Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Goodness is it Thursday already?    Fast week huh?    Well when you do the same thing day after day you lose track of days too but it seems like YESTERDAY we were here being thankful.   In fact, I think all of us are pretty THANKFUL every day if we’re still healthy right?   You can click the badge above and go to Brian’s place to join the Hop if you like.

Also received Angel Sammy’s poetic challenge poem………and if you wrote a poem too – let us know in comments – we wanna read it on your blog or just “write it” in comments!

Hello My Friends!   Ready to be poetic?

I’ll admit that the photo we shared our poetry for LAST week was a “hard act to follow” but I think the one for this week is just as wonderful in it’s way.    I really do have fun with Mom’s help, in finding photos I think would spark our imaginations so we can write a fun or interesting or pertinent kind of poem – in ANY poetic form.

Here’s the photo I gave you to use for THIS week’s poem – followed by my poem to go with the photo – AND a new photo for NEXT week’s get-together!

“Gondola Nap”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell    ©May 20, 2020

When in Venice you must take a gondola ride

Sharing your vacation photos from there gives you such PRIDE!

Long flights, long days, shopping, walking and eating

Those gondola rides have SUCH comfy seating !

The canals can be noisy with gondoliers singing

Sometimes so loud that your ears will be ringing!

But this pair of tourists won’t remember a thing

“Did we take a ride or just sit at the dock?”

“We must have gone somewhere – just look at the clock!”

“Uhoh the gondolier says he has a surprise for us……

A photo he says we can share on the tour bus!”

The gondolier’s friend handed the couple a photo souvenir

Even though it’s hilarious – it’s a memory so dear!

My Mom and Dad’s 30th anniversary is this September – they went to Europe for their honeymoon with Eurrail passes – They planned the cities they wanted to see then had a travel agent make hotel reservations in each city.   It was up to them to catch the trains they needed to get to their destinations.   They began in Rome, then next stop was Venice – and on from there to Lucerne, Paris and London.    My Mom has said that when they walked out of the train station in Venice she had tears in her eyes at the BEAUTY of the city.   The steps to the station took them right down to the canals and every direction she looked, she saw amazing buildings, seemingly floating on the water………a most magical city and one she to this day DREAMS about.    Anyway, she and Dad managed to do a night time gondola ride by candlelight after a wonderful dinner in one of the super restaurants and the gondolier had a BEAUTIFUL voice and serenaded them as he guided them through the canals with love songs.     Sigh.     The couple in this photo will laugh at this photo for YEARS to come – just as my Mom to this day sheds a tear at the photo of her first view of Venice outside the train station preserved in a photo she took.

Now here’s your photo for NEXT Thursday………..have fun writing a poem for this!

If you have problems with heights……..well………..maybe this condo isn’t for you?????

So I’ll see you here next week and we’ll share poems for this photo OK?    OK!   It’s a date!   Meantime stay SAFE and stay HEALTHY……………………….your Angels are here whenever you need us.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love to my Family and Friends………forever

  1. That is such a funny photo, and the poem is exactly right for it, Angel Sammy.
I couldn’t sit on that balcony looking out over that great height!
It took our 3rd visit to New York before I plucked up the courage to go up the Empire State Building. All the photos I took were from arms length.

    • I hear you about height – whoever has that condo – well – let’s just say I hope they aren’t a heavy drinker. I get a little bit “squiggly in the tummy” when I’m WAY UP but can usually handle it unless I have to get too close to the edge.

      • My knees go weak. A bit like butterflies in your stomach, but I get them in my knees! Even looking at photos of great heights sometimes does it too. The strange thing is, if we are on a cruise I can look over the side when we are at sea and not bat an eyelid, but if we are in port, no way can I look out over.

        • Gosh I tried to think why it would be different moving or being still but can’t think of a reason! I do remember many years ago when my Dad was buying his own condo after he and my Mom divorced that it was a brand new building under construction and he went with the sales person on the elevator starting with ground floor – up one floor at a time to look over the balcony of a condo on that floor to see if he could handle the height……he made it to the fifth floor before beginning to feel “UNCOMFORTABLE” – so bought a condo on the 5th floor!!!!

  2. Teddy, look at you…not sleeping, MOL!

That new picture could be a teaser you think??

    Here is a little ditty I ‘composed’…

    A couple afloat,
    In a gondola boat…
    After their time to dine,
    They’d had some good wine.
    They boarded and sat,
    And began to chit chat.
But the soft rocking and swaying,
    While Gondolier was rowing ,
    Soon had them dreaming.
    And gondoliers eyes were gleaming,
    With much humor and glee;
As it was great to see,
This sweet couple in such bliss
They didn’t even need to have a kiss!

    • THAT IS FABULOUS!!!!! HAHA – well done “little ditty” and now that you’ve done THIS I’ll expect a poem every week. Tee Hee Seriously – I love this and it’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw it – after a nice meal and a long trip who wouldn’t fall asleep in the gondola?? I’m surprised we didn’t since ours was after a good meal, lots of wine, and it was at NIGHT in candlelight so perfect SNOOZE time. We were just so incredibly excited to be in Venice I think.

    • I wondered about that too – I’ve seen other places on even HIGHER FLOORS that have a balcony but a “safety screen” of some kind or even glassed in with safety glass. This one is – well – made for happy accidents. LOL

    • Glad to hear everyone is healthy – now STAY THAT WAY! Your poem was really PERFECT too for the photo – I bet the gondolier is thinking “these two need their hotel room – NOW!!”……….HAHA

  3. I LOVE seeing Teddy there in his sunpuddle and angel Sammy…what a great poem! You never fail to give us your very best!

Mom said she examined (and she does study pictures) the gondolier’s face and she was just so taken with that smile, the entire posture he had there, his musculature from rowing and that expression. Just took all her attention she said. Then she looked at the couple. Can you imagine that? I’d be embarrassed and tickled.

  4. That was a fun poem. It reminds me of how I tease my mom about falling asleep when we took Sarah to see CATS on Broadway 🙂 I am glad you got to have a romantic gondola ride and I hope you can again when there is a vaccine for the virus. Have a great day! XO

  6. We really got a big chuckle out of this photo. We only hope that couple has a good sense of humor. We are really hoping that condo has an invisible shield:)

  7. Can you believe it…our humans did not take a gondola ride when they were in Venice. Mom doesn’t remember why they decided not to do so. Teddy, our mom absolutely loved reading about your mom and dad’s Venice experience. What wonderful memories. Your sun puddle photo is adorable. Sending lots of love to all.
