SPARK on Monday

Standard

“SPARKS” was started by Annie McGuffy of McGuffy’s Reader but ended when her blog was hacked some time ago.  It was meant to be a way to start out each week with with a meaningful thought – something that spoke to each of us and hopefully everyone else who read it.    Sometimes we need a little “spark” in our lives and these posts were meant to at least be a PART of that effort.    Those of us who enjoyed sharing a SPARK with Annie have continued doing so on Mondays – and we hope one day soon Annie will be back blogging with us again.

After last week and all the craziness that came from it, I was looking for a quote that reflected how I felt after watching with the world what was taking place right here in Washington, DC.   I felt like everyone else felt I think and it took me until the following day or even the day after that, to look at what happened and “accept” it (if that makes sense?!).

I was raised to be a very patriotic person – my Dad was in the Air Force until he retired right here in Virginia, in close range to DC.    He was buried in Arlington Cemetery within sight of the Pentagon which is where he was assigned twice in his career.    He was VERY patriotic – he’d get tears in his eyes when he was saluting the flag or listening to the National Anthem.    I got my love of country from him.   Had he been alive last week he would have been as horrified as I was by what I saw on TV.   I won’t go on and on and on about it – we’ve all talked about it as we “needed” to among ourselves.    Let’s just say I was disappointed and saddened and maybe a little MAD.

So here’s the SPARK I found that says what I want to say to END my discussion of last week……………..because I am not going to live in that moment – I’m going to continue in my OWN moment with my OWN feelings and hope we have a new beginning………..

And I really don’t need to explain that……………it really TRULY says what I hope for all of us who CARE.

Hugs, Pam

  1. I think that you chose a good Spark. SSNS and I watched it all play out and I really had no words initially. Shocked into silence. We talked about it and still talk about it but I don’t seem able to talk about it to anybody else. My hope is for kindness to prevail and a brighter future as mentioned here in comments. It’s a sad time. Difficult times as Clowie’s biped says.

    • Thanks….I really tried to find a Spark that expressed how I feel – I watched it all with tears in my eyes. My hope is your hope – for kindness and REALITY to prevail. Times are difficult but we have definitely managed to get through difficult times before and I just hope that we can bring back the TRUE spirit that I believe our country has. I kept thinking “the blind leading the blind”…..it was a demonstration of that on steroids! HUGS to you and SSNS………………

  2. Pam what a wonderful Sparks and I 100% agree with it.
I don’t like violence of any kind. I’m also very patriotic so much so I have a a bag full of Old Glory
Garden Flags that are faded and tattered. I know there is a way to respectfully discard them but I just have done it.

  3. Your perfect Spark really says it all at this time in our history. Mom’s dad served in the Army in WW2. He raised a patriotic family. Once when they moved from an apartment to a house, the first thing her dad did was to hang a flag on the front porch. They didn’t have a sofa or a kitchen table yet, but the flag was waving out there!

  5. What a perfect Spark. Thank you. I don’t believe those protestors will ever think their world is a beautiful place, and they are definitely taking the beauty from the rest of us. I pray this turmoil will soon be at an end. Love to you, Janet

    • We just can’t let this happen……we just can’t. I have often thought I had lived during the best of times – which I still think – but now I’ve added “Best of Times and Worst of Times”…..to that. Sadly.

  6. OMG the world is a bad place just now. Be it the US or Scotland 😦 I really think Covid has brought the worst out in so many people 😦

More people should have cats, honestly they make your life so much better 😀

    Great quote 😀

    • You’re right – cats seem to make things FEEL and SEEM normal…..they are a calming influence on us. You’re right about Covid – I think it only made what was “brewing” under the surface of people’s feelings blow way out of proportion. Sad.
