Bakin’ With Bacon For Christmas!

Standard

OK My Fellow Baconians!    Your King gave you some ideas for Thanksgiving and NOW – as we are a mere FOUR weeks away from Christmas – I will be giving you some ideas for FUN Christmas goodies involving bacon!

This first one is an appetizer that is ridiculously easy to make and maybe sounds a little weird but let me tell you – when they are so tasty that your Kitchen Staff eats them all up the minute they are ready then has to go back to the ROYAL GROCERY STORE to purchase two more jars of maraschino cherries – they MUST be good!

Bacon-Wrapped Cherries

Ingredients:

  • 36 maraschino cherries, stemmed, drained and juice reserved
  • 18 slices bacon slices, halved 36 toothpicks

Directions:

  1. Set oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven’s broiler.
  2. Wrap each cherry with a bacon half, secure with toothpick and arrange on baking sheet. Drizzle reserved cherry juice over wrapped cherries.
  3. Broil in preheated oven until bacon is crisped to your liking, 3 to 10 minutes.

EASY?   Oh yeah……..well I thought you might like an incredibly EASY recipe to start this Christmas extravaganza with………..and I think you will be glad I did!

Yes indeed I did and plenty of it!

You’ve got that right!

So over the next few weeks I’ll find some more fun recipes for baconized goodies you might like to serve to your holiday guests.   It won’t be long now before you have surprise drop-in guests and they don’t come any more simple than this recipe and I’ll try to find OTHER “easies” for you too!

It’s the least I can do for my loyal subjects………….provide you with yummy foodables right??

Until next week…………….Hugs, King Teddy

  1. Who would have ever thought of THAT combination!!? But, obviously, since the kitchen “staff” ate all of them the first time and had to make the dreaded return trip to the grocery, they must be good!

  2. I used to grab the jar of maraschino cherries out of the fridge and eat them like peanuts. I could eat a whole jar. My Mom would get so mad at me! I’m thinking these look tasty but I’m also thinking the oven would be a mess and I hate to even think about cleaning the oven! Our new stove has some crazy self cleaning deal where you put water in the bottom and hit self clean… befuddles me. Ibis is screaming and the Sandhills have joined in! Good Morning, Virginieeeeeeeeeeee!

    • HAHAHA……..Ibis and Sandhills perhaps thinking they are going to start a CHOIR there in your development! I think the Ibis is a girl – her name is Iris and she’s lookin’ for a “special someone”……!!! About the cherries – I used to do that SAME THING with the jar of cherries. So delicious…..I think maybe you could avoid the mess in the oven by putting foil over top. The bacon would still cook – not as fast though. HOWEVER, David frequently reminds me that when you get a self cleaning oven (which we have too) we’re not supposed to THINK about messes……………we just cook then clean. The self-cleaning thing is one of those little mechanical miracles that we should USE and not just think about it. LOL We’ve had our new wall ovens for almost 2 years and I’ve avoided the self cleaning thing this whole time. I’m thinking I’m going to be VERY BRAVE after I cook the Christmas turkey in there this year! YEP – I think I will!!!

  3. That sounds tasty. I know my hubby would love those. I just remembered I still have your puzzle from last week to finish before tomorrow. Have a nice day! XO

    • Oh YES – I think it would be perfect for Santa night – she should make some before then too just because they are so delicious (my Mom says they are wonderful with a glass of Prosecco whatever that is!).

  4. Cherries and bacon!??? What could be better than that? Mom will probably drink all the cherry juice, before she gets to drizzle it on though…… She’s obsessed like that.

    • My Mom says she used to LOVE sneaking cherries from the jar in the refrigerator but her Mom KNEW she was the culprit….still, let me just say that Mom and Dad both think cherries and bacon are an AMAZING combination. I wouldn’t mind trying that one myself!

    • OH NOOOOOOOOOOO! Say it isn’t so! No bacon for Thanksgiving Day breakfast? Well, I suppose it was STILL special because the family was there together so even though you were baconless you were all there!

  6. My human is not so sure about combining bacon with maraschino cherries… but I have awesome news! Not only did I get turkey on Thanksgiving, I got BACON at the cat show! Which is a good thing because my human ran out of cat treats to keep me doing High Fives and handshakes! MOL! But I definitely had a bonus week, didn’t I?

    • Summer! You scored BACON and TURKEY in the same week? That’s amazing! It’s EPIC in fact. I know what you’re saying about cherries and bacon together but (and I have to take my Mom’s word for it) the sweet/salt combination thing is BEYOND GOOD. What’s really amazing is that they had bacon at the cat show because you NEVER get that – Maybe it’s Santa’s way of telling you this is going to be a BONUS year for you since you’ve been SO GOOD!

  7. Teddy, we really are not sure about this recipe… Mom had a great appetizers for Thanksgiving made with prosciutto, but bacon could easily be substituted. She’ll send it to Mom Pam. • It sounds like a VERY weird thing to eat but it’s absolutely incedible (Mom says). So simple – a cherry wrapped in bacon – but it’s that salty/sweet combo thing and it’s just a little bite on a toothpick – EASY PEASY. Mom would love that recipe you describe with the prosciutto!
