Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Okee Dokee!   It’s Thursday so time to share some thankfuls with each other.   If you want to join in this Hop hosted by our buddy Brian, click his badge and fill out the linky form and you’re IN!

Well we had introooooders in the house this morning and it made me realize one thing for sure that I’m thankful for – and that is that we have a nice big three story house with a whole lot of hidey-holes and hidden spots so that when strangers are here, I can find a nice, quiet place to wait until they leave.    I’m not shy with people I recognize and even some strangers, but these guys had noisy work uniforms and noisy paper shoe covers and noisy toolboxes and they were coming and going from the front door a LOT.   SO I thought I’d forego the usual “WELCOME TO OUR HOUSE” greeting and pick a hidey hole.     Know where Mom and Dad found me?   INSIDE one of my “cubby holes” on my cat tree.    What’s the big deal about that?    I love my tree – a LOT – but I’ve never been inside the little boxes with entry holes because I’m TOO BIG.    When Mom and Dad came looking for me after the workers left I was stuffed inside one of the cubes with my head sticking out.    Dad said “I hope he can get out of there!” and they were pleased to see that while I took up every square inch of space in the cube part, I am wiry and agile enough to unfold myself and squeeze out like a wiggly worm with no problem!    They laughed!   Imagine that!      It’s nice to feel SAFE in my house though.

I’m also thankful Angel Sammy’s email came on time…………I’m sharing it with you below.

Let’s Share Poetry!

Hello friends………….time for us to get together and share the poems we have written that were inspired by the photograph I gave you last week.    Oh I look forward to this every week and I hope you do too – AND of course if you’ve not participated before, please give it a try.    Short poem or long, any form you like, but you might find it’s a lot of fun to write one with a photo I’ve found as your inspiration!

Here’s last week’s photo – if you’ve written one, please tell us in comments and give us a link to it so we can come read it!!!

“Hug Fest”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell    ©February 5, 2020

“Hey don’t push or we’ll all fall down!”

This group of meerkats is full of clowns!

A bunch of meerkats is called a MOB

They squish up close like a hairy blob!

They’re in the same family as the cute mongoose

They stay in groups and are rarely on the loose

Many years ago I saw them in a zoo

Moving about in a clump – never fewer than two

They love each other’s company so three’s not a crowd

If they see an eagle they will growl and yell quite loud

All I know is I think they are quite cute

With their raccoon mask eyes and their hairy brown suits

If they are very careful and don’t become an eagle’s prey

They can live ten years full of fun and play.

My Mom has a crush on these little cuties……………from what I’ve read they have a very complex society and to me that means they are smart little animals.   Photos of their “babies” are beyond cute.    Of course kittens are pretty darn cute too – I know I was!

Now, here’s NEXT WEEK’s photo inspiration – you have a whole week to think of a poem to go with this photo – I think it might be a FUN one!

OK everyone – take your best shot………………..and be here next Thursday to share your poem OK?    GO FOR IT!     Until then, remember we Angels have our eyes on you 24/7 – you are never alone………we will watch over you always and forever.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Sammy

  1. It must’ve felt SO cozy squeezed inside that hidey hole, T. You are a smart kitty. Lucky there was no food inside there. Once Winnie the Pooh went into a small hole, and ate so much honey he COULDN’T get out! #donttrythisathome

    • What a great poem! Well done! It was a lot of fun learning about meerkats wasn’t it………Mom has always loved them but this way a lot of people had to research them a bit in order to write a poem and now there are even more “FANS” for meerkats!

      Hugs, Teddy

  2. Teddy, I gotta tell ya, I would have laughed too! Your ginger head poking out of that hole and knowing you stuffed yourself in there… Hahaha! What your Dad said cracked me up this morning. I don’t like worker dudes in the house either but Jerry talks them to death so I just hide in the office. Informative poem Angel Sammy… you can watch these little cuties on Meerkat Manor. It’s not being produced any longer I don’t think but it is on Animal Planet and through Amazon Prime… I think. It was the cutest show. Jerry and I watched it religiously but then things started happening to the little things and I had to give it up. Gorgeous picture for next week… I could live there with a little fix-up and a two car garage! I love a green roof… tile preferably! Okay, I wrote a book… I am done.

    • Oh I’m sure you and Jerry could fix that little house up in the middle of nowhere and then the sign would change from POPULATION: 1 to POPULATION: 3 !! I wonder if the “one” lives in that hovel? Or maybe it’s a ghost?

  3. I love the poem! It is perfect for those sweet creatures. I don’t think there are many in the world who would not smile at the sight of meerkats and just adore them. I have seen National Geographic and PBS specials on them…enchanting! A long time ago. I don’t think as many of these wholesome really fine broadcasts are on any longer…I hope I am totally wrong because after all, I am not on cable. Anyway, the youngest was so enchanted (as was I) that when I found a Meercat figurine for him for Christmas, he was happy as could be! Next weeks picture is a FUN one for sure!

    • We don’t have cable either but there are a couple of animal programs on one of our channels – and Mom loves them! Any time there’s a PBS special we don’t miss it either but there are some that Mom gets upset about like when alligators get baby animals in the water, etc. Life can be cruel but it runs the way it’s meant to be I suppose. ANYWAY, next week’s photo is very cool and just a bit spooky don’t you think?

  4. I’m sure they’d have helped you to get out of the cube if you’d really been stuck! It made me think of the story where Winnie-the-Pooh gets stuck.

    • Mom said she wished she had her camera – I was in the basement and when Mom and Dad appeared trying to FIND where I’d been hiding while the maintenance guys were here, I immediately came out of my “hole” so no chance to get her camera. She said she just can’t carry her camera with her all the time but she kind of wishes she could since most of the time I’ve moved from some certain CUTE position by the time she goes to get the camera. It would be nice if she had a camera on her glasses!!! LOL

  5. I am glad you found a very safe spot to hide. That was a cute poem, I didn’t know meerkats liked so much togetherness. Thanks for hosting. Have a great day! XO

    • Teddy is funny because some strangers he seems to know are “ok”…….we’ve had repairmen come to the door and he acts like they are old friends! Others he runs from. I think cats recognize “cat people” right away!

  8. Well, now we know what the prison of Lost Springs looks like. Too bad that lone citizen if also an inmate… but hey, he’s also the mayor by default!

Your introoders sound an awful lot like the introoders I had about a month ago. I hope they didn’t steal as much of your folks’ money as my plumber introoders did mine…

  9. Teddy, the cat condo is a great place to hide…I do it all the time. I must be smaller than you cause you could fit at least 2 of me in the cubby hole or what I refer to as the bedroom.

Meerkats are interesting to watch and learn from their safe ways,

  10. Teddy, we don’t like when strangers come into our house making lots of noise either. Usually when this happens, you can find us under the beds. Those meerkats are cute. But they sure don’t look like “kats.” MOL!

  11. That is a really cute picture and Sammy did a great job with the poem. I’m glad you had a good place to ride out the storm. 🙂 Chris goes into his cubby hole sometimes on the cat tree. When he was sick I worried that I might not get him out of there if we had to go to the vet.

    • We thought there would be some cute poems written in honor of these adorable little guys and we were right! Mom has long been a fan of the meerkat for many reasons, one of which is defnitely that they look out for each other!

  13. Teddy, we enjoyed reading about your hidey hole adventure. And Sammy’s poem gets a double A+ this week. Excellent use of the info you found out about the meerkets. Mom was quite disappointed in her poem so attributed it to us. Pretty unfair, we think. Anyhoo, here’s the link to our poem: https://www.thecatonmyhead.com/not-real-cats/
Next week’s photo looks like it will be fun. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

  14. Teddy, we are so glad that you have happy with with all sorts of hiding places. We do wish we could have seen you in that cat tree cubbyhole. The biggest cat at our house is Toby, and he recently wedged himself in one of our cat tree’s cubbyholes and it took him some effort to get out, but he did it. Angel Sammy, your poem is purrfect! For years I have been intrigued by adorable meerkats and the social interactions they have amongst themselves. Purrs!

    • They have such wonderful relationships in the groups and I really hadn’t realized they were part of the mongoose family but they DO look a lot like them. My Mom has always loved seeing the colonies of meerkats at zoos!
