Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday!   A big thanks to our buddy Brian for having this fabulous Hop which allows us to share each week what we’re thankful for.   Want to join in?   Click the badge above and link up to share.

This week I’m thankful that we haven’t had any visiting bears even though we did have a visiting fox the other night who insisted on screaming loud enough to wake me and my Mom and Dad up at midnight.    It didn’t last long – either it got what it was hunting or a bigger predator chased IT away!    We aren’t so sure we like living in a wildlife sanctuary (hahaha) – but we do have a lot of things out there and I guess I never really thought about it but we see:  groundhogs, skunks, deer, fox, flying squirrels, owls, hawks, vultures, chipmunks, squirrels, snakes, and all kinds of birds.   Just a lot of activity mostly down in our woods where you expect a lot of animals to live.    Bears only twice in 23 years.   So yes I’m thankful that while there are a lot of cool animals, they aren’t being aggressive.    Our last bear was minding his own business in fact!

I’m also thankful I got Angel Sammy’s poem for the week……………..here it is:

It’s Time For Poetry Sharing!

Hello poetic friends……………did you write a poem this week?   Good!  Make sure and let us know you did in our comments here so we can read it.    If anyone new is tuning in, we share poetry every Thursday – poems we have written that were inspired by photos that I give you to THINK about all week before we share on Thursdays.    Give it a whirl.   Photos inspire all kinds of creative poetry!

Never written poetry before?  Well, that doesn’t mean you can’t…..you might like it.   Poems don’t even have to rhyme – they just need to stir someone’s imagination when they read it.   When you see a photo of ANYTHING, your mind tells you something about it whether it be good, bad, funny, sad – you feel different things that are easily converted into WORDS.    That’s a poem!

Here’s the photo I gave you last week followed by MY poem…………..then I’ll show you the photo I have for you to use for NEXT Thursday’s Poetry Day.

“Wearing Dinner”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      ©July 17, 2019

YIKES, I hope the plastic sheet is on the floor

WOOPS I splashed some on the door

UHOH I’ve got it in my hair

EEEK I think it’s gone everywhere!

YAY I can wear my bowl like a hat

OH BOY Mom’s face got red at that!

“Basketti” is the funnest thing to eat

Tasty red sauce from my head to my feet

The only bad thing about “basketti”

Is that I’ll have a bath before I’m ready!

Baths at night are best when I put on my jammies

After Mom’s cleaned the food out from my nooks and crannies.

Tomorrow morning we’ll start over again

When I dribble my cereal milk down my chin!!!

There’s just no doubt that babies have FUN when they eat.    This little kid sure had a blast with his “basketti” didn’t he.   His Mom probably spent some time getting the mess cleared up but know what?   She didn’t mind a BIT!   It’s what Moms do.    I know when I was a kitten once in a while I’d wind up with food on my nose or paw or chin and Mom never minded cleaning me up and I made sure to thank her with lots of love in my eyes!

Now here’s your photo for next week and I hope you will join us by writing a poem to fit this photo………………………c’mon you can do it………………

My Mom loves this photo.    She says it brings back some great memories.    Waiting for an ice cream sundae?   Malted?   Fountain cherry coke?    Mom says she loved them all.

So – it’s a date – I’ll be back next week with MY poem – and I hope you will be here with yours to share…………………….until then – have a happy week!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Your Forever Friend and Poet, Angel Sammy

Thank you brother Sammy……………….I miss you even though I never knew you…………………hope everything is good at the Rainbow Bridge…………………………..

  2. Teddy, tell your mommy she reminded my mommy of cherry cokes and vanilla coke…even chocolate coke. Those were the three the soda fountain the drug store made for us kids.

  3. It’s very interesting having all the wildlife until they decide they want to move inside! We couldn’t keep all the critters out of the house on the Tiny Ten. I really felt like we were just “renting” from them!
We had basketti and meatballs last night… ShortsSandalsNoSocks got home just in time for a cold Yuengling and dinner. We didn’t get that messy with the basketti but it is very hard to keep it off the chin and not slop it around.

The picture for next week reminds me so much of the dime-store counter in the little town where I grew up. Had many a french fry there and a chocolate scoop of ice cream with marshmallow cream on top in a frosty metal dish!

    • Glad you and SSNS had basketti and meatballs for his “coming home” dinner last night and as long as you didn’t have a food fight no way could you look like this little guy did! HAHAHA I can’t remember my Mom ever having to clean me up at the dinner table – I can remember my Dad always saying “eat all your dinner and remember there are starving kids in China” and I managed never to say back to him “then send this stuff over there because I don’t want it!!!”……hahaha The soda fountain photo is great isn’t it? I got a Cherry Coke, ‘nana split, and as I recall our soda fountain had a grill at one end and they made the BEST burgers EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR!

    The all said “Basketti”
    So funnn

  5. I love Angel Sammy’s poem- so fun 🙂 Next week’s photos brings back memories. When I was at my mom’s house in the next town over, her elderly neighbor used to take me for a sundae to the drug store that had a food counter like this. Have a great day! XO

  6. That was such a fun poem! Hey Teddy, I’m glad the bears seemed to move out of your neck of the woods, they should have taken the fox with them. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!

    • Thanks for hosting the Hop Brian – we’re glad that the bear is gone but not convinced we won’t see him again…………I do wish the foxes would take a hike though – they scream at night and we always hope he hasn’t got a cat cornered somewhere.

    • That’s a GREAT haiku for “sketti” ! This little kid looks kinda like he’s saying “uhoh” but it’s too late – he’s wearing his dinner already. Yep we have a complete zoo outside our doors and in fact lately I’ve been spending more time INSIDE than OUTSIDE. Mom’s not sure if it’s the heat or the vicious animals that have me boxed in!

Have a super duper weekend…………..and thanks for pawticipating in poetry day……..it’s tons of fun……….

  10. Wow, that is an incredible number of different animals living in your neck of the woods, Teddy. Some are pretty scary. Our squirrels leap really far, so it is as if they can fly, but we have never seen a real flying squirrel. Sammy, your poem is fabulous. That is exactly what our mom called spaghetti when she was a kid. She did right a poem and here is the link: https://www.thecatonmyhead.com/beware-of-kids/

    • Your Mom wrote a totally fabulous poem for the photo this week – it was a super fun photo and we hope next week will be a ton of fun too. Our neighbor reported he’d seen a flying squirrel in their tree too – they seem to enjoy “borrowing” birdboxes for their homes. We had a wooden birdhouse in a tree in our backyard a few years ago and it was occupied by a flying squirrel. They are very cute little guys!

  11. You have your own personal zoo to watch outside your house, Teddy! We’ve had some foxes in our yard, but mainly because we live near a creek where they live. The scariest part is that the foxes once cornered the neighbor cat under a car in the middle of the night when they had a baby/kit with them. Luckily, the neighbor cat’s mom heard the commotion and rescued him. Angel Sammy, this photo and your poem remind me of when I worked as a babysitter all throughout high school and college. There was lots of food being worn as clothes, that’s for sure!

    • HA! My Mom has similar memories of babysitting – lots of food on walls, floors and heads! Mom and Dad’s first cat here – Eddy – was corned on the deck railing here in the middle of the night by two foxes – Mom and Dad rescued him and it was his last “outside” day! It’s lovely to see wildlife but scary too.
