full of song

Decisions we make as our journey unfolds

Bring joy or pain or surprises untold

You reach a crossroad and wonder which way to go

Take the easy road that’s light or the darker way that’s slow

Challenges make us stronger and our spirits hunger for change

Do we grab the first chance that comes along or go for the long range?

When all is said and done and our lives are at their close

Will we look back at our life’s journey at the pathways that we chose?

Oh I suspect we will all do a little soul searching when our time comes…………or maybe even along the way of our lives.    The photo we gave you this week has a million different scenarios that come to mind when you examine it closely.    I hope you took some time to write a poem about what you SAW in this photo.   It’s a DEEP photo in many ways.     There are so many messages in it that it’s almost mind boggling.    The more you look – the more you see.     That’s JUST the way life is – the more you look the more you see and the wider your life experience will be!

That’s enough philosophy for the day………how about taking a look at next week’s photo?     This photo was sent in by a wonderful friend and she’d seen it online and thought “that’s a GREAT photo for a poem” – I think she is absolutely right.     Have fun with this one…………..

Isn’t this beautiful?    What do you see?

Now I want to ask you for a favor…………please follow the guidelines that you on Earth have been given to avoid getting the virus – it’s important – your family needs you, your WORLD needs you and it’s a small price to pay to continue your life isn’t it?     Don’t be impatient – things will change – they already ARE changing.     All of us Angels at the Rainbow Bridge are hoping you will not be in a big hurry to leave your life there.    We’ll be waiting for you so be joyful, love life, and most of all BE CAREFUL!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love and Light………..Angel Sammy

Hi Folks…………and a hearty THANKS to Brian for hosting the THANKFUL THURSDAY Hop.    I can only say that I’m thankful that so far my Mom and Dad are well……….and that as far as we know, while there are virus cases in our County, there are none reported yet in  our town.    Mom and Dad are staying SAFE AS CAN BE.   I’m making sure of that!      If you want to share your thankfuls with us – click the badge above and go to the Hop to link up.

STAY SAFE EVERYONE………………………..

Hello From The Rainbow Bridge!

We are super duper busy up here……………..we are spending time trying to keep an eye on all of you – it’s what Angels do.    We know that the Human Angels are doing the same.   Trust us – we are doing our best to keep as many of you safe as we can but even this is something way beyond our ability to totally PROTECT you – so for that reason – PLEASE DO WHAT YOU ARE REQUESTED TO DO AND STAY HOME.    If you have to go out, STAY SAFE.

I hope you took your extra time at home to write a poem this week?    I look for photos that I think might inspire you – and I also write one based on the photo then we come HERE on Thursdays to share.   If you wrote a poem please let us know in comments so we can VISIT YOU to read it!

Here’s the photo I gave you last week along with my poem:

“Home Sweet Home”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      ©April 2, 2020

The years have passed – so many in number

Since Great Grandpa cut trees to make his own lumber

The house he built has withstood the test of time

Though some boards are rotting and are covered in grime

Life came and went within these four walls

The ghosts of my relatives wander the halls

One magical thing remains though from days of yore

The welcome wreath Great Granny made is still on the door……..

My Mom and Dad pass old cabins and houses like this out in the country all the time………..Mom wonders if they are occupied by ghosts of all those who lived in them and if they were generations of the same family or if people came and went as time passed.    When I was looking for a photo for this week the very first thing I saw IN this photo wasn’t the age on the house or the falling apart bench on the front porch or even the beautiful tin roof……………it was that wreath on the front door.    “Welcome All You Who Need Shelter”……………..and I think this old house was that for MANY through the years.

Here’s the photo I found for you all (and me!) to use as our inspiration for NEXT Thursday’s Poetic Thursday…………….you have a whole week to think about it and write a poem to share next week……………….

Oh boy – this will definitely inspire some INTERESTING poetry don’t you think?    Well as I said you have a whole week to see what you can come up with……………good luck!    I’ll look forward to reading your poems.

Keep the faith everyone…………………do as recommended to stay safe………………and be thankful for what you have not what you “can’t have” right now OK?

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love from the Rainbow Bridge……..Angel Sammy

Happy Thursday!   It’s HOP time and we have a chance to share all the things we are thankful for this past week.    If you want to Hop along – click the badge above and link to Brian then SHARE!

We had a BIG day yesterday – I was in hiding most of the day while three trucks full of worker bees were here installing a brand new Heat Pump in our attic.    We have a two-system house (whatever that means) and the furnace was fine but heat pump was “shot” (yikes – that does sound bad).    SO, they had to take apart the old one up in the attic then get it down through a little hole in Mom’s office ceiling – then town two flights of stairs and out to their truck.   I guess they were taking it to the HEAT PUMP GRAVEYARD somewhere.    Then they had to bring in the new one and take it up all those stairs and get it into the attic to install it.   They had to redo all the ductwork too because the previous installation had been done wrong.    ANYWAY, bottom line is I had to stay out of the way and I didn’t like the noise.   I had to forego all my usual activities because we’d been INVADED.    My favorite spots weren’t QUIET.    I wasn’t a happy boy.    TODAY I’m HAPPY and I’m very very very very THANKFUL that it’s over and done.     My parents are too.

As always I’m also thankful that Angel Sammy didn’t forget to send me his poem for this week…………and a new photo for us to use for next week’s poetry too!

Hello Poetry Readers and Writers!   Today’s our day to share!

That’s right – today we’ll share with each other our efforts to write a poem about a photo that I give you once a week to study.   You have a whole week to think about it and come up with a poem – short/long, any format – and on Thursdays we SHARE!    Did you write one?   If you did, let us know in comments OK?

Things have been busy at the Bridge.   Not quite as many partings as last month but our Bridge Welcoming Committee is always available and ready to welcome those who are going to rest up before returning for another of their nine lives.     We are like the ultimate B&B !    I had plenty of time to write my poem though so let’s get on with it.    Here’s the photo from LAST week that we all used for our poems this week.    I had a lot of you comment on this photo after I showed it to you – that you loved it and were inspired by it so let’s see what you did with it!!

“A Little Privacy”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      March 13, 2019 ©

The stuffy house party and shuffling servants

Helped to make some present not too observant

So the housekeeper and footman took their leave

A few moments of cool quiet – a valued reprieve

So many ears around in the kitchen and halls

Made conversation stunted listening for footfalls

Outside in the snow there were no distractions

The housekeeper and footman could pursue their attraction

When she became too chilled to continue the walk

They turned to come back and pursued their talk

Agreed upon liaison on their next free day

Would allow them the freedom to follow love’s way.

I really was intrigued by this artwork.    You can look at it closely and see little things that take your imagination down very different paths every time.   The fact the fence is broken on the left side like something fell through it…….the fact she has no gloves on nor a shawl on a snowy walk…….the fact it looks a bit like he has stopped and is beginning to turn around and go back but she appears to be resolutely continuing on.    He looks to be holding something in his hands….or is he?     Fascinating.   Anyway, that’s why sometimes photos like this make for very interesting poetry.

Now, would you like to see what I’ve found for us to use as inspiration for next week’s Poetry fun?

Let’s see what we can all come up with for this one………my Mom would say “I wish I could live there”……………….and in fact when she and my Dad were on a trip and took a canal cruise in Amsterdam they saw many houseboats that looked just like this one and she said that THEN too!

Good luck writing your poem.    Remember, you don’t have to be an accomplished poet to write a poem…….you just have to be able to say what you feel.   Sometimes it’s easier to do that on paper than it is to say it out loud.

Have a super week everyone……………………we at the Bridge are hoping you do!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love forever, Angel Sammy

Thank you Angel Sammy.    I like your poem this week and the photo for next week?   I think it would be a ton of fun to live on one of those………..maybe I can talk Mom and Dad into doing that?    No?   You think not?  You’re probably right………..50 years ago they would have though!

Hugs, Teddy

Thankful and Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone!    Time to get thankful “out loud” again with this Blog Hop hosted by our friend Brian’s – we join together to give thanks for our blessings and share and you can do the same if you just click his badge above and join us.

I am not just thankful but overjoyed that we FINALLY got some rain yesterday because we really, truly needed it badly.   The sad thing is we got three inches of it in about an hour which is a whole lot of rain much of which just ran down the yards in waterfalls instead of having a chance to soak in and do some good.  BUT we won’t complain really because it DID help our drought.   There was some serious flooding here and there but you almost can’t tell it happened today as everything is cleaned up and drying out.   I am thankful though – Mom has been having to water porch and deck and shrubs for WEEKS now but yesterday’s rain was most helpful.

Also I’m thankful that in spite of the violent thunderstorm with big lightning it did NOT interfere with Angel Sammy’s wifi connection he uses at the RAINBOW BRIDGE,  allowing him to transmit to ME, his poem for this week.   I look forward to hearing from him every week and I hope you do too.    You know he keeps hoping more of you will give writing a poem to share a try – maybe you will feel like taking a whack at it this next week?   We’ll see if the photo he gives us for inspiration is one you can feel comfy writing a poem about????

Here’s his email from overnight………………..

♥♥♥

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS FROM THE RAINBOW BRIDGE!

So glad the storm my little brother had around his house yesterday didn’t keep my email from arriving and grateful he didn’t lose power in his house.   It’s been so hot it would have been uncomfortable with all the heat and humidity if he hadn’t had his A/C.    I’m also grateful that up here at the Bridge we are comfortable ALL THE TIME!

Did you write a poem this week?   I try to find interesting photos for you to use as inspiration and I myself write one based on the photos I find.    It’s fun.   This is the photo I chose for all of us last week to use as inspiration for today.    How does the photo make you feel?  What do you SEE in the photo?   What can you write about that this photo inspires in you?

Here’s my poem based on the above photo………….

“River Queen”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell       July 18, 2018

Riverboat gamblers in a smoky room

Upright piano player playing a tune

Cigar smoke in layers in a room full of noise

Bartender asking “what will it be for you boys?”

Chorus girls dancing up on the stage

Winners are happy – while losers rage

All of that action in the riverboat saloon

Miss Flossie sitting on a stool singing a tune

Head out on deck for air in the still of the night

Takes your breath away watching the stars – oh what a sight

All the action inside with the yells and the songs

While the River Queen riverboat quietly glides along…………

That was a fun one……….I hope you had fun writing your poem this week.    If you did write one – just make sure and tell us you did in comments here with your link so we can go read it!   You can also write your poem IN our comments to share it.   If you didn’t write one – take a gander at the photo I’ve got for you for NEXT Thursday and see if you might be inspired to write one for NEXT Thursday when we get together again:

Oh I already have an idea what my poem will be titled – it hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw this photo!!   Inspiration is like that sometimes – it’s RIGHT THERE and you don’t even have to think about it.   Not always but sometimes.

I’ll look forward to seeing you all next week…….C’mon – join me in writing a poem.   You will enjoy it I promise!   Meanwhile, remember, all of us at the Rainbow Bridge whether we’ve been here an hour, a day or years love you and watch out for you 24/7.    We are always WITH YOU.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Teddy

Thanks Angel Sammy.     I loved this poem.    Of course I love all your poems but this one I think you might have had a bit of inspiration from Cat Scouts – am I right?   I know before I came along Cat Scouts took a trip to the Bayou in New Orleans and did a riverboat ride and stayed in a swamp one night where it was scary – mind if I show some of your old photos?   I still have your photo albums you know!    Everyone might enjoy seeing a couple.    Cat Scouts is TONS of fun and easy to join – if you’re a cat, you should visit and join up!

WOW……………….anyway, I can see where you got the idea for your poem and your photo this week.     Well, I guess it’s time to put a PERIOD at the end of this post and say thanks to everyone who played along with us on our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday.    Hope to see you next week……………..

Hugs, Teddy
