Bakin’ With Bacon and the King for Thanksgiving!

Standard

Howdy Fellow Chefs!   I have a yummy side dish for you!

I’ve got another good one for you today. My Mom is a nutcase when it comes to insisting we have Green Bean Casserole for Thanksgiving – and just about any other time she can make it as well. So how about a recipe for the casserole WITH BACON????

Not a recipe you’ve never heard of I’m sure but maybe one you sort of forgot about – I don’t think most people put cheddar cheese OR bacon it it but it sure adds a lot!

Bacon Cheddar Green Bean Casserole

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cans (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup or 98% Fat Free Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and chopped (about 6 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 8 cups cooked green beans or 4 cans (14.5 ounces each) any style Del Monte® Green Beans, drained
  • 2 2/3 cups French’s® French Fried Onions

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Step 1

Stir the soup, milk, half the cheese, 5 tablespoons bacon, black pepper, beans and 1 1/3 cups onions in a 3-quart baking dish.

  • Step 2

Bake at 350°F. for 25 minutes or until the bean mixture is hot and bubbling and the beans are tender (for softer beans bake a little longer).  Stir the bean mixture.  Sprinkle with the remaining cheese, onions and bacon.

  • Step 3

Bake for 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.

Oh boy – I want a big old bowl of this now.    Well, Mom wouldn’t give me a big bowl of it ANY TIME but maybe for Turkey Day this year since they will be home making their own meal for a change they could let me have a LITTLE TASTE????????????????????

Since we won’t see you before Thanksgiving has come and gone – we hope all of you who celebrate Thanksgiving have a wonderful time – even if it’s just your family at home instead of with big groups – you can be THANKFUL that you’re healthy and have delicious food to eat………………so many don’t.

Hugs, King Teddy !!

  1. Shockingly we are going to pass up Green bean casserole this year… we will see how long that decision holds up. I have all the stuff, even bacon because of the chicken breasts for the slow cooker and we always have Cheddar. I think this is a good recipe to jazz up green bean casserole. Maybe do it for Christmas.

  2. Mom said it will be a very simple, minimal tiny dinner this time. A turkey breast, the usual accompanying dishes but only a few..mashed potatoes, real mac and cheese. A green veggie, some stuffing and cranberry sauce…a bit of gravy, that’s about all. Only two of the favorite brovvers will be here. The rest will come for the desserts!

    • That sounds like what we’ll have without the mac and cheese (which my Mom LOVES but doesn’t make at Thanksgiving)…………..stuffing yes, cranberry/orange sauce yes, gravy totally, mashed ‘taters for sure…..and a small turkey breast (or breasticle as my Dad calls it). Mom is also making that apple pie I had on my blog last Saturday. Sounds like all of us are ready to enjoy TURKEY DAY!

  3. Mom and I have NEVER had green bean casserole in our lives. Cream of mushroom soup scares us. Maybe knowing we could pick out the bacon pieces to share and leave the rest might draw us in…

    Love and licks,

    • HAHAHAHAHA…..well, I’ve heard of people using other soups like cream of celery but I have to think cream of mushroom is better than that. It’s just an old fashioned thing I think – my Mom always made it for Thanksgiving – and fortunately (for me and David anyway) we both love it. I rarely make it any other time of the year though!

  4. That looks lip licking good Teddy. Dad of Angel Madi has a ‘problem’ with the word casserole…says he doesn’t like too many things mixed together. I always remind him he loves wok dishes….LOL
BUT maybe BACON would help him forget it.

  5. My mom makes Green Bean Casserole for the family at Thanksgiving but sadly I don’t eat it because well I just don’t like vegetables. Despite that, your recipe does sound good.
Thank you for the recipe and Happy Thanksgiving.

  6. So yummy! After you start enjoying sharp or extra sharp cheddar, all the others taste so bland, LOL!

Bacon with any kind of cheesy add-alongs are the bomb…too bad we don’t eat this way any more…we have a similar recipe for our style of eating, but it is very complicated and not all that yummy…booo…

So we roast Brussels Sprouts with cranberries:) (Not sure if you can add bacon or not, hahaha!)

  7. This sounds yummy 😋 We think we’ll try it. I’ve never made it before or forgotten how to make it. It hasn’t been a tradition here. We had corn growing up at thanksgiving. 🦃 We would half the recipe. It’s just Doug and me this year. I’m missing the little ones so much.
