Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday!   Time to tell what we are thankful for since our last Thankful Thursday!     My biggest thankful really is that our very long wet run of weather gave us a break yesterday.    We had sun almost all day long and it was just so glorious.   Mom was finally able to mow the yard and I was finally able to “nest” in the back yard leaves without getting soaked.    It was heavenly.   Speaking of heavenly, I heard from Angel Sammy last night – he got through on his wi-fi connection and emailed me his poem and message for today!    YAY!!!!

♥♥♥

Hello Poetry Fans!

Here we go again – another Thursday and time for us to share the poems we wrote this past week using the photo I gave you as “inspiration” !    I also have picked out another photo which I’ll give you later for you to use for NEXT Thursday’s poetic get-together.

If you wrote a poem this week please let us know in comments here so we can visit you to read it.   I’m so happy some of you are joining in the fun and writing a poem.   Thankfully for all of us there are a LOT of poetic formats – some short like haiku and some long like mini-short stories – and even many forms that don’t rhyme…….so you can have FUN writing something using a photograph and your imagination.

Here’s last week’s photo followed by my poem for the week:

Howdy Partner!

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell        @May 15, 2019

A long hard day riding the range

Cattle moving slow in the mid-day sun

Hard life yes but you wouldn’t change

For you this life is perfect and fun

Time to relax and put up those boots

While ranch hands in the distance holler and hoot

Let them work while you take a break

Giving back to the land more than you take

A life on a ranch is in your blood

You’ll stand your ground in pestilence or flood

The family heritage is entrenched in this land

And you’ll love it until the day you die and take God’s hand.

I know my Mom talks about childhood memories and of course in her day every little boy watched cowboy movies, wore a cowboy hat and wanted to ride the range when they grew up.   Well Mom tells me that these days it’s harder and harder to hang onto the land and work it – especially farmers and ranchers.    It’s not an easy life but many of these ranches and farms have been in families for generations – you don’t just walk away from that I guess!

Here’s your photo inspiration for NEXT Thursday……………………..

Now let’s see what we all can do with this photo – I think it will make for some FUN poetry don’t you?     I hope you’ve all had a great week and that the one coming up will be too.    I’ll look forward to seeing you next Thursday.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love forever and ever, Angel Sammy

There you have it!   Another poetry Thursday and as usual, Angel Sammy has given all of you a fun photo for NEXT week just as he did with the one for today.    I hope you’ll give writing a poem a try if you haven’t done it before.   It’s easier than you think and it’s very cool to look at it and think “HEY – I WROTE THAT!!”.

Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Happy Thursday!    Thankful one too……and we are always thankful just to arrive at another Thursday.   Time moves so quickly – my Mom and Dad said so!!    I’m thankful that SO FAR when they say “snow” it hasn’t – BUT I think that my luck is running out because we could get 6-9 inches of it this weekend.   EEEK.   I’ll try to be thankful for how pretty it is when it falls though.    It’s the least I can do.     If you’d like to share your THANKFULS on Brian’s Hop, just click his badge above and join us!

Now, one more bit of business to conduct THEN I’ll show you the poem Angel Sammy emailed me last night from the Rainbow Bridge.    Yesterday’s TUESDAY TEASER TELL ALL we missed out on a cheer from the School Cheer Team – why?   Because they always have a tough time with a cheer when there are a BUNCH of winners.   We had FOUR FIRST COMMENTERS and – well – they were writing a cheer but fell asleep in their hot tub.   SHAME ON THEM – so we didn’t have their cheer in time for class.    Here’s the cheer they came up with.

This is tough writing about FOUR Firsties!
Good thing we’ve got a refrigerator cuz writing makes us thirsty!
Sharon, Carole, Charles and Jackie
If there’s been any more we would have gone wacky.
Congrats to you guys for being so FAST
You all got in before sixty seconds passed!
Bravo, woo hoo, and a great big yippy
Now pass us a brewski so we can have a big sippy!

Gosh, I’m not sure this particular cheer was WORTH waiting for!

Now onward to the second half of today’s blog which is sharing Angel Sammy’s THOROUGHLY POETIC THURSDAY poetry.

♥♥♥

Happy Poetry Day Everyone!

Did you write one this week?  Oh I hope you did!    It’s a pretty funny photo and hopefully it inspired some of you to write a poem – maybe for the first time or maybe not but at least I hope you had fun with it.    Every Thursday I give you a photo to inspire you to write a poem – – – and at the end of my poem today you’ll get another photo for NEXT Thursday!     If you’ve written a poem this week, let us know in Comments and we’ll come visit you to read it.

“Poor Pitiful Me”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell     January 9, 2019

I can’t believe this is the only costume they had

I wouldn’t be in this fix if I’d listened to my Dad!

He told me to go pick a costume up way before the party

But as usual I ignored him thinking I was such a smarty.

Now here I sit on the sidewalk while people laugh and stare

I might as well be sitting here in my underwear!

I’m gonna be late for the party now and my girlfriend’s gonna fuss

Because my costume was too big and they couldn’t push me into the bus!!!

HAHA…….I know it’s shorter than usual but I couldn’t resist………..it just “came to me”…………….this guy looks just so darn miserable doesn’t he?   Maybe it’s summer and he can’t breath inside that thing so he’s taking a break from some kind of job where he has to wear that “Big Scrat” costume…..WHATEVER is going on it’s not good.   But it did make for a fun photo to use to write a poem about.

So here’s your photo for NEXT week – let’s see what we can all do with this one shall we??

Yep – I think I’ve found another goodie for us to play around with right???   Right!     So, put your best poetry ideas to paper inspired by this photo and share with us next Thursday.   C’mon – you can do it.  If I can, you can.

Meanwhile, hope you all are well and happy.    All is well at the Rainbow Bridge – that should be no surprise to you – things are always perfect here!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Hugs and Love to You All !    Angel Sammy

I like this one Angel Sammy……..that guy in the costume is totally NOT happy but it sure makes for a fun poem.    I’ll look forward to hearing from you  next week my Angel Brother.

Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Thursday is here and so am I !!    I’m going to be THANKFUL first then onward to Angel Sammy’s weekly poem.    Thankful?  Yep – I always am.  Anytime I stop and think about my world, I realize it’s FULL of thankfuls.   This morning for instance I was outside with my Dad in the COLD COLD COLD and I realized at one point when I was hunkered down in the leaves that I really didn’t HAVE to be out there – it was my idea to go but I sure didn’t have to STAY.    I got up and lickety split headed for the front door dragging my Dad by the leash he was holding and back inside we came to get warm.   What if I had nowhere to get warm?   So many animals don’t.   Makes me sad thinking about them but I’m SO thankful I’m not one of them.

We got our regular email from Angel Sammy overnight.   So I’m able to share yet again his poem and a new photo for those of you who are playing along with us with the Poetic Thursday fun.   Some of you are “on the fence” about going out of your comfort zone to try writing a poem.  Let me encourage you to do it.   You just might ENJOY writing one!

Here’s Sammy’s email………..

It’s Poetic Thursday – are you ready?

Hi everyone!  It’s me – Angel Sammy – the cat poet here for another bit of fun with poetry on Thoroughly Poetic Thursday.    If you’ve joining us for the first time, every Thursday we share a poem that we have written during the week using a photo that I provide to you (and me) for inspiration!    What we see in the photo, how we feel looking at the photo, what it makes is think about, etc.   It’s up to you to write any form of poetry about the photo.    It’s fun.   Try it!    Last week I gave you this photo – and following it is my poem for the week.

“Magic and Mystery”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell     December 5, 2018

On misty shores the maiden moves along

Towards magical towers and a mysterious song……

Only she can hear.

The message in the bottle promised her love

If she’d follow the light and the sound of the dove……

Towards her hearts’ desire.

Her dreams led her here to this shore

To find the bottle to learn much more……

She was ready for adventure.

She’d been different from others all her life

Her illness was painful and hurt like a knife…..

It was such a burden for all.

The thought of some happiness drew her here

She felt something extraordinary was ever so near…..

She heard the music in her heart.

At the gates of the castle she was met by a light

It was burning yet cool and felt ever so right…..

The Angel said “Welcome to Heaven”.

OK – I can almost hear you.   This is very different for me isn’t it?!   Well this photo when I first saw it stirred something in me (and my MOM!) and we felt like it needed a different “message” than the usual.    I began writing it NOT with this ending in mind – it just CAME TO ME as I was about half way through.    Anyway, I hope you like it and I can’t wait to see what you’ve written!    If you wrote a poem this week, let us know in comments and give us your blog link so we can read it!   OR – write your poem in our comments so others can enjoy it.

Ready for next week’s photo?    Here it is!

This ought to be a doozie.   My Mom says no doubt this is what every shopping mall in the world looks like right about now.  I thought it would be a good photo to use for us to write about as we sneak up to Christmas!

Are you ready for the holidays?    I used to LOVE when the house got decorated.   Lying under the tree was my favorite thing.    That’s ME on the left and Teddy on the right.   I trained him well didn’t I ??

Sam Under Christmas Tree

So I will look forward to seeing you here next Thursday.    Give writing a poem a try.   You will be proud of yourself if you do and you just KNOW that I will be too!!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love Forever, Angel Sammy

♥♥♥

Oh Angel Sammy you are right – you really DID train me well and I never even met you but when I dream at night there you are……..helping me, teaching me, telling me things I could only learn from you.    I love Christmas as much as you did.    I’m still trying to decide if I like Dad’s train under the tree as much as you did though!    HAHAHA

Love, Teddy

Double Blog Day!

Gosh – last Thankful Thursday I was saying how thankful I was that my Mom’s cancer surgery on her face on August 15th was OVER and done – and today I’m thankful that her OTHER cancer surgery on her arm (which was done yesterday)  is over and done…..they are confident that things are FIXED.   Now I’ll be super thankful if that’s the END of Mom’s problems.   We’ve had enough of THE BIG C.    Mom’s been dealing with the greedy stuff since the mid 1980s in one form or another and is BEATING IT whatever it throws at her so we will keep praying and hoping maybe the journey is OVER.

We all have things we ARE thankful for or SHOULD BE thankful for……….and Brian hosts this wonderful Blog Hop on Thursdays so we can all share those thankfuls with each other – if you’d like to join us, just click on the badge above and fill out the LINKY form and you’re going to be thankful right along with the rest of us!

I got the usual email from the Rainbow Bridge last night with a message from Angel Sammy.    He said to tell Mom he’d be watching over her today AND to send his poem for this week.   Ready to read his poem??????

♥♥♥

Happy Thursday from the Bridge!

Whooopeeee!  It’s Thursday and I can spend a little time with all of you sharing some thoughts AND some poetry.    If you haven’t ever joined in our fun, all you have to do is take a peek at the new photo I give you every Thursday and let it inspire you to write a poem about what you see or feel in the photo – then share the link to your poem here in my comments on Thursday.   Easy right?   Then I will give you ANOTHER photo to use for ANOTHER poem to be shared NEXT Thursday.    So you have a whole week to write a poem.    I’m anxious to see what you wrote last week when I shared this photo with you for your inspiration:

Yep – this is a beauty alright.   When I chose this last week for you all to use for THIS week, my Mom got all dreamy-eyed and said it brought back a lot of very cool and fun memories from “back in the day”.    She had lots of friends who had vans like this…..and in the 60s/70s it was just so very “groovy” to be in one heading to a fun party or get-together with friends.   So here’s the poem I wrote using THIS photo as my inspiration – let us know you wrote one if you did so we can read it!

“Groovin’ Down The Highway”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell              August 23, 2018

The stories I’ve heard would curl your hair

Of magic travels in a colorful bus from HERE to THERE

Of friends and parties, and LOVE, and fun

Of enjoying each moment between dawn and setting sun

Mom painted pictures, read tarot, embroidered butterflies and flowers

It was in those days that young people talked of “flower power”

That was so long ago but the memories remain

The memories are there but my Mom is not the same!

On the outside she has aged but her heart remains young

There are more friends to make and more songs to be sung

She’ll be groovin’ down the highway of life until her journey ends

With help from above, and from her VERY groovy friends!

I can only imagine what things were like back then but I’m glad that Mom has happy memories because sometimes she gets this dreamy look in her eyes when she talks about “the good old days” but I also know that she loves her life NOW and wouldn’t trade it for those days – after all, my Dad and I weren’t around back then!!!

Now, would you like to see the photo I picked out for you all (and me) to be our inspiration for NEXT Thursday when we get together to share our poems?    Here it is:

Kind of different subject matter but I think it’s going to be interesting to create a poem around it don’t you?

To those of you who wrote a poem along with me last week – THANKS – I love reading your work……………….and to those of you who haven’t ever written a poem or shared a poem you have written – I hope you will open the door to your creative heart and JOIN US next week!

Remember – I’m always with you – you’re my FOREVER FRIENDS………………..the Rainbow Bridge is never too far away for a visit!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Sammy

Oh boy!   Another week of poetry…………and next week’s photo is so beautiful – sad, but beautiful.   Can’t wait to see what Angel Sammy write AND what you write.    Meanwhile, please have a super duper Thursday.   Tomorrow is the end of another week.   Can you believe it????

The last sniffs of Spring are coming soon – before you know it FALL will be falling.

Love, Teddy

P.S.   Did you all vote in yesterday’s poll to pick a new Ding Dong Schoolhouse?  Well you should.   Every vote counts and it will be the school where Professors Angel Sammy and ME will be teaching Teaser Class in the future………we have some wonderful choices for you!   Here’s the poll:

Thankful and Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday everyone!    Time to get thankful “out loud” again with this Blog Hop hosted by our friend Brian’s – we join together to give thanks for our blessings and share and you can do the same if you just click his badge above and join us.

I am not just thankful but overjoyed that we FINALLY got some rain yesterday because we really, truly needed it badly.   The sad thing is we got three inches of it in about an hour which is a whole lot of rain much of which just ran down the yards in waterfalls instead of having a chance to soak in and do some good.  BUT we won’t complain really because it DID help our drought.   There was some serious flooding here and there but you almost can’t tell it happened today as everything is cleaned up and drying out.   I am thankful though – Mom has been having to water porch and deck and shrubs for WEEKS now but yesterday’s rain was most helpful.

Also I’m thankful that in spite of the violent thunderstorm with big lightning it did NOT interfere with Angel Sammy’s wifi connection he uses at the RAINBOW BRIDGE,  allowing him to transmit to ME, his poem for this week.   I look forward to hearing from him every week and I hope you do too.    You know he keeps hoping more of you will give writing a poem to share a try – maybe you will feel like taking a whack at it this next week?   We’ll see if the photo he gives us for inspiration is one you can feel comfy writing a poem about????

Here’s his email from overnight………………..

♥♥♥

GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS FROM THE RAINBOW BRIDGE!

So glad the storm my little brother had around his house yesterday didn’t keep my email from arriving and grateful he didn’t lose power in his house.   It’s been so hot it would have been uncomfortable with all the heat and humidity if he hadn’t had his A/C.    I’m also grateful that up here at the Bridge we are comfortable ALL THE TIME!

Did you write a poem this week?   I try to find interesting photos for you to use as inspiration and I myself write one based on the photos I find.    It’s fun.   This is the photo I chose for all of us last week to use as inspiration for today.    How does the photo make you feel?  What do you SEE in the photo?   What can you write about that this photo inspires in you?

Here’s my poem based on the above photo………….

“River Queen”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell       July 18, 2018

Riverboat gamblers in a smoky room

Upright piano player playing a tune

Cigar smoke in layers in a room full of noise

Bartender asking “what will it be for you boys?”

Chorus girls dancing up on the stage

Winners are happy – while losers rage

All of that action in the riverboat saloon

Miss Flossie sitting on a stool singing a tune

Head out on deck for air in the still of the night

Takes your breath away watching the stars – oh what a sight

All the action inside with the yells and the songs

While the River Queen riverboat quietly glides along…………

That was a fun one……….I hope you had fun writing your poem this week.    If you did write one – just make sure and tell us you did in comments here with your link so we can go read it!   You can also write your poem IN our comments to share it.   If you didn’t write one – take a gander at the photo I’ve got for you for NEXT Thursday and see if you might be inspired to write one for NEXT Thursday when we get together again:

Oh I already have an idea what my poem will be titled – it hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw this photo!!   Inspiration is like that sometimes – it’s RIGHT THERE and you don’t even have to think about it.   Not always but sometimes.

I’ll look forward to seeing you all next week…….C’mon – join me in writing a poem.   You will enjoy it I promise!   Meanwhile, remember, all of us at the Rainbow Bridge whether we’ve been here an hour, a day or years love you and watch out for you 24/7.    We are always WITH YOU.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Teddy

Thanks Angel Sammy.     I loved this poem.    Of course I love all your poems but this one I think you might have had a bit of inspiration from Cat Scouts – am I right?   I know before I came along Cat Scouts took a trip to the Bayou in New Orleans and did a riverboat ride and stayed in a swamp one night where it was scary – mind if I show some of your old photos?   I still have your photo albums you know!    Everyone might enjoy seeing a couple.    Cat Scouts is TONS of fun and easy to join – if you’re a cat, you should visit and join up!

WOW……………….anyway, I can see where you got the idea for your poem and your photo this week.     Well, I guess it’s time to put a PERIOD at the end of this post and say thanks to everyone who played along with us on our Thoroughly Poetic Thursday.    Hope to see you next week……………..

Hugs, Teddy
