Bakin’ With Bacon and King Teddy

Standard

Boo !!!!

Tonight is HALLOWEEN night…………….for us, it’s different than any other Halloween we’ve had because there will be either NO trick or treaters or very few.    A few people in our neighborhood here at the castle have decorated outside but not many.     Most Halloween celebrations are inside and no candy will be given out so lots of people are just having some good old family fun for the evening.    So I propose we give you a recipe this week for a Halloween treat that’s incredibly decadent and probably scary from the calories point of view but hey – it’s HALLOWEEN!

Grilled Chocolate Chip Cookie Bacon S’Mores

INGREDIENTS Yields 12

12 thick-cut slices bacon (hickory smoked, Applewood smoked or maple)

12 large marshmallows

12 2-inch squares chocolate good quality

12 skewers

12 tablespoons butter, softened

3⁄4 cup brown sugar

1⁄4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 egg plus 1 egg yolk

2 cups flour

1 3.4-ounce box instant French vanilla pudding mix, dry, not prepared

1 teaspoon baking soda

1⁄2 teaspoon salt

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS (this calls for grilling…..I bet you clever people can figure out a way to do this without firing up the grill!)

Make the cookies: In a bowl, cream together butter, sugar and brown sugar for 1 to 2 minutes until light and very fluffy. Add vanilla, egg and egg yolk, and mix well. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, pudding mix, baking soda, and salt.

Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until incorporated and dough comes together. Stir in chocolate chips. Cover very tightly and chill for at least 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350 F. Roll dough into balls (about 11⁄2 inch) and space 2 to 3 inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly browned on top. Allow to cool 5 to 10 minutes on baking sheet before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

To grill the bacon: Heat a grill to medium-high heat. Thread bacon onto skewers in an S-shape. Place skewers directly on grill and cook 8 to 12 minutes, rotating as needed to ensure even cooking. Transfer to a plate, let cool and then remove bacon from skewers. Set aside.

Meanwhile, roast the marshmallows: Roast marshmallows directly over the grill using skewers or roasting sticks until cooked to your preference.

Assemble s’mores: Flip one cookie over so it’s upside down. Place a square of chocolate on top of the upside-down cookie, then top with grilled marshmallow, bacon and a right side-up second cookie. Serve immediately.

Oh I think this is DEFINITELY a TREAT!

Have a SAFE Halloween everyone!    King Teddy

Friendly Fill-Ins on Friday

Standard

What? Is it really Friday again already? What is this weird thing about time lately……everything is all topsy turvy. Mom says that’s just the way it is these days. I think she’s right! Whatever the reason, it is time to join 15andMeowing and Four-Legged Furballs for some filling in fun. Each of our co-hosts gives us TWO sentences with blanks and all we have to do is fill them in! Sometimes I do them, sometimes Mom does them, and sometimes we BOTH do them.     If you think you might like to join in the fun, just click the graphic above and go to 15andMeowing and find the LINK.   Easy – link up with us and fill in your OWN blanks!

Here are this week’s four sentences and Mom did two (BLUE WORDS) and I did two (ORANGE WORDS) !

1. I keep trying to catch a chipmunk, but they’re able to climb trees too fast for me!.

2. I don’t need anything, but I want everything!

3. I would want “Love Is Forever” to be etched onto my tombstone.

4. If I heard something go bump in the night, I’d roll over and go back to sleep.

Thanks to our co-hosts for another fun Friday of filling in!

Hugs, Teddy

Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

YAY! Time to call out the things we’re thankful for this past week AND combine that with our Poetic Thursday poem and challenge from Angel Sammy.    First up is our THANKFULS.   We have the same BIG thankful that we’ve had for months now which is that so far we have stayed safe from the evil virus.    We remain hopeful that vaccines are in the near future and that we can one day in the NOT distant future wave goodbye to this incredibly scary virus.    If you’d like to join the Thankful Hop at Brian’s – just click his badge above and link up with us – thanks Brian for hosting!!

We got our poem from Angel Sammy as always and I’m sharing it with you along with your challenge photo for NEXT Thursday!   STAY SAFE!!

♥♥♥

Happy Thursday Poetic Friends!!

Time to let your poetry shine!    Every Thursday we gather together to share the poems we’ve written based on last week’s photo inspiration and this Thursday is like all other Thursdays in that regard – I can’t wait to read your poems.

Just a quick note from we Angels………….remember we are doing our best to keep you safe.    We can’t do it all though – YOU need to take some responsibility too and wear your masks, do your social distancing, wash your hands ALL THE TIME and just stay home if you can.    OK?    We love you and want you to be safe.

So below is the photo I gave you to inspire you for your poem this week – followed by MY poem for this week!

“Time Flies”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell    ©October 28, 2020

Seeing this old photo makes all of us realize

People once didn’t feel like sardines when they flew the friendly skies

There was room to breath and move about the plane with ease

No pull down tray in front of you that squished your knees!

The stewardesses were helpful and always had a smile

From boarding the plane to the very last mile

There was a magazine cart, refreshments served for no extra cost

I’m afraid those comfortable flying days have been forever lost!

This photo is what my Mom remembers about so many of the trips and travel she and her family did back when her Dad was in the Air Force and they moved frequently.    Roomy planes, delicious meals, and smiling helpful staff.     These days it’s just not the same on SO many levels!!!     Anyway, when I saw this photo I just knew it would make for good thoughts and fun poetry.   If you wrote a poem, let us know in comments so we can visit you and read what you wrote.

Now, I bet you’d like to see what I found for your “inspiration” for next Thursday!     It’s a simple photo of Fall…..but I’m thinking it’s very interesting in its’ own way.    I hope you do too!

WOW.    Sadly the first thing that came to my mind when I found this photo was the fires out West here in the USA.    But thankfully the bright colors in this photo are provided by the sun and not fire.    I love the single big tree taking it all in.

SO – have fun writing a poem to share next week…………and until then, please be careful and HAPPY!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love and Light, Angel Sammy

♥♥♥

Thank you Angel Sammy – your poem made me smile and I saw a smile on Mom’s face too!    She remembers when her Mom made her wear her best dress, white socks with lace on the tops and her black patent leather shoes to get on an airplane.    That was about 100 years ago I think.    HAHA

Love, Teddy

This is the very old and slightly spooky Bodiam Castle in East Essex, UK !

If you would be interested in learning a little more about this spot………………….just CLICK HERE and you can read all you want to about it.     I bet it would have made a great spot for a haunted castle party.

WHO guessed the location first?   Drumroll please………

MISS CSILLA !!!!!!

And here is your badge Miss Csilla !!

I was FIRST RIGHT GUESSER for the Teaser of Halloween, 2020! YAY FOR ME!!

There were a whole lot of you who guessed right though and EACH of you who did guess right – but weren’t FIRST like Miss Csilla was, get one of these badges of your own:

Well I was RIGHT with my guess on the Halloween Teaser of 2020 but I was not FIRST RIGHT. Phooey!

“Alright you students!  No pouting out there – if you didn’t win a badge this week you can try for one NEXT week! And THAT’S AN ORDER!!!”

The Cheer Team is saving themselves for a big finale today – announcing the winners of the photo guessing AND the costume contest so we’ll see them in a bit.

Thanks to all of you who participated this year!   We had eleven entries in the contest – and we had a TIE for the winner between two entries……they were:

The dynamic duo of “Stinky and Periwinkle” !!!

If you don’t know who Stinky and Periwinkle are – WHY NOT?   HAHA     They are creations of Janet of The Cat on My Head and Sharon of Friends Furever.    They have a wonderful blog post every single Tuesday by either Janet or Sharon and they are ALWAYS up to some kind of fun adventure.   Make sure you tune in on Tuesdays.  I’m not surprised they won – they are very popular and have a big following in the blogosphere!    And who was our other entry that tied for first???????

Joanie from 15andMeowing!

Joanie is one of the many kitties living with Miss Ellen and her husband in Massachusetts and Joanie is known for being the “costume wearer” in the family!    She models her nurse’s uniform nicely don’t you think?   Their blog is so much fun and you never know what the kitties are going to get up to at 15andmeowing.

Let’s hear it for our TWO winners………………….!

HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!

Stinky and Periwinkle’s Moms as well as Joanie will be getting a surprise package from us for being our Costume Contest winners………………They also get a special badge for being our winners and all of you who were in the contest get a badge too – here they are:

“Perimeter check completed Professors – BRING ON THE HALLOWEEN FUN!”

Hello Students – and happy EARLY Halloween!    Have you COMMENTED???   I hope so!     Today is the BIG DAY for starting our Halloween celebration.     We have a spooky Teaser photo for you and a spooky lunch in the cafeteria from Miss Dingleberry and her cafeteria crew……….AND of course our Halloween Contest Poll which contains photos of those of you who decided to participate this year.     So we have LOTS going on!    Let’s get to it…………….

Bring it on!

Let’s get the preliminaries out of the way shall we?   Here are the rules for the Teaser photo location guessing AND the special Halloween badges you might just win if you try!     The Teaser photo is a very lonely and maybe scary photo but you still need to see if you can figure out WHERE the photo was taken.

“Allo!  It is I – Sarge in my Vincent Van Gogh costume.   I wish you students luck too!”

We want to thank our Graphics Department for today’s photo – it looks like a very lonely (and probably haunted) place!

Here’s the photo for today’s Teaser Professors.

Where was this photo taken???????

Now as if that wasn’t plenty of fun for our Halloween Teaser post for this year – we also have our fabulous Costume Contest!      How this works is that you can vote in this poll for ONE and only ONE favorite.   We know all of the entries this year are amazing and fun but you only get to pick your absolutely favorite to vote for.    AND you can only vote ONCE!    The poll will be open for voting all day and tomorrow we will announce the WINNER!      The Winner will get a surprise package and you know we ALL love surprises right?     They will also get a special badge indicating they were the BESTEST Costume in our contest……………

Let’s see what the Cheer Team has to say to prepare all of us for Halloween!

Our post today is spooky
Or maybe a little kooky
The photo today is a little scary
Like Casper the Ghost or your Uncle Harry!
Put on those thinking caps and get to guessing
All our entries in their Halloween dressing!
Tomorrow we’ll see who wins Teaser and the Poll
Then we’ll go to Grumpy Cat Bar and rock-n-roll !!

Now – who’s up for having lunch???    Let’s go!!

Hope all you students are having a fun time in class today – we wish you luck in figuring out the Teaser AND in the costume contest!   Just a reminder that tomorrow we will have a SPOOKY lunch for you………
