Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Standard

So….we meet again huh?

POETRYSAMBADGE

Hello poetry lovers and various and sundry other peeps and anipals who tune into my humble blog offerings every single day of the week.    Today is the day I devote to poetry AND my project to write a poem every Thursday beginning with consecutive letters of the alphabet………and today our poetic efforts are devoted to something starting with the letter:

K

What did I decide to write about?   Here it is……………..

“Kitchen”

By Sammy Kimmell, August 25, 2016

Our kitchen is a magical place

It’s where I go to stuff my face

Mom opens cans of magical food

I stand there and beg which I know is rude

I’m picky now that I am old

But I’m allowed (or so I’m told)

Mom adds some water to make it soupy

I like my food to be nice and goupy!

I lick and slurp and slurp some more

Sometimes I get some on the floor!

I come back again in a little while

When I eat – I make mom smile.

My appetite is pretty poor

But some days I’m hungry and ask for more.

The kitchen is where Mom and I seem to meet

So she can convince me I need to eat!

There you have it – my little offering for the letter “K” which for me is Kitchen…………..Mom cooks the bestest stuff there – and I always get to sample whatever is happening on the stove or in the oven.   I might not eat a whole can of food but I do eat what I FEEL like eating which can include an amazing variety of people food like deli meat (ham….roast beef….. YUM).    My vet says “get him to eat what you can”……………Mom is happy to do that!    See, I’ve lost a whole lot of weight.   I’m down to 8 pounds from 12.   That’s not all bad though as I have less difficulty walking now that I’m a “lightweight”.    Mom is always fixing something for me to entice me to chow down……and probably opens 2-3 cans of food every day hoping it will be “THE ONE” that I will eat.

What would I do without her?  I don’t wanna know………………and she says the SAME THING about me!

Happy Thursday!

Sam the Poet (and I know it)

Neato photo isn’t it?    It was taken at Little Round Top, Gettysburg PA, USA.      On July 2, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Union forces seized this high ground and held it throughout the remainder of the battle.    This photo was taken from inside the monument looking out over the site.    Here are two other shots Sarge sent in so you can see more………….

SHOPPINGAROUNDTHEWORLD

NOW, for PART TWO of today’s blog post………..why PART TWO?   Well, because it’s Bacon’s SHOPPING AROUND THE WORLD DAY!    And you know I try to post for that occasion even though it means “double blog” stuff on Wednesdays once a month.   Oh well………….this month’s challenge by Bacon is to post a recipe and ingredients for “ANYTHING WITH PASTA” !!   Well, we do love our pasta around here (not me of course but my Mom and Dad are pasta-holics for sure).    What I’m going to do is an old favorite which I think we MIGHT have actually blogged about on a previous “SHOPPING” but so what – some things should be repeated right?    This is one of Mom’s favorite QUICKIE recipes and my Dad insists she make it A LOT.    I’m OK with it because I always get a tiny bit of cooked hamburger!!

MOM’S HAMBURGER STROGANOFF

Ingredients:

1 lb. hamburger  (1 lb. Lean Ground Beef – $5.99)

Sour Cream (amount depends on your taste!)  (16 oz. $1.29)

Flat Pasta Noodles (1 bag egg noodles $1.95)

1 Can Cream of Mushroom Soup  ($.97)

2 cloves garlic chopped (or more if you’re a garlic-a-holic) (50 cents a clove!)

Brown the burger with the garlic…………….drain……….add cream of mushroom soup and as much sour cream as you like.   I probably put about half a container in – we LOVE sour cream and it mixes well with the soup…….also, you MIGHT need to add a little bit of milk to thin the “sauce” down to make it the consistency you like!!

Cook the noodles………………….add salt and pepper to taste for the sauce………and MAN OH MAN IS THIS DELICIOUS AND INEXPENSIVE!

There you have it!

A double blog – TWICE as much

Sammy as you thought you’d get!

Hugs, Sammy

Monsterizing Day and More

Standard

SURPRISE!!!

It’s my 16th Gotcha Day!

OK – the fact of the matter is that I don’t  celebrate my Gotcha Day every year…………..I’ve been here for so many years and have been so very happy and I do so many other “celebrations” all year long that my Gotcha just hasn’t been something I “crow” about.   However, I thought maybe since it’s been SIXTEEN years since I was adopted from the shelter, I would have just a little party.  No biggie – a few snackables and some cake – and share it with all of you – my good buddies and friends.     So – ready???

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

SEEE????  No big deal………just a little snack here and there – no fuss, no muss.  Before I turn it over to the Vacuum Cleaner (since today is housecleaning day here) I just want to thank you all for being part of my SIXTEENTH Gotcha Day celebration………..you’re the BESTEST BUDDIES EVER!

Telling All, Shopping and Dominating

Standard

HA!   That’s some title for my blog today isn’t it?   Wanna know why?   Well, it’s because today is a TRIPLE FUN day.   First, it’s Bacon and Fozziemum’s monthly Shopping Around the World blog hop day, and secondly, Summer is celebrating World Cat Domination Day and of course what would Wednesday be without my Teaser Tell All!   Triple fun today like I said yes?

Let’s start off with shopping shall we?

SHOPPINGAROUNDTHEWORLD

Our assignment this month was to price FIVE items from two different stores  to do a price comparison – and using those five items (at least  that many items but could be more) make a meal.   Recipe optional!    Mom decided to go to  two of the four grocery stores in our town – Harris Teeter and Giant to price her items.   What do these items make in the way of a recipe?   One of my Dad’s FAVES – hamburger stroganoff!   Ready?

Harris Teeter (HT)  Giant (G)

1 lb. hamburger

SHOPPING1

HT = $4.99 (80% Angus Lean Ground Chuck)

G= $5.99 (90% Lean Ground Chuck)

Sour Cream

SHOPPING2

HT = 8 0z. $1.79

G = 8 oz. $1.69

Can of Cream of Mushroom Soup

SHOPPING5

HT= 10.5 oz. $.97

G = 10.5 oz. $.97

Flat Noodles

SHOPPING4

HT = Muellers Hearty Extra Wide 8 0z.  $1.79

G = Muellers Hearty Extra Wide 8 oz. $1.79

Onions

SHOPPING3

HT = One Vidalia onion $.37

G = One Vidalia onion $.37

SO – the prices were very comparable………they would need to be – these stores are a block away from each other and competition is fierce.   Anyway, these ingredients plus a few other “accompaniments” make excellent (and easy peasy) HAMBURGER STROGANOFF!

Brown the burger with some chopped onions (as much as you like) and if you want to add a clove of crushed garlic that makes it even better (optional!).   Meanwhile, boil the noodles and drain.   Add one can of Cream of Mushroom Soup to the cooked hamburger…….then as much sour cream as you want to add (Mom adds about half a container) – mix well and add a tiny bit of milk to make it the consistency you like.  We like ours kind of “thick” (sticks to the noodles better!!).    Serve the “stroganoff” over the noodles and VOILA – excellent dinner.   Add salt and pepper to taste!

That was fun this month – well, it’s ALWAYS fun now isn’t it?  You should pawticipate if you don’t already…………you can see the other posts by visiting BACON HERE !!

NEXT ITEM OF BUSINESS TODAY WILL BE THE TEASER TELL ALL!!!!!

Yesterday’s photo was a Guest Teaser…………..and I honestly thought there was a good chance that NOBODY would guess it but I was OH SO WRONG!    First things first – here’s the photo:

TeaserJune23-2015

Who was my Guest Teaser?  Why it was my buddy Flynn’s Mom Miss Jackie!   She sent me this photo which had NOT been published on her blog and which she’d looked at closely for “hints” so we thought it was going to fool everyone – especially with a Burger King right there!   Thank you Miss Jackie and Flynn………..this is for you!

Thanks Jackie and Flynn!

Thanks Jackie and Flynn!

The photo was taken on the street in STAVENGER, NORWAY………………Burger Kings are everywhere apparently!

Who was my FIRST COMMENTER?  Well, it just happened to be the same friend who was the FIRST RIGHT GUESSER……………..I absolutely cannot believe that this blogger has such an uncanny  ability to know where photos were taken – ones that aren’t on the internet to google and find – just knowing some landmarks or having traveled (or read up ahead of Teaser Tuesday) and he is the AMAZING EASY!   These awards are BOTH for you my geography whiz kid buddy!

TEASERBADGE2015-4

TEASERBADGE2015-1

Others who guessed it right?  Yes there were some………and you all get this:

TEASERBADGE2015-2

Then of course we have the friends who absolutely are GREEEN with envy………..or are using these to paper the walls of their homes from top to bottom  as GREEEEEN wallpaper!   This is for all of you!

TEASERBADGE2015-3

WOW……………. amazing huh?   Keep on trying everyone – one of these days Easy will be out on a walk when the Teaser goes live and won’t be first.   HAHAHAHAHA

WORLD CAT DOMINATION DAY

This day was started by Angel Sparkle – Summer’s sister, at Sparkle Cat.   We’re celebrating the fact that we rule our homes – something those of us who have been around a while know to be TOTALLY true!    Summer is having a special celebration of the day on HER blog so be sure to visit.   It began on Sparkle’s birthday so that makes it SUPER special for Summer to be hosting the event!   If you click the badge below, you’ll visit Sparkle’s special blog for today…………..

CatWorldDomination2015-250

CATS RULE………we know this!   All I have to do to remind Mom of that is hop up on her lap and keep her occupied while I snore and snooze away and keep her TRAPPED there even though the phone may ring, or someone may knock on the front door, or heaven forbid, she has to visit the bathroom (tee hee) – because she will NOT disturb me.   She will sit there until she explodes before she’ll push me off her lap………now if that isn’t domination I don’t know what is!    HAHAHAHA

Sleeping.........AGAIN!

So – enjoy  today – it’s a BUSY one isn’t it?

HUGS,

SAMMY

A little P.S.   I’m following a new blog with two ADORABLE little girl kitties – you might enjoy visiting them too??!  Their blog yesterday  had a link to that video that’s been “seen around the world” with the kitty who ACCIDENTALLY had a ride in an ultralite airplane in France!!!!

I Love Shopping!

Standard

Oh it’s another of my favorite days to blog – Bacon and Fozziemum’s “Shopping Around the World” where we all go shopping and  compare prices on a specified list of “THINGS” !!!    It’s so  cool to see what the differences in prices are  around the world since bloggers are EVERYWHERE and so many pawticipate in this fun event………… so “on with the show” !

SHOPPINGAROUNDTHEWORLD

Here’s what we were supposed to shop for this month AND I’ll post what I experienced while shopping:

  1. Seasons are changing – what do you pay for HVAC this time of year  AND what temperature do you keep your thermostat set on?    WELL, this one is easy – right now we are in a funny “early Spring” transitional phase.  We aren’t using HVAC at all – we either have windows open or closed to take advantage of Mom Nature’s beautiful early Spring weather.  Most of our days are in the high 60s/low 70s and our nights are in the 40s and 50s.  If we DO turn on the heat  on a rainy/damp/colder day, we set the thermostat at 70.   If we have to turn on the A/C on a hottish kind of day, we keep it at 70.   So this time of year we’re not paying enough to even MENTION because we just rarely need either heat or A/C!
  2. Favorite Meat:   My Mom has 1,001 ways to make stuff from ground beef
1 lb. 93% lean round beef $5.99

1 lb. 93% lean round beef $5.99

3.  Favorite Vegetable:   How about potatoes?   My parents ONLY buy Yukon Gold potatoes………….

5 lb. bag $4.99

5 lb. bag $4.99

4.   Random Item:    Our random item this month is fresh corn on the cob – another fave for a cookout…..

Fifty cents each

Fifty cents each

5.   Homemade Dish including Ingredient Prices:     Mom’s favorite “quick to make” dessert is blueberry cobbler (EASY PEASY)

Ingredients:    Butter (  16. oz. Lake O Lakes butter is $4.85)

Bisquick  ( 20 oz. box $2.79)

Sugar (2 lb. bag $1.89)

Milk (32 oz. 2% milkfat milk is $1.79)

Blueberries (6 oz. pkg. fresh blueberries $2.99)

Quickie Blueberry Cobbler

Quickie Blueberry Cobbler

Recipe (just in case your mouth is watering and you must have this cobbler immediately):

6 tablespoons melted butter

1-1/4 cup Bisquick

1/2 cup sugar

2/3 cup milk

3 cups blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 – pour melted butter into 8 or 9 inch square baking dish.   In bowl whisk Bisquick, sugar and milk and pour over the butter.  Sprinkle the blueberries over the top.  Bake 2-47 minutes until golden brown and serve warm (preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!).

Now – excuse me while I go see what the REST of you have done with your “Shopping Round the World” posts today!!!!!!!

Hugs, Sammy
