Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Thankfully it’s Thankful Thursday!    Remember you can join in this Blog Hop by just clicking the badge above and entering your link at Brian’s place.   We all share our thankfuls.    We must say first on our minds is being thankful that although we’ve been under severe storm watches almost every day for the past week, so far other than some high wind and heavy rain we have NOT had anything approaching “scary” like some other parts of the country are experiencing.    We’re also up on a hill so there’s no danger of flooding.    We sure do wish that the weather in the country would QUIET DOWN.    Everyone is on overload preparing or dealing with consequences of dangerous weather.   We send hugs of support to everyone who is having WAY bigger problems than we are.    Ann of Zoolatry sent out this awesome badge for anyone who wants to show they care to post…………we just love it.

The other thing we like to do on Thursdays in addition to Brian’s Hop is share the email we get from our Angel Sammy every week which contains his poem based on the photo he gives us to use as inspiration.   Thursday is the BIG DAY for that.    Here’s what we received from him via the Rainbow Bridge wifi !

Hello From The Bridge Poetry Fans!

Let’s have some poetic fun shall we?    Did you write a poem using the photo I gave you last Thursday as our “launch pad” ??   I did and if you did, let us know in comments here so we can come see your work.   Such fun to see how creative you all are and also fun to see someone who hasn’t participated in this every week give it a try.   BRAVO!   Going outside your comfort zone is good for you sometimes.

Here’s the photo I gave you LAST Thursday to use – followed by my poem:

“Now You See It….Now You Don’t”

Poem by Angel Sammy Kimmell      May 29, 2019©

Is that a fly on the canvas that I see?

It’s a tiny black dot – at least to me……

I’ve tried to see SOMETHING on this field of white

I certainly hope I’m not losing my sight!

Maybe the canvases are subtly shaded?

Maybe my love of art is becoming jaded?

Perhaps it’s an eye test….and if so I have flunked

Or candid camera maybe and we’re being punked!

Whatever is going on I’m afraid I am lost

Let’s go get a drink – I don’t care what it costs!

I really think this photo is great on many levels.    My Mom has been to exhibits of modern art before and other private art shows and seen similar canvases to these being sold for THOUSANDS of dollars.    She once asked an artist with a totally black canvas for sale for big bucks what they had in mind when they painted it.   The answer was “it’s whatever you want it to be”.     Well, my Mom did oil painting for years and there was never any doubt what the paintings were – landscapes, architectural studies, still life, etc. and perhaps that was BORING for the beholder but she felt a lot more comfortable KNOWING what it was.    Anyway, we do think this is a cute photo and can’t wait to see what YOU wrote today!

For next Thursday’s Poetry sharing……….I found another interesting photo for you to use for inspiration……….at least I think it is…………..

Oh yeah……………Mom says this reminds her of a few of her experiences at amusement parks!     I imagine we’ll have some good poems next week don’t you?

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Until next Thursday – be happy, be kind, and remember we at the Rainbow Bridge are watching out for you……

Love, Angel Sammy

Thank you Angel Sammy.    You can’t imagine how much I look forward to your Poems every week…………………..and I know you are looking out for us ALL THE TIME.

  1. As you know, I don’t participate in the poetry posts (mainly because neither my human nor I are poetically inclined). But I just want to say, the kid in the plaid shirt – that’s basically my human, even today, when she is not in any way, shape or form a kid!

    • Ditto for me…….I REALLY don’t like most rides in amusement parks and never did even as a kid…..something about that sense of being out of control most of the time I think! LOL

  2. oh yeah that screams for a drink!!! sometimes we feel like stupids when we can not discover the art or the meaning in something… while the (f)artist gets a laughing fit, because the meaning was to kid you LOL

    • I am pretty sure that’s what this artist had in mind – a big joke for Candid Camera……actually sometimes there are some pretty cool patterns if you stand right up close at what looks like a blank canvas. However I always painted THINGS that were totally visible! I might not have been that good but at least people KNEW what they were seeing! LOL

  3. Well, gosh, my Motor Mommy completely missed that picture from last week. (Good help is so hard to find…!!)
Great poem again this week, Angel Sammy. And yes, Teddy, we are so fortunate to have had quiet weather. We certainly are thinking of those who are dealing with loss in other parts of our country.

    • We feel bad complaining about the weather but I think it’s just the uncertainty – every day we’re told there’s a possibility of hail and strong winds and then……..nothing………not complaining about that but we wish the weather pattern would CHANGE!!!!! LOL

  4. I think it is nicer as you said above to at least know what you are seeing. I think the artist does get a big old laugh. I enjoyed Angel Sammy’s poem. I think that art would make me want to eat a big bowl of vanilla ice cream! I am glad you have been safe from the bad weather. Last week the storms and a tornado hit Jefferson City and the little town we lived in when we were on the Tiny Ten. The house is okay but they a lot of clean up.

    • Oh Pix I wondered about that tornado in Jefferson City and meant to ask you about it….I’m so glad “the kids” didn’t have any house damage but I’m sure with all the trees, etc. they had a lot to clean up. Glad you liked this week’s photo from Angel Sammy and next week ought to be a real “pip” too!!!!!

  6. That was an excellent poem. I just don’t understand modern art like this, I prefer oil paintings like your mom paints. Next week’s photo looks like fun. Have a great day! XO

    • Oh that poem rocks. A blank canvas can be ANYTHING the artist wants it to be and that’s part of the excitement. I always liked the permanence of oils – I’d start a painting and know that it wasn’t easily changed so I MADE it into something that worked. I wasn’t a “risk taker” when I painted – I didn’t go outside the box – my art teacher said I might be a little too “rigid” and wanted me to promise that one day I’d get a HUGE CANVAS and go crazy with it. Generally I used 8×10 or 12×14 canvases. Anyway, I have some of my favorite paintings still but so many I gave away or were sold through the years……….like my writing it’s something that’s fun to look back on. These days blogging and my Teddy boy are my world. But that will always be a part of me………………….Thanks for doing a poem this week – how about another one next week for the roller coaster and that poor little guy in the front seat????

  8. Boy that kid in the plaid shirt…that spoke to ME too. I am terrified of the ferris wheel. When that sucker stops at the top and it rocks…and all there is to keep me from hitting the ground is a wooden bar that I about made hand marks into from my grip…I can’t wait to get off. I have always hated that thing. Oddly, I like the rollercoaster.

    • I think we all have our “amusement park nemesis” – I know people who are terrified of ALL rides, or even the “Fun House”…..! These days I think the “House of Mirrors” would scare me the most though – EEEEEEEEK!

  9. Our purrs and prayers are with all those affected by inclement weather. We wish Mother Nature would stop being so fickle. Angel Sammy, your poem is so purrfect for this blank canvas image. I quite enjoyed your references about candid cameras and being punked. Next week’s photo will be just as fun, even though this here human is terrified of roller coasters!

    • I am not a fan of roller coasters either – I love amusement parks though. Nice to be in a magical world for a while before going back to reality! We loved your poem this week too – Angel Sammy has picked some great photos lately hasn’t he??? HAPPY FRIDAY!

  10. We always like your poems, Sammy. You are the master, and we are all just apprentices. Mom just did an itty bitty haiku. She’s not that much into modern art. She likes the impressionists. Next week’s photo will be fun. Love and hugs to all. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

    • We love haiku – and Mom says it’s a lot of fun to pack some punch in a few words – that’s why she loves that form. Anyway, thanks for being poetry buddies with us!

  11. Dad feels that works such as this are simply an artist who is so full of their selves that they fell that any dreck they put out is worthy. We agree with Dad and you so lets get a big nippy cocktail and a lemon bubbly water fur our Dad.

    • I’ve never heard of it but after watching 15 minutes of it I can tell it’s one I “should” have seen…..I’m going to watch the rest of it later today when things are quiet around here. I have a feeling I’m going to love it. Thanks for sending the link Csilla! ❤
