Thursday again and time to be thankful…………..I have a pile of thankfuls today – and I also will share the poem I got from Angel Sammy for PART TWO of today’s post which will be Poetic Thursday. But being THANKFUL is first on my agenda and if you’d like to share what you are thankful for – just click the badge above and head to our host Brian’s blog to link up. We’d love to see your “thankfuls”!
One thankful I have is that my Mom has FINALLY finished hemming the latest quilt my Aunt Carol made for her. Took Mom a while – between everything else she does around here and her arthritis in her hands, it took longer than expected. But the quilt is a beauty………..I like it – it’s so SOFT!
Mom likes the backing material too – it’s a nice compliment to the bright squares on front. Mom took a photo from our foyer of the railing where just a FEW of the quilts my Aunt Carol made for her hang. The others are in other spots around our house – on the back of the couch, on the master bedroom bed and the guest room bed, in Mom’s office, in Dad’s office AND I have two baby quilts that I inherited from Angel Sammy too. My talented Aunt has decorated our house for many years with her pawsome talent. Anyway, THANK YOU AUNTIE CAROL!
I’m also thankful that after a dry spell of NOT wanting to go outside (maybe too hot, maybe the scent of bear and fox, maybe just because I didn’t FEEL like it!) I am again going outside. I seem to actually be afraid of wearing my harness for some reason nobody including me understands. So I’ve been out twice so far with no harness but both parents are tagging along keeping a TIGHT reign on my wandering.
As always I’m thankful that my friend Brian has a THANKFUL THURSDAY Hop he hosts because we can ALL talk about our thankfuls!
NEXT UP – Angel Sammy’s Poetic Thursday – I got the following email from him from the Rainbow Bridge last night………..

Greetings Friends and Poets!
Time for us to share our once a week poetic exchange. Did you use the photo I gave you last Thursday as inspiration? I hope you did and that you will let us know you wrote a poem for us to read – just let us know in comments. It’s so much fun to do a poem based on a photo – lots of you have written to tell Teddy that and he’s keeping me informed. That makes me HAPPY!
Here’s the photo that I gave you as inspiration for this week. My Mom loves this photo because it reminds her of (her words) “THE OLD DAYS”.
“My Weekly Treat”
Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell ©July 24, 2019
Every week after baseball practice I sit on this stool
My brother and the rest of the team go to the neighborhood pool
My favorite treat though isn’t getting all wet
It’s having a banana split – then I’m feeling “all set” !
I always ask Miss Ginny for extra nuts and whipped cream
All week long I have this great dream………..
I’m King of the Soda Fountain and Ginny fixes me a treat
Malteds, sundaes, shakes, and other things to eat
The burgers here are super and same for the fries
This place is heaven on earth – I tell no lies!
Mom always wonders why on Thursday night at dinner
She has to force me to eat and swears that I look thinner
The truth is I’m up to my eyeballs in soda fountain delights
Then I eat her dinner just to please her and have a stomach ache all night!
Soda fountains were big back in my Mom’s day and they were always cool inside and smelled delicious from the minute you walked in the door. There’s an old fashioned ice cream place in our town and one of Mom’s favorite things is once in a great while to treat herself with a dose of happy memories by having a banana split – the REAL deal!
Now I have a new photo for you to think about and come up with a poem to share for NEXT Thursday.
Yikes…….that’s a whole lot of walking woofies! Will be fun to do a poem about this photo don’t you think? Do your best……………then come here and share…………..I’ll be super proud of you especially if you’ve never tried to write a poem before…………YOU CAN DO IT.
Have a great week friends…..I’ll see you again next week….want to feel good? HUG SOMEONE!
Love, Angel Sammy

Thank you Angel Sammy……..I love seeing you every week. Please keep watch over me so I don’t do anything to disappoint Mom and Dad!

Hi gang….glad you like my Auntie’s quilting work – she’s something else (an artist maybe?) isn’t she. Mom has quilts all over the place made by her sister and I’m one of those who benefits from all those comfy, cozy quilts. Thanks for stopping by…!!

Beautiful quilt! And Motor Mommy says it didn’t take your mom long at all to do that hemming. And she can testify as to how pretty all those quilts are in your home! Cool poem, Angel Sammy, about the soda shop. And so cool that there’s one in your pawrents’ neighborhood, so they can visit once in a while. Wow, you have to wonder what the story is with all those “walking woofies”! Have fun outside, Teddy….you really should consider wearing that harness, you know! Safety first, my furriend!

Mom says we’ll try using my old strappy harness instead of the jacket one and see if that works. I know when my Mom and Dad were in Central Park in NYC many years ago they saw a dog-walker with about 15 dogs on leashes – it was hilarious but that’s what they do!

Something scared you Teddy, or there is a place on the harness that hurts now, maybe? It has to be the harness, surely? Is there a bump or bite on you where the harness lays next to your skin? Feel better about it sweet Teddy. Your mom and dad are with you every second.

I was scared by what I THOUGHT was my harness a few weeks ago – Mom and I were out and she was using the “retractable” leash….she had to put it down for a second while we were walking and I decided at that moment to run – well that noisy plastic retractable leash thing was running right behind me – it kept up with me – I couldn’t get far away from it – it was chasing me !! Well, that’s what I thought anyway. I ran and ran and my Mom ran after me and finally I stopped (and of course the noise stopped too) – she picked me up and hugged me and took me back inside and immediately threw away that retractable thing. She uses only regular leashes now that don’t make noise if I run with it on. Anyway, that could be what’s going on with me but Mom says I MUST wear a harness outside so we’re going to try using one of my OLD harnesses which isn’t a “jacket” style and see if that works with my old regular leash. If she tries to put the jacket on me I run away so it’s the only solution. I’ll TRY to cooperate!!!!!!!!!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh my stars above…Teddy Aunt Carol’s artistic
quilt has almost rendered me speechless. The colors breathtaking and the display over the rail
is better than any Picasso!! I hear you on the handhemming…it is a grueling task.
I loved your poem and the picture brought back so many childhood memories. Loved it.
Next week’s made me giggle with glee

Hi Miss Cecilia! You and my Auntie are both grand quilters and my Mom is jealous of that amazing talent believe me. She was happy to finish hemming – you know how grueling that is. Mom thought putting quilts over the railing would be a fun way to show off her collection – she rotates them every week too – moving them from place to place so she, Dad, and visitors can see all of them in different spots. This new one is destined for the living room couch this weekend. We enjoyed your poem today too – it was fun to hear a “real” memory relating to a soda fountain AND a first date!

Sammy always comes up with a great poem and it seems your Aunt is equally talented with quilts. I’m sorry about your mom’s arthritis. Tell her to try to avoid milk, sugar and gluten for a week and see if that helps.

I think my Mom would rather hurt than give that stuff up (just kidding…….). She loves milk, doesn’t really have sugar normally, but gluten – yep. Maybe she can do a little behavior modification???

Hi Gang! Love your Haiku – I’m sure the soda fountain serves that stuff and I’m also sure you guys can hop up on the stool (or even better on the counter!) and get your TREEEEETZ! Guess what – Mom did check my harnesses and nothing was there but all of a sudden today I decided I’ll wear them again and while Mom was at the dentist, Dad took me out for a walkabout WITH my harness – NO PROBLEM!! YAY! Maybe I was just “testing the waters” to see if they would LET me go outside without it (don’t tell them I said that though).
Glad you like my Auntie Carol’s latest quilt…………she’s DA BOMB when it comes to qulting!

OMC! How lovely is that quilt! I have one on my bed made for our wedding, 32 years ago…today, actually:)
And before we got it, our friend won first prize with it at her county fair. So we have a quilt with many stories to tell! Our friend also has sever rheumatoid artritis and had to go on disability because of that, but she still quilts…albeit slowy…
Some of te residents where I work have gotten lap quilts as gifts from volunteers, they brighten up the ‘landscape’ a lot:)
That poem is great! And we too have memories of going to the ice cream parlours of eons ago.
Did I see one of the overlook twin with all those doggies?? Or maybe a cousin of theirs? MOL!

Quilts are special aren’t they….my Mom has a quilt that HER Mom got as a wedding gift 73 years ago. It’s kind of falling apart but it’s a special treasure. We imagine that old quilts would have a lot of stories to tell since they have been part of a family usually for many years. Pretty cool! I’m glad your friend is still quilting even with bad arthritis…..when you love something you just can’t give it up.

Oh, those quilts are gorgeous! I’m so glad you get to enjoy the softness of cozy quilts, Teddy. Both my kitties and myself love sewn beauties like these, though I have no sewing skills myself. I did not inherit that from my mom. Angel Sammy, this photo and your poem are both wonderfully nostalgic. I’m with your mom, though, and I think banana splits are the best part. Yum! Purrs!

We are so fortunate that my Mom’s sister is such an amazing quilt artist. We have an “art gallery” full of them and consider them works of art like paintings. Glad you liked the soda fountain poem – it was a wonderful reminder for my Mom that hometown places like this were “OK” to go to when you were a kid on your own. These days there are very few places parents can feel comfortable letting kids go by themselves but the soda fountain was IT !
