Resting Up For Next Weekend

Standard
A Post-Breakfast Nap on the Couch

On a Sunday afternoon SOMEONE needs to stretch out on the couch - since Dad's not interested, I guess it will have to be ME!

Ahhhh…..Sunday…….I figure I’ll need all this week to rest up for NEXT weekend – why?  Well, as you know, I’m a football fan and I do believe it’s time for the SUPER BOWL.  No, that’s not what we call my food dish around here – it’s the big wazoo of football games.  No doubt it will be noisy around here with Mom screaming, Dad screaming at Mom for screaming, and me – well – I’ll be on a footstool watching the game – quietly following that little round thing as it flies through the air or gets kicked somewhere.  It’s so exciting.  All those little tiny people running every which way in all directions – it’s just so much fun to watch.

So that’s why I’m taking this opportunity to relax……I’ve been outside several times today – it’s been sunny but chilly – and OLD DAD is about to start a fire in the fireplace.  So it’s a perfect late afternoon to do what we ALL know I do best…………snooze.  The couch is my chosen spot just now – mainly because Mom’s in her studio working on some stuff to get ready for a BIG book fair/signing/event that she’s going to in February.  I’ll do a special blog this week all about that but it means she’s going to be leaving me ALL ALONE WITH DAD for a few days.  I can sum up my feeling about that in one word:

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKK !

Just kidding Pop…..actually it will be a good time for some good old-fashioned male bonding.   I guess.

Happy Monday All!

Where’s My Hot Water Bottle??

Standard
Sam Keeping Warm in a Blanket

This is OK but I prefer having Mom's legs as my own personal hot water bottle......

It’s all fine and dandy to go outside pre-dawn with Mom for a walk but it was beyond cold out there this morning.  Brrrrr……so of course when we got back inside, Mom fixed some hot chocolate for herself and while she was doing that, she wrapped me up like a little sausage (pig in a blanket??) on her recliner so I could get warmed up.

I look good enough to eat – right?  Well, maybe not but there’s one thing for sure……..I look cozy.

Here’s the thing though……while I’m certainly warm on TOP of me, I’m not warm NEXT to me or UNDER me.  That takes one very important ingredient which was missing while Mom made her hot chocolate.  Her LEGS!  My own personal hot water bottle!

You’ve seen enough pictures of me on Mom’s lap or legs to know that’s my favorite spot – especially on a chilly day.  She’s my Mom and I love her dearly but she’s also my source of WARMTH….she’s my cozy spot.  I’d probably sit on Dad’s lap too but he’s too squirmy for me.  Mom can sit still with me on her legs for HOURS while she reads or watches a movie or something…..and I stay nice and warm and toasty.  A guy learns these things from kittenhood you know – where the best place in the world is to take a snooze.  Yeah, sure – the sunny spots are fine, the window perches are great, Mom and Dad’s bed is nice and soft and yummy, even the front porch on a warm summer morning is grand but – quite honestly – the BEST place is with Mommy the Human Hot Water Bottle!!!

Oh goodie – here she comes – she’s about to read the Sunday paper…..that means she’ll be here for a while…..I can relax…..I can snooze….zzzzzzz

Happy Sunday Morning Peeps!

Sam’s Morning Routine

Standard
Sam Taking a Snooze on Mom's Bed

Had my breakfast,,,,now I wait for Mom to get out of the shower....then my day REALLY begins!!

Creature of habit?  Yeah, I guess I am.  Every morning for almost as long as I’ve lived here, I start my day off the SAME way.  Mom comes downstairs and I’m usually asleep on my window seat or I’m on the back of the couch looking out the big window watching for – whatever!   I get my first cuddle of the day, follow her into the kitchen and wait patiently or not so patiently (!) for my breakfast bowl to land on my eating mat.  Then of course the fresh bowl of water and while I eat, Mom gets the morning news.  I finish eating and pop up on her lap for my FIRST brush du jour (that’s fancy talk for “of the day”…!!) THEN Daddy eventually arrives downstairs after rousting himself out of bed and Mom and I head back upstairs.

I help Mom make the bed (although she doesn’t seem to get that when I’m up on the unmade bed hiding under the sheets and flying around from pillow to pillow I’m “helping”) – and then she heads in to take her shower.  That’s my cue to do JUST what I’m doing in this photo…………have my first really good snooze of the day.

See, I don’t sleep at night.  After all, my job is to protect my family from intruders – invaders of our castle – uninvited company – things that go BUMP in the night……so I can’t hardly do that while sleeping now can I?????  So, I go from window to window, door to door, on all three floors of the house and patrol.  So by morning, when my parents can take over the awesome duty of “guardians of the castle” I’m exhausted.  Ready to relax and sleep.  If not in Mom’s lap, then on her bed.

I just curl up my paws, close my golden eyes, let out a BIG sigh, and relax….. it’s not easy being in charge of this family but I take my job very seriously!!!

Happy Tuesday

Taking A Bath Break….

Sam doing a bit of grooming!

Hey...it's not easy keeping this chest hair clean and combed!

I’ve been SO busy with Christmas preparation and all that excitement that today I realized it had been a while since I did some intensive grooming.  I had finished all the “easily accessible” parts of my magnificent ginger self when I remembered “Don’t Forget The Chest Hair” – one of the tougher places to groom.  Mom caught me in this photo “mid-tongue-comb” but surely you can tell from the picture that I did a great job getting myself fluffed up for the holiday!

I groom myself a lot actually.   I’ve always enjoyed keeping my white parts white and my ginger parts shiny.  I’m quite particular.   I also let her know it’s time to trim my nails by biting them myself so she and Dad (he has to hold me while she trims) take care of that – including my extra toes!

I also want to say that a couple of days ago my Mom’s friend Dianna from http://thesedaysofmine.com/ awarded my blog the “7X7 Award” and I’m ever so excited!  Mom is having to do some research with my blogs in order to try and comply with the rules of acceptance SO, look for that tomorrow OK?  Meanwhile, I’ve added the extra “bling” (ok…..award) logo to my front page.  I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky aren’t I?

Burp….Oh! Excuse Me!

Sam enjoying the front porch on a pretty fall day

Fresh air.....after all that food yesterday, it's nice to get away from the turkey and just BREATHE.

You know what?  I really am NOT a guy who has ever even tried having a chunk of chicken or turkey but when Mom and Dad brought home some leftovers from my Auntie Joan and Uncle Bruce’s cabin – I just HAD to try some.  I’m glad I did.  While I didn’t eat a LOT, I did find the taste of cooked birdie quite delicious!   All these years Mom would give me some scraps when she made a turkey or chicken dinner and I’d just look at her like “HUH????”.  Now I “get” it.  Or maybe it’s an acquired taste…..now that my tastebuds have matured, I can appreciate some of the human delicacies I’ve ignored in the past.

Whatever……………that turkey was good.

Now I feel like I just want to get a little exercise (little being the operative word) and some fresh air.  Today is supposed to be a beautiful day.  Good day for porch sitting, sidewalk cruising, and probably a few burps since this turkey thing is new to me and my body.

I do hope that all of you who celebrate Thanksgiving had a good time eating, visiting friends and family, eating, putting leftovers in the refrigerator, eating, thinking up recipes for leftover turkey, eating, and eating some more.  I’m sure more goodies will be coming my way – they came home with lots of leftovers.  Wonder if I can learn to love cranberry sauce???

Happy Day After
