Friendly Fill-Ins on Friday

Here are this week’s sentence and I thought I’d be really SWEET and let Mom fill them in all by herself.    Nice huh?    Well, I like to treat her once in a while.   (hahaha)    Her words are in RED.

1. My favorite quote is “It’s not the years in your life that count – it’s the life in your years” (Abraham Lincoln).     NOTE:  I have so many favorites – this is my CURRENT favorite!

2. My favorite part of February is Valentine’s Day – we get all gussied up and go to a super nice restaurant and celebrate.

3. A little known fact about me is I was pigeon-toed when I was little and wore corrective shoes for 3 years.

4. Reading AND traveling (sorry – I just HAD to have two) is  (are)  the most rewarding experience in the world.

Thankful and Poetic Thursday

What?  It’s Thursday already?  My goodness…………..time sure is flying.   Thursday means Blog Hopping with Brian at his blog (link above) where we spend a little time focusing on what we are thankful for.   Want to join in?  Good – click the badge above and link up with us.

I’m thankful this week for not having snow to deal with when I’ve politely asked to be escorted outside for some fresh air.   I stick to the front porch if it’s snowing or HAS snowed…..if it’s raining or has rained – no biggie.  I can handle THAT kind of wet.   Mom says she is going to get me a raincoat……..I say – bring it on Mom but I will WIN the battle of putting a raincoat on me with NO PROBLEM.    I’ve already managed to avoid that sweater you got me for Christmas so a raincoat will be a piece of cake!

The other thing I do on Thursday is share with all of you the POEM that my brother Angel Sammy has crafted to share with those who enjoy poetry written from photos as inspiration.    He gives everyone a photo every week and a week later all poets get together here on my blog and SHARE.     I’m about to SHARE his email that I got last night from the Rainbow Bridge so you can read his poem……….if you’ve written one based on the photo please let us know so we can read it!

Hi Poetic Friends!   Greetings from the Bridge – ready to share poetry?

Here we are again – another week has gone by (here at the Bridge we don’t notice time – there is no time – it’s just peaceful and quiet PERIOD).     Last week I gave you a photo which my Mom found super fun because it brought back memories of her childhood (a very long time ago….haha) and I tried to write a poem that would match up to the photo.   Did you?  If so, let us know in comments so can read it OK?    Here’s the photo and my poem:

“Hop, Skip, Jump”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell       January 29, 2020

Some years ago when my Mom was a a young girl

She and her friends had jump ropes they would twirl

“Double dutch” with two ropes was twice as tough

And if you tripped and missed a step your friends made life rough!

Girls had their OWN jump ropes but the competitions were fun

When the ropes came out at recess the girls would run

To join the long line to take their turn to jump

And hope they’d not fall down on their well dressed rump!

Mom noticed the scarves some of the girls in this photo wore

Girls don’t wear them much now – just in days of yore………..

White socks were a must along with skirts and dresses

No shaved heads, mohawks, or purple hair in a girl’s tresses!

There were other fun things back then girls did with each other

Like jacks, hopscotch, paper dolls, and learning to cook with their mothers.

Life has changed so much – time has flown like the wind

But one thing is the same – kids deserve lots of fun with their friends.

 

My Mom says she remembers poodle skirts (not cat skirts????), saddle oxfords, matching knee socks with sweaters – sounds like it was kind of complicated back in those days.    Kids these days where almost whatever they want to and have SO many alternatives to jumping rope in their spare time but I’m with my Mom – HER days were the “GOOD OLD DAYS”………I can totally understand what she’s saying……………do you?

I have another photo for you to use as inspiration for NEXT Thursday’s Poetry Day……………….ready?

I’ll admit – this photo is for my Mom because she loves meerkats…..not that she’s ever KNOWN any mind you – she just thinks they are adorable and loves watching them at the zoo.    They are very social and stick together (almost like glue!) and take care of each other.     Qualities to admire!     Anyway, have some fun with this one – I know I will!

Teaser Tell All

Welcome to class students!   Time for us to spill the beans…….(not literally of course)!

When we started off with class yesterday we only had TWO students comment during the first 60 seconds so the Cheer Team only had TWO names to work into their cheer.   Needless to say they were happy.   Who were the FIRSTIES??

YAY FOR OUR TWO FIRSTIES!!! WOO HOO!

Both of you get one of our lovely FIRST COMMENTER badges this week………………..concatulations…………….!

I was one of only TWO First Commenters during the first minute of Teaser class on January 28, 2020!

THEN we waited———————–and waited—————————and our Graphics Department Supervisor Mom finally had to leave to get ready to go to the dentist so she was hoping someone would guess it before she left BUT she had to wait until she got home to find that indeed somebody HAD guessed it!     But first, here’s the photo from yesterday just to refresh your memory:

A pretty Spring kind of photo (and we wish it WAS Spring) which our Graphics Department provided and it is the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia.    Our Graphics Supervisor (ahem) and her husband have been there MANY times.    It’s a wonderful spot with sidewalk cafes, street artists and lots to see – art galleries, antique shops – a little bit of everything.     Would you like to know WHO guessed Charlottesville, Virginia first?????????????????????????????

Tuesday Teaser Class!

Greetings and Salutations Ding Dong Students – HAVE YOU COMMENTED YET??????

The report from our superb security team is that all is well on campus so let the class begin and THANK YOU Clowie and Company!

Last week as you all remember we had a TEASER WHOPPER.    Nobody guessed it and it was one of the toughest photos to figure out that we’ve EVER featured on Tuesday Teaser.    We’re not claiming that this week’s will be any EASIER, but we never know for sure.    I can tell you that our Graphics Department was in charge of procuring the photo for today so we can blame HER if there are any issues with the photo.    Tee Hee

I will STREEEETCH my imagination this week to figure out the photo!

First up we have our RULES and our BADGES to show you.    It’s important to know the rules and to follow them and hopefully we’ll be handing out all the badges tomorrow!

SPARKS and a Reminder

What exactly IS this Monday SPARK thing we do?   Well, most of you know that Annie of McGuffy’s Reader – who started SPARKS – was hacked and has been on an extended break from blogging although her idea to spread some inspiration on Monday of every week goes on.   Many of us who participated in her SPARKS Blog Hop and found value in sharing a thought on Monday continue doing that to hopefully give each other a “Monday boost” – perhaps something to think about to inspire us in the week ahead OR help us deal with something that’s on our mind.    Why not join us by sharing something that SPARKS you?   It might just start a spark in us too.

I saw a couple of fabulous quotes while looking and got excited about BOTH of them because I really believe in both thoughts but I had to choose one – and this is it!

If we’re honest we ALL must admit that we have had failures in our life – of one sort or another………but if we just pushed through whatever it was we were trying to do or trying to feel or trying to GET, we were winners.    I know the old saying “it’s not whether you win or lose but how you play the game” and that ties right into this.   Same thing.   Even if we lose we have tried and by doing so, we are winners as we’ve faced the challenge.    My Dad wanted me to always be a winner whatever I was doing – it was a lot of pressure – I wasn’t able to win everything – in fact I failed at many things – but I was able to learn that he would NOTICE if I had just tried my best.    Yes he still wanted me to win (!) but I knew and he knew I’d done the hard part of TRYING.
