Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Friday means THANKFULS and Poetry.   Always first are our THANKFULS – a big thanks to Brian for hosting this Hop every Thursday giving us a chance to voice what we’re thankful for.    We combine that activity with Angel Sammy’s Poetry Challenge.    I’m truly thankful for all the blessings that I and my family have – our health, a pretty and safe home, and each other.    There are a million things we’re all thankful for – many of those things are “second nature” and we don’t give that much thought to them – they’re just part of our lives but they ARE things we should be thankful for.

I’m also thankful that my Angel brother Sammy continues to send messages to us once a week through his Poetry Thursday post.   He transmits it to me via his laptop (yes they have great internet at the Rainbow Bridge) and I post it for him and for you!

Hi Friends!  It’s Time For Poetry………..

Hello again……….every Thursday here I am challenging you to write a poem – a poem that’s based on what your thoughts are of a photograph that I give you on Thursdays and you have a whole week to think about your poem.   We share our poems the Thursday after you get a photo so you have a WHOLE WEEK to write.

Here’s the photo I gave you LAST Thursday to use for today……………following it is my own poem for the photo:

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell  ©June 29, 2022

Floating along on light currents of air

Peaceful and quiet without a care

The sunset amazing – my heart skips a beat

Admiring the view of this world oh so sweet

The feeling of freedom and flight like a bird

It’s ever so magical – better than I’d heard

This incredible moment I’ll never forget

As my smile gets bigger as the sun begins to set…….

You may remember my final day on Earth before leaving for the Bridge – I did a balloon trip to visit all my friends.   Nobody really knew it was my last day – I didn’t tell many – I wanted it to be a happy day full of special memories and indeed it was.    I know lots of people who have taken balloon rides and said even if they thought they’d be scared, that all melted away when they saw things from a different perspective up in the balloon.     Anyway, when I saw this photo I thought we’d all enjoy a magical trip through the air when we wrote our poem for this week.

Here’s your photo for NEXT Thursday.

Mom says this brings back a lot of memories – no that’s not her – it’s just memory of this type of place where she’d go with her boyfriend on a date (whatever that is!).

SO, that’s our poetic fun for this week – hope to see you here next week.   If you wrote a poem for the balloon ride – please tell us in my comments that you wrote one and give us your link so we can read it!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Hugs and Light, Angel Sammy

So sweet to see you Angel Sammy……I look forward to this EVERY SINGLE WEEK!    I’m so happy you are my guiding angel brother…………..

  1. It must be amazing going up in a hot air balloon, but there is o way I could do it!
I remember those stripey plastic beakers. I have been trying to remember what they were made of. I think it was melamine?

    • Angel Sammy leaving us forever on the day of the balloon trip was one of the most amazing days ever. The sadness of saying goodbye to him balanced out the beautiful posts everyone did as he visited all his friends. That day was BEARABLE because of the balloon trip.

      Hugs, Pam

  3. We sure do remember that day of ballooning all around the world! Love your poem…in some ways its similar to mine…but yours is for sure more eloquent!

Today starts the Battle Creek Field of Flight, which includes a Balloon festival of today the 30th till July Fourth…with incoming and outgoing launches, carnival rides , there’s balloons lit up in the dark, (Balloon illume), and other stuff such as an airshow with this year featuring the Thunderbirds, and two fireworks shows. Alas it is my turn to work the whole 3 day holiday weekend, so I’ll only hear the goings on and maybe see a flyover or two…the fireworks will be over when I get out of my work…oh well, I have seen it many times over the years!! I shall rely on my memories!
    Here’s my poem:

    Floating High
    Gliding by
    The heater
    Fills up the ‘balloon’
    So it goes higher…
    even more than a kilometer!
    Look! A goose
    He flies while we sail
Silent as birds on the wing.
    Balloons are beautiful
    Their gondolas swing
    And sway in the breeze
    While they glide with ease
    Over the lands below
You can see the sun’s glow
Or the peeps on the ground
Waving while you don’t make a sound.

    When the winds are right
and the goal is in sight
    The whoosh is less
    And the envelope shrinks
to let us gently down…on the grass
    Pop, the champagne drinks
    Are opened and downed,
    For we competed and landed
    correctly on the ground.

Sometimes in the past, a balloon or two would land in the field across the street from our house, and after they were all packed back up, the balloonist would give a bottle of champagne to the owners of said field. I think it’s a tradition, because those balloons have a mind of their own when it comes to landing in a specific spot. It’s a wonder more don’t get stuck in the trees or wires.

    • Cecilia I know Angel Sammy will love reading your comment….he STILL talks about that day – it was a very sad day but a fun day in that all those friends of his made the trip wonderfully exciting for all of us.

      Hugs, Pam xxoo

    • We will make sure that Angel Sammy gives a big huge hello to all those who are with him in that happy place at the Bridge……meanwhile grab your earplugs and hang on right for all the noise coming on the 4th!

  7. Teddy, you poem is perfect. Our mom has always wanted to take a hot air balloon ride. When she was writing our poem, she was remembering Sammy’s balloon ride as well as Stinky & Periwinkle’s balloon trip. Here’s the link to her poem which includes Coop and Tyebe.

    • We really loved your poem – and remember Stinky and Periwinkle’s balloon trip too. My Mom says she still has dreams about Sammy heading to the Bridge in a balloon… was a beautiful day when he left in many ways even if it was also the worst day ever.

      Love, Teddy

  8. That poem is so beautiful, sweet Angel Sammy, it feels like we’re floating with it also. That must have been very hard to write for your mom, that last day, but ballons always come back to the ground, just like you, sweet Angel, unseen but always near✨ I’ve made a poem too, here’s the linky Pawkisses for a wonderful Weekend to all of you, Teddy🐾😽💞

    • Dearest Binky……your poem was really quite magical – it was the same feeling as floating with wings….and I guess one day we all will give that a try!! We love your whole post today – beautiful photos of you enjoying a rest on the chair outside – and we hope your weekend is SWEET just like you are!

      Hugs, Teddy xxoo
