Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Here we go again on a THANKFUL THURSDAY sharing all the things we are thankful for this past week…………..if you’d like to join in this Hop – click Brian’s badge above and LINK UP to share.   Thanks so much Brian for hosting this wonderful chance for all of us to focus on the positive and the many things we have to be THANKFUL for in our lives.

It’s also Poetic Thursday which is Angel Sammy’s day to share a poem with us AND to give us a poetic challenge for next week in the form of a photo to inspire our poems!

I continue to be very thankful that Sawyer who was missing for almost a month is home again.   In fact there’s a party for him today at the Tabby Cat Club (calling all tabbies – if you’re not a member of the TCC – why not???).

I’m also thankful that today is a less humid day than the past few – we can all breathe better today – it may be HOT but it’s not humid.  YAY!!!!!

Let’s see what Angel Sammy wrote in his email to me last night shall we???

♥♥♥

Hi Poetic Friends!

It’s Thursday and you know what that means…………..time to share your poems.  You know – the ones that you wrote during this past week that were inspired by the photo I gave you when we last met (last Thursday).    We use photos to give us ideas for the subject of our poems then share them RIGHT HERE every Thursday.    If you wrote a poem for the photo last week – let us know in comments.    We want to read it!

Here’s the photo I gave you to inspire TODAY’s poems from you and me…………..after the photo is MY contribution to Poetry Day today!

“So Many Books….So Little Time”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell    ©July 28, 2021

Just imagine how many ideas are in these pages

Wisdom and entertainment passed down through the ages

Endless knowledge and inspiration is yours for the reading

The excitement of learning sets all hearts beating

Libraries are storehouses of every kind of book

You can use your imagination as you wander and look

So much to see in the shelves full of treasures

The enjoyment of reading brings infinite pleasure.

My Mom says she remembers as a little girl her favorite day of the week was when her Mom would take her and her brother to the library.   They could sit in the childrens room and look through all kinds of books while their Mom could peruse the shelves without having a kid tugging on her skirt to ask when they were leaving – because Mom and her brother LOVED being there.    They would stay all day if they’d been able to.    Mom’s love of books and reading took her to places she never dreamed – like writing her own mystery novel and childrens books later in her life.    Libraries are full of infinite possibilities for humans (and come to think of it, we cats have fun in old libraries keeping the mouse population down!!).

SO – ready for your photo for NEXT week’s poetic inspiration?????   Here it is and you have a whole week to write a poem based on your thoughts about this photo:

Looks like an accident waiting to happen.   HAHAHA    Seriously – this one will be fun don’t you think?    We’ll find out what you think and what you say NEXT week when we meet right here to TALK POETRY.   Meanwhile, take care of yourselves…………remember you have Angels at the Rainbow Bridge watching out for you!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Angel Hugs,

Angel Sammy

♥♥♥

Loved the poem Angel Sammy – Mom still has tons of books in her own library so I guess “once a book lover, always a book lover” !!    See you next week!

Love, Teddy

  1. Oh, MY!! Talk about great minds thinking alike…About an hour ago, II penned this on a scrap of paper, and it starts the same as your title!!

    Library

    So many books
    So little time.
    Search for books
    Maybe on crime.
    Climb the stairs,
    Seek another tome-
    Wait!
    That didn’t rhyme!
    Don’t get lost,
    This place is vast.
    You could hide
    But I shall confide…
    I wonder the cost-
    To build and collect
    This most amazing Library
    So wonderful and perfect!

Ok, that is sort of lame and silly…totally not the same as yours, LOL!!

I remember playgrounds like that one! Safety wasn’t too much of a concern back then. Why there are not ever any of those teeter-totters (see-saws) nowadays anymore. AAnd a slide that high?? Only at water parks these days! LOL! Looks like this one was well used and what a ton of good old fun!!

    • HA! Yep – great minds started our poems out the same indeed. Good job!!! Libraries are such special places – I was always excited to be inside one as a kid and still am – the incredible library in the photo was one of the most amazing places I’ve EVER been in…and seeing the Book of Kells was quite an experience.

  2. I love it!!! and I miss the smell of libraries… and the ole bat (it always had an ole bat, right?) who made snake like shhhhht!!!! noises as soon as you opened the mouth.. the deep respect I felt when I looked over all this thoughts, imaginations and facts what came from smart minds directly in a book…

    • YES there always was an old bat with glasses down on her nose and her gray hair up in a bun and THAT LOOK when you even coughed in “her” library. I agree with you that being in a library is sometimes overwhelming. So many people writing about so many things and so much to learn or just enjoy. Books are magical.

  3. I love your poem this week!

We were looking at next week’s photo trying to work out what was going on and thought, “looks like an accident waiting to happen”. Then we scrolled down and read your words! 😀

    • Yes my Mom felt very much like she was in a sacred place when she was in Trinity College Library. Then to see the Book of Kells – well – she SAYS she almost cried at the “craftmanship” and beauty of the lettering and illustrations.

  5. Angel Sammy, I know my mom has loved libraries since she was 6. At first, for fairy tales and the like and then, she went through a strong horse loving phase..so many books about them. Then, history. She loved going every Saturday.

    • I remember it to be the highlight of my week when I was little and I’ve always loved going to libraries – they’re always comfortable, cool, quiet spots to read or tiptoe through the shelves to find a treasure!

  6. That is an amazing library and such beautiful old buildings. We were there about 3 maybe 4 years ago. The Book of Kells is so beautiful.

    • It really is beautiful – I was very “moved” seeing it AND the Book of Kells – it just touched me in an interesting way – thinking about all the care/love/dedication it took to illustrate those incredible pages.

    • Oh how cool that they had a doll house in the kids’ room. My Mom just remembers a small round table and small chairs in the kids’ room and you’re right – all libraries SMELL like old books – they have a “good” aroma!

We just got some of the wind and rain. Think Jake is himself again so canceled vet appt. Been naughty this morning. LOL. Let someone who really needs have it. So hard to get in now. 11. Teddy Dad says he went to the library when he was in grade school and loved being in the children’s section. He saw “Space Cat” there for the first time! That is a great poem and we have to remember in today when so many say that e is the future how many books are not on e! The wealth of knowledge is not even if the trendy book-of-the-Month is.

  12. My library as a kid had an Egyptian mummy on display and every time I went, showed the same reverence as when I went to church. It seemed like such an amazing place to visit. All those books, that mummy and the Dewey decimal card drawers. I was fascinated with them and loved checking them out as well. Ahh, those were the days!

  13. My mom has that same kind of memory of being dropped off at the children’s room with her brother and sister while her mom went to look for her own books in the grown-up section of the library. The kids were only allowed to take ONE book each every week. (Her mom wasn’t keen on chasing down random numbers of books every Saturday morning) Mom lined up all the books she liked and always picked the fattest one because she knew that would last the longest during the week. #goodtimes

    • That’s exactly what my Mom did……dumped us off (which was fine with us) and off on her own. Whenever we heard creaking on the stairs we were afraid it was her coming to take us home. It was such a wonderful place to be – we always lost track of time!

Humid – it’s is awful here, and today’s temp was 99 at last check with 115 feel-like. Needless to say, we spent the day inside.

    • When you love words you read and write……..and many of us who become hooked on books as kids STAY that way and even write books of our own! So many people say they became book lovers in a little library. I can remember my first grade teacher reading stories to us and I just loved it! I suppose that’s my earliest book-related memory.
