Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday everyone – time for us to talk about things we are thankful for with our host for this Hop – Brian.    If you’d like to hook up to his Hop – click the badge above and link up with us.

I must say I’m super thankful for the absolutely beautiful Fall weather we’ve having.   I have had so much fun playing in the leaves and lying in the leaves hiding – Mom and Dad say I’m acting like a kitten (a big kitten).    We had temps in the 30s last week and this week in the 60s.   We know it won’t last but we’re sure enjoying it while we can.   I always say that I’m thankful that all of us in my house are healthy and we are.

Today is Veterans Day and Mom, Dad and I are all thankful for all those who have served their country including my Grandpa – my Mom’s Dad, Ferol William Johnson.

I’m also thankful that Angel Sammy sent us his Poetry for this week – I’m sharing it below!    Remember, anyone can join in the poetic fun.    He gives us a photo and we write a poem about it AND we have a whole week to write it!    Here’s this week’s email from him at the Rainbow Bridge.

♥♥♥

So – we meet again!

Nice to share a little of time with you every week.    Remember, everyone is welcome to join in the fun.    Just write a poem that is inspired by the photo I give you every week.   Then the following Thursday tell us you wrote a poem – give us your link and we will visit you to read your poem!!

Here’s the photo that I gave you last week to use for today’s poetry get-together – I get COLD just looking at it………..I thought it might inspire some interesting poetry and my poem is below the photo.

“Frosty Getaway”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      ©November 10, 2021

Our cabin in the mountains is a quiet retreat

A respite from busy life and noisy streets

We have fires in the fireplace and keep quite cozy

Skiing and hiking in the snow keeps our cheeks quite rosy!

When it snows a lot the trees are heavy with snow

If the wind shakes the trees LOOK OUT BELOW!

It was the first thing I thought of when I saw this photo…………those trees DWARF that little cabin and hold a lot of snow.    While this scene is rather idyllic I would NOT want to be trapped in that tiny little cabin with FEET and FEET of snow that had fallen from those huge trees blocking my way!    I’m guessing this might be a photo shopped picture anyway.    But it sure makes you think about how you’d handle having every door and window blocked with FEET of snow…….EEEK!

So remember to tell us if you wrote a poem in our comments – we would love to read it.

Here’s your photo for NEXT Thursday’s poem.    You have a week to work on it – then post it next Thursday on your blog and tell us you wrote one so we can read it.

Love this…………….I think maybe I’ve given you a similar photo before but this is too cute to pass up!!!    I’m sure you can come up with something in a poem for this.

HAVE FUN coming up with a poem and I’ll see you next Thursday………..it’s a date!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Heavenly Hugs, Angel Sammy

So wonderful to hear from you Angel Sammy……..please don’t EVER stop visiting us!

Love, Teddy

  1. Well, I have been busy with all kinds of this and that…and totally forgot about this being Poetry Day…and also Remembrance Day…that is how II still think of it, being from Canada. The vets who are able bodied volunteer and stand at store entrances and have poppies you can pin on; for whatever you wish to donate. It goes to help veterans in need. I have many of them lined up along one doorway here, don’t know why I have saved them all, but now that there are so many, its kind of a collection to help me be thankful for all veterans, no matter what country they are from.

We have a wall of honor where I work, with large pictures and a plaque, honoring vets we have served, both past and present.

My second job, long before I came to the USA was caring for veterans, it was a Canadian equivalent of a VA Hospital. They sure had many stories to tell and talk about…I really enjoyed and have many fond memories of that job.

Here is a poem I composed about snow in 1973! Yup, 48 years ago! OMC!

    Snow

    Snow is gently falling,
    Snow is softly piling.
    It falls; makes no sound,
    While covering the ground.

    Snow – like the tide
    Covers and will hide-
The earth; there wet, here cold-
All things in its icy hold.

    Snow caps the bushes,
    While rustling grass hushes.
As it piles up so high,
    After falling from the sky.

    Snow is like a quilt,
    Every space is filled.
    Nothing is left bare,
    All is covered – everywhere.

    Snow is falling gently,
    Snow is piling softly.
    Only the wind is noisy.
But we here – are cozy!

  2. That snow scene. I am so glad I’m not there! Whoa!

Your Dad was very very handsome. Truly. Thank goodness for our brave Vets and present day soldiers too. I will have to look for one of Dad while he was in the Army.

  4. I am thankful for our veterans too, Teddy. Like your mom’s dad. They are true heroes! And I’m also thankful that we haven’t gotten any snow yet. But they say we might get some flurries this weekend. Hiss! ~Ernie

  5. None of us would want to be in that cabin…that is a ridiculous amount of snow. Here’s the link to Mom’s short poem. https://thecatonmyhead.com/veterans-day-thankfuls-poem-farewell/
Next week’s photo looks like so much fun. We actually got up to 79 degrees one day this week. That’s just crazy, but we loved it. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, angel Mauricio, Misty May, angel Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Sawyer & Kizmet
