Thursday means THANKFULS……..and after we are thankful we move on to part two which is POETRY with Angel Sammy. As far as “thankfuls” go we have lots of things to be thankful for. Two days of gorgeous weather (ending tonight with storms) has been wonderful. A reminder of just how gorgeous Virginia is in the Spring if it TRIES hard enough! We will have a day in the 90s before the week is out though. All of us are healthy – another HUGE blessing. We continue to be thankful that Brian hosts this chance for all of us to mention what we are thankful for. Then of course we are blessed with hearing from Angel Sammy every single Thursday with his poem challenge. Here’s his note that he sent from the Rainbow Bridge last night.

Welcome to Poetry Day!
Hi everyone. Time to share some poetry. Did you write one this week? I gave you a very hairy photograph (haha) last week to use for today’s poem. Should be interesting to reach everybody’s poetry today. I try to find photos for you that might CHALLENGE you a bit. This one sure challenged me!
Here’s the photo I gave you last Thursday to write a poem for sharing today.

“Time For A Trim?”

In Victorian times hair was really quite “IN”
Didn’t even matter if it was thick or thin!
Didn’t matter if it was curly or straight
Didn’t matter if it was HALF a woman’s weight!
The long the better and that’s no lie
Imagine all the time it took for a wash and dry!
Alright – I know I got a little silly with this one but it was fun. The website we gave you has lots of photos of women with “never ever cut” hair…………and it’s just interesting that it was a fashion trend. As they mention, because times were hard for many people women would often cut their hair and sell it so not EVERYONE had floor-length or longer hair!
Now for next week I have a great photo for us to work with. At least I think it is! AND if you wrote a poem this week for our “long hair” photo, please tell us in comments and give us your link so we can read your work…………OK? OK!
Isn’t this a hoot? So cute. I feel a fun poem coming for this one!
So let’s get together next Thursday and share poems again shall we? You have a whole week to work on a poem. Until then, stay happy and healthy and don’t think for one second that you can’t write a poem because YOU CAN!

I cannot even make it without getting my haircut when it gets almost shoulder length. Great poem. I will say Happy Thursday early as I got your second email. The next photo looks fun. I think all of little girls did that. Have a nice day.

That hair is Mom’s worst nightmare. She is so used to the pixie cut that gets a trim every 4 weeks! That hair looks like a LOT of work!

LOL, I looked at my calendar and thought I published Wordless Wednesdays on Thursday!! Super funny. I think the long hair was very hard to take care of. That is just crazy long! 💇🏻♀️

Hi Mimi! We had rain last night so today will be another wet day BUT all the rain has made for an incredibly “lush” landscape. As for the photo – couldn’t resist using it for the challenge this week. As someone who has always HATED her thin and straggly hair, I used to think I wanted hair like this but realize what a pain in the neck it would be to care for it! I’ll stick with short and thin thank you very much!! Looking forward to seeing your poem – you write GREAT ones!

That was a great poem for the long-haired ladies Mimi……..so many people found it hard to imagine having that much hair…….as my hair has thinned and become even more fine than it always has been I find it so amazing that many ladies could grow it that long! I wonder if they ever stepped on it!!! LOL

Oh My Hair
Our hair’s Like a curtain.
Long, wavy and heavy;
That is for certain!
We could trip over our hair,
or hang it over the back –
of our arm chair.
Our very long tresses
Are as warm winter dresses
a nightmare to brush
Washing takes hours…
Drying even more.
This hair of ours
Is no fun!
We grew it long
To please our peeps…
But we’re not Rapunzel.
That would be wrong.
Now we’re in the circus
So all can gawk…
At our super long tresses.
Then we hear them talk
About that record book of Guiness!

Brilliant poem Ingrid! I love it……hilarious but RIGHT ON at the same time. It’s just difficult to imagine having all that hair but I suppose for the most part it just got wound around and around or braided and kept up but taking it DOWN to wash/dry – EEEEEEEK! No thanks!

Great poem, Angel Sammy. I used to have hair past my waist and it was very thick and a nightmare to dry. I can’t begin to imagine how they dried that lot! I still have very thick hair, but it is also very short now!
Ivor’s auntie for as long as I can remember always had white hair up in a bun. She would never tell her age but must have been at least 50 years older than us so born around the turn of the century. One day we visited and she had washed her hair and we were amazed to see it came down to her knees! That was the one and only time we saw her without it in a bun.

WOW…..white hair that long must have been quite a sight on Ivor’s Auntie. I only had long-ish hair once in my life – in the late 60s/early 70s. It was probably four inches below my shoulders. My hair has always been quite thin and wispy so long hair really was not for me. These days I’m just happy to have ANY hair!!!! LOL This was an interesting photo AND back story too – the photos really blew me away!

Perfect poem for a hairy photo! I really think these ladies just went with the trend – not that they liked having pounds of hair to deal with but after all – (1) men liked it and (2) everyone else had the same thing! I’m happy with short and sassy myself. LOL Thanks for playing poetry with us!

Jiminey! I can’t imagine having hair like that! I would never WANT hair like that. You can tell they always had it braided. The heaviness and pain of that must have been awful. BUT the one upcomong…oh my gosh, those romper pants that baby is wearing– and this fat wads (that what I always called them on my kids arms and legs) are enchanting. Kissable!!!

Oh that hair is SCARY. Yes as you say it’s obvious they braided it and wound it around and around and around again unless they took it down for washing (which was definitely a PROJECT!). The link we gave has more photos and they’re all – well – hideous! Love next week’s photo – found it too adorable to pass up!!!!!!

I love your poem, Angel Sammy, and I think Granny thinks she’s still in those days as her hair comes almost to her knees…MOL…She doesn’t has any trouble to comb, wash nor dry her hair, as she is used to it since she was a child 😺Here’s our contribution for the poem, we had trouble to put up our bloggie, so when it says trashed, well it isn’t 😉
