Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

These days I think we’re really thinking more about the things we are thankful for – at least I know me and my family are…………and what’s #1 on our list?    We’re very thankful to still have our health.    It definitely PAYS to do what we’ve been told to do to stay safe.   Masks, distancing, the whole “nine yards”.     Many who don’t will wind up paying the price by getting sick.    We’re also thankful lately for the gorgeous Fall weather.    We’ve had some really cold mornings but so far no hard frosts and the leaves are taking their time turning which is also nice.    Last year they all just turned brown and fell to the ground without giving us the beautiful show we’re used to here in Virginia.

I’m also very happy that we continue to get Angel Sammy’s poem every single week.    I DO look forward to that – I hope you do too!

Hello Poetry Pals!

Time for us to get together and share poems that we’ve written during the days since last Thursday when we met.    A whole week to come up with a poem that reflects what we see or feel when we look at a photo.    I love finding what I think will be a fun and inspiring photo for all of us to use each week – I sure hope you’ve having fun too!

Here’s the photo I gave you for poem-writing this week followed by my poem for this photo:

“Pals”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      ©October 7, 2020

Birds of a feather we may not be

But we can still be pals – you and me

We both have the need for food and shelter

No roaming the streets living helter skelter

We found forever homes where love prevails

Smooth sailing through our lives with wind in our sails.

We may not have come from the same gene pool

But in our lives with our humans we know love rules

When we need a friend or a pal we know where to go

Our friendship is real – it’s not “just for show”!

Life can be tough for human guys and gals

But in the animal world cats and dogs can be pals!

I know lots of families who have cats and dogs (and birds and fish and guinea pigs and – well you get the picture!) and everyone gets along just fine.     The cat and dog in this photo seem to have a special relationship.    I know that as an “only cat” in my house for almost 18 years it probably would have been tough to introduce another cat or a dog into the house.  I was very used to ruling my roost!   But I think I would have tried to make friends – after all, we ALL need a friend.    My Mom and Dad were always there for me – like they are for Teddy now – but I think maybe another animal to “talk” to, snuggle with, grow up with – would also be very cool.

Now I have another photo for you for next Thursday when we get together – so you have a whole week to write a poem for this photo – easy peasy huh?

Cool little dude huh?    Will make for a fun poem I think.   So start thinking about how this photo makes you feel – or what you see in the photo – that’s poetic material you know!

Meanwhile, stay safe as you can……………stay home if you can…………..The Angels are watching and helping as much as we can but it’s up to YOU to do the right thing……………….

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

See you next Thursday Poetry Fans!   Love, Angel Sammy

♥♥♥

Thank you Angel Sammy……………………we’ll look forward to seeing you again next Thursday………………….

Love Forever, Teddy

  1. That is a very sweet poem about friendship, Angel Sammy. I used to have an inflatable almost identical to that when I was a toddler!
I am thankful that I had a phone call for my op at last! Email to follow.

  2. I’m very glad that I have cat pals. One of the cats wasn’t very pleased about me arriving at first, but we became great friends after a few months. The bipeds made sure he could always get away from me until I learnt how to treat cats with respect. The other cat was still a kitten and thought I was a new toy for him! 😀

    • Kittens adjust to a new doggy in the family more easily than a cat who is used to being the “Queen or King” of the house! I know that works the other way around too with dogs who get a new kitten in the home. It takes time but once everyone realizes there’s plenty of love, attention (and food!) to go around things get GREAT!

  3. O, Angel Sammy, that was a wonderful poem. You always make it so special that we’re in aww all the time💗Granny always had a doggie and a kitty, and she was taking care of the kitty always…also of the twofeet baby, that was really sweet. When we started to do the poem, it was a remembrance poem, but that made Granny very emotional, so we did another one for you. Pawkisses for a Happy Thursday to all of you🐾😽💞

    • Hello Miss Pix! There are a whole lot of great poems this week and everyone pretty much “saw” what Angel Sammy “saw” about friendships. It’s a sweet photo and so is next week’s! I bet it’s another “banner poetry day” too!

      Hugs, and GOOD MORNING!

  4. Angel Sammy, you always and ever do just the perfect poem for us. I was thinking too that you and I would be alike in that I too am used to ruling the roost– and unless someone came in with me the same time I arrived home…I probably would not be as welcoming as mom would like me to be if she introduced me to another cat. XX You know how we can be.

    • Oh yes indeed……….we’ve had our Moms 24/7 all to ourselves (when they’re home of course!) and I have my Dad and you have your human brothers as well………..we like things JUST THE WAY THEY ARE. I am curious about other visiting cats and I sort of take care of them by letting Mom know when someone is at the front door needing a handout……but if they came in MY house? Well – not so sure I’d be calm, cool, and collected!!! I’m glad you like the poem Angel Sammy did too – he picked a cute one for next week too.

    • It’s starting to get very pretty here with all the usual Fall colors in the maples and oaks……..Fall is arriving slowly and that gives the leaves a chance to “do their thing” before going brown and falling off!!

  7. We agree with you, T. It does pay to follow the rules and give ourselves the best odds to stay well. We are a little sad and VERY annoyed at the people who try to buck the system. They make it worse for themselves and make it last longer for the rest of us. Blerg!

    • Yep – some people just refuse to believe that it helps to take precautions (or those who don’t think it’s something to even worry about!). Crazy – we will continue to do what is recommended by the HEALTH PROFESSIONALS – not those who think they know everything ! 😉

  8. We are really thankful when our friends are happy and healthy Teddy and we sure know you are one good friend. Great photo and poem Sammy. We never had any woofies in our house but Angels Ming and Peep did and they said they got along great. Well except that time Spunky stuck his nose into Peeps kittens box and she boxed him out the door. MOL

  11. We’re so glad you’re all safe and healthy, Teddy, and we’re glad that it’s autumn! And what a sweet and beautiful poem, Angel Sammy! I love that my kitties and pup get along, and it always makes my heart happy to see cats and dogs who are friends. Next week’s photo is going to be yet another fun one to work with. Purrs!

  12. We are really embarrassed due to our mom being so far behind in commenting. Sammy, your poem is truly inspired. Mom cannot understand how as one species humans cannot seem to get along when most animals seem to have it figured out, even when they are quite different. Teddy, we really liked your arty photo at the end. Love to both of you sweet ginger boys and your mom and dad. • Please don’t worry about commenting on our posts – truly – we feel the days slipping by and are barely aware of routines like checking blog posts and even checking the calendar for things that we’re SUPPOSED to be doing! It’s a troubled time. We totally understand. Glad you liked our poem last week though!
