SPARK on Labor Day

Standard

It’s Labor Day Monday…………….and while that is GARFIELD at the top of the page it could be Teddy – he looks a lot like Garfield.    He and I both wish all of you a restful Labor Day.    We also have a SPARK to share with you.    Monday is SPARK day in addition this week to being a holiday.    Still, it is the first day of a new week!    Good time to start off with something to really THINK about right?   “SPARKS” was started by Annie McGuffy of McGuffy’s Reader but ended when her blog was hacked some time ago.  It was meant to be a way to start out each week with with a meaningful thought – something that spoke to each of us and hopefully everyone else who read it.    Sometimes we need a little “spark” in our lives and these posts were meant to at least be a PART of that effort.   Please feel free to post a SPARK of your own on your blog and let everyone know you have…….we get energy from each other that way!

My SPARK today is relative to it being Labor Day…………..and I really like this SPARK………….

I like it because it’s totally true.   I was taught to work hard for whoever I was working for.    EARN my salary.    I really feel like I did my best all through my working days.    I had many jobs in many places and I always tried my best.    I learned that sometimes even though I had done the work, someone else took the credit but it didn’t bother me that much because I KNEW I HAD DONE THE JOB I WAS ASKED TO DO……I had put in the time and effort…..so I just learned to enjoy knowing I’d DONE what was asked of me.     Yes it’s frustrating sometimes.    I also had a like number of times where my hard work was acknowledged and everyone knew it was ME who had done it.    There was a balance.

So, please enjoy your Labor Day……………..you worked hard for it……………!!

Hugs, Pam

  1. For sure…its the 80%/20% rule of life in the school of hard knocks.
But those who did the work can take pride in the fact that without them it wouldn’t have gotten done at all, no matter who gets/got the credit.

And I will be spending Labor Day…laboring at my work…health care takes no holidays…and I will have the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference for those I helped.

    • You make a HUGE difference for all of those people you care for….you are their only ray of sunshine sometimes – their “can’t wait for tomorrow so we can see that smile” girl! Thanks to you for all you do Ingrid – seriously!!

  2. Well, lovely Labor Day words. Mama tends to jump in wherever she sees a problem because she loves problem-solving, but remember, too, that sometimes what looks like work to be done, ie solutions, is best addressed with an “Oh, you poor thing. I understand.” Haha, this may be off the point but you get mama’s drift. And acknowledgement is overrated for sure. I know my kitty work is appreciated every minute of every day.

    • I have had things I have written (procedures) taken from me and I was frankly told “Put my name on it”. Hard to play the so-called game sometimes.

    • I have to as well. This is really Katie Isabella on Blogspot, but I have to use a now defunct Word Press account I used to write, to comment here and on two others.

  3. That quote certainly rings true. Sadly, the work ethic that our country was built on doesn’t seem to apply to many of the Americans these days. I’ve heard it said: “what will happen when there are more people riding in the wagon than there are pulling the wagon?”. Something to think about!

  4. There is no relaxing on Labor Day if one has cats. They are demanding and do not understand the word, “no!” Bet Teddy will be asking to go out several times today. I do like your Spark very much. Thanks. Love to all, J.

  5. FAB SPARK!!! I too worked my heart out~~5 years in Tow Truck industry (1st woman in Province); then spent 4 years as a Professional Nanny (sans umbrella). I’d have up to 10 children to care for…neighborhood kidlets would come to house where my 2 charges were & we’d have games & a little pool set up in backyard. Wrangling 10 kidlets is alot like ‘herding cats’. And then I went into Nursing: Home Care & Specialized Care for Para/Quadriplegics for 7 years. And then back to College to get my Diploma. And di spend 8 years Counselling troubled youth & helping married couples.
Very happy to be ‘retired as such. Just wish my health were better 😉
