Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Our “double purpose” post each Thursday – the Thankful Blog Hop hosted by Brian (which you can join by clicking the badge above and linking up) and Angel Sammy’s Poetic Thursday where we use a photo from Sammy as inspiration to write a poem.

Both fun things to do on a Thursday in the blogosphere……………so we will begin with our THANKFULS.    Our biggest “thankful” almost this whole year has been that me, Mom and Dad have remained virus-free.    Mom and Dad have been so careful – wearing masks, social distancing and pretty much not going anywhere except the grocery store.    I am their inspiration – they see me and think “who would take care of Teddy if we weren’t here???” and that keeps them ON TRACK and staying safe.

Angel Sammy gives all of us a chance to be creative every week too.    He gives us one week to come up with a poem to go with the photos he gives us on Thursdays.    All kinds of photos too – happy, sad, strange, vintage – a wide variety of visual inspiration and we can write any kind of poem we want!    Let’s get to his message for this week shall we?

Ahhh….we meet again!   Time for poetry everyone!

Hope everything is still OK with all of you and your humans as well.   There is hope on the horizon and that should be lifting spirits now that there is treatment for the vaccine and perhaps life will soon be back to “normal”.     We Angels have watched the turmoil and sadness there with tears in our eyes………..we have hoped you have stayed safe.

Now on to another happy subject – POETRY.    I hope since you have had a whole week to think about the photo I gave you LAST week, that you have written a poem to share today.   I look forward to seeing what you’ve come up with!    Here is last week’s photo, and my humble contribution to poetry based on the photo:

“The Work Never Stops”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      ©December 9, 2020

At the freezing North Pole work is year round

Nobody tires of all the Christmas sights and sounds

Their mission is huge and the challenge of deadlines looms

But the elves keep on working in all of Toyland’s rooms

Building and testing and wrapping the toys

Knowing their work will please the little girls and boys

At last the day comes when it’s time to load the sleigh

Mrs. Claus waves farewell and Santa is on his way!

When Santa returns home with his mission of love complete

Mrs. Claus and the elves will gather in the snow and sleet

Everyone will rest after an incredibly long night

The empty sleigh and toy bag make a rather sad sight

The morning will come and the work will begin a new

Christmas is a year away but their work starts NOW for all of you !

My Mom says as a little girl she sort of felt sorry for the elves because they had to work year round to keep up with building all the toys the kids of the world had asked for Christmas.   I suspect it was a huge honor to be chosen as part of Santa’s Toy Building crew and the elves loved their work and didn’t mind at all that they had fun all day and got a nice paycheck with the steady work!   Especially these days!

So here’s the photo I found for you to use for NEXT Thursday’s poem……………….hope you will write a poem for this photo and share it with us next week.    If you wrote one for the Santa Workshop photo tell us in comments so we can read it on your blog!!

Somebody sure captured a beautiful photo with this one didn’t they?    There’s a lot to SEE and FEEL in this photo – let’s see what we all come up with for next week OK?   Until then, take care of yourselves and keep up the spirit of HOPE.    It’s worth hanging on to.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love always, Angel Sammy

I’m getting very excited about Christmas Angel Sammy…………..I know you’ll be here in spirit and we have lots of Christmas ornaments of you on the Christmas tree, but I wish you could be here in person just one day so we could play together.    Sending you hugs…………

Love, Teddy

  1. Dear Angel Sammy, Santa Claus, Joulupukki in Finnish, lives in Finland in a fjell Korvatunturi in the North, near Eastern border with Russia. You can find that fjell in a map, there is also Rudolph ready for Christmas. You know it is really cold at the North Pole, impossible to live there.
    Many hugs,
    a cat in faraway Finland.

    • Dear Tabbies – my friends – thank you for bringing a lot of smiles to us through the year – Mom and I hope all of you have the BESTEST BURD-FREE CHRISTMAS EVER!!!!!!! I’m sure he saw your poem so you probably should expect some nice bird-free gifts from him this year!!!! Merry Christmas and Happy HEALTHY New Year………..

Love, Teddy, Angel Sammy and Mom

  8. That is a lovely poem Angel Sammy. Santa and the elves work so hard.
Next week’s photo is beautiful. The turquoise water reminds me of the Norwegian fjords. I think I remember them being that colour in Alaska too.

    • I wondered just where this photo was taken – the woman in the photo has what appears to be a bit of a Native American design blanket but that doesn’t mean anything necessarily…’s just such a CALM photo – I just love it!

      Hugs, Pam

  9. Great poem. Hope your having a nice day. 50 today and sunny. We went shopping this morning and son saved a lot of money with his two discount cards from his work. We stocked up on a lot of stuff and got a few presents.

  10. A most excellent poem, Angel Sammy! I think the elves truly love their work they do for Santa and all of us. Whenever I feel a little off during the holidays I think about all these traditions and fun things and it makes me feel joy again. We all need a little Christmas!

    • Yes – my Mom says “Christmas is good for the soul” and it’s true. No matter how sad or scary or depressing things might get (and heaven knows they have) we have Christmas and you can’t HELP but feel better when you think about it and all it means and all the fun that happens around it. My job is to keep Mom and Dad happy – I think I’m doing a good job of it!

      Hugs, Teddy Boop

    • We are amazed that some people are still planning to TRAVEL on Christmas out of state……if people continue to do that this will just go on and on and on until the vaccine puts an end to it but that won’t happen for a while! We just don’t understand why people can’t do the RIGHT thing……………..

      Hugs, Teddy and Mom

  11. Teddy, if anything ever happened to your mom and dad, please make certain they know that you can come live with us. Cooper would absolutely love that. But please continue to keep them safe. Our mom and dad don’t want to lose such good friends.Angel Sammy, your poem was terrific, as usual. In these uncertain times, at least Santa elves know they will always have jobs. Love to the whole family. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, angel Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

    • Oh gosh – knowing that you would help me if I was alone so I don’t have to go to a shelter makes my heart happy……I hope that never happens though – I love my family and try to take care of Mom and Dad (especially Mom right now) and I’m trying to keep them safe and home with me! The Blue Family is so full of love – thanks for being our special friends….

      Hugs, Teddy
