Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday………well, it will be a happy Thursday for some and a scary Thursday for others.   Hurricane Florence will be hitting the Eastern Shore of North Carolina, Southern Virginia and South Carolina today some time and we are praying that it loses some of its’ punch before it arrives and that it fizzles out FASTER than some think it will.    We will be VERY THANKFUL if Florence is not as scary or dangerous as it appears it might be now.   You never know with storms – they are persnickety and change their mind quickly.    For all of you who are bracing for the weather – prayers are coming your way.

The other thing we do on Thursdays around here is enjoy Angel Sammy’s Poetic Thursday fun.    Every week he gives us a photo to write a poem about – we write something that the photo makes us think about or that we notice in the photo or how we FEEL when we see the photo.   Lots of fun for sure – hope you wrote one this week that you can share with us – that will make Angel Sammy (and us) happy!

Here’s the email I got from him at the Rainbow Bridge this morning……………………………

♥♥♥

It’s Poetic Thursday!

I hope today finds all of you poets ready to share what you wrote this past week!    All of us Angels have had a busy week……..we had a lot of friends arriving at the Bridge sadly…..like our friends Miles and Basil and I’m sure many others as well.    We get very busy on the Welcoming Committee sometimes and we’re always happy to see our old friends but SAD for their families.   Rest assured – they are in good hands here and will be visiting back with you as soon as they have their wings.

Here’s last week’s photo that I gave all of you to use for inspiration – AND my poem follows!

“The Thinking Bench”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell      September 12, 2018

Along the path you’re sure to find

A spot providing peace of mind

A place to sit and dream and think

Or have a sandwich and cold drink

To consider your day and where it will go

In life’s fast pace it’s a place to go slow

Sometimes the only sound is the call of birds

A welcome respite from harsh voices and loud words

The muffled sound of leaves falling through the trees

The scent of chimney smoke drifting on the gentle breeze

Life’s cares slow down, or at least become small

On the private oasis of my bench in the Fall………….

When I was still living with my family before I came to the Bridge, one of my favorite things was to sit on the bench in the woods with my Mom or Dad and just watch and listen……sometimes I would be so relaxed I’d just fall asleep (which always made my humans giggle).   The smells of the woods and sound of the birds always brought peace to us.    I am so happy to see that Teddy has taken up that practice recently.    Mom will sit down and he will hop up and sit but he’s still young and restless so doesn’t stay long – as he gets older he will learn those little moments are to be treasured and will be remembered one day just as I remember them now.

I hope you have a poem to share with us?  If you do, just give us your link in comments here – so we can stop by and read your poem!     I have a NEW photo for you for NEXT Thursday.   I hope you get inspired by it……….

Thanks for joining me again for some poetry on Thursday.   I hope to see you here next week………………..and in the meantime, if you are in the path of a storm, hang on tight…….the Angels are working to keep you safe………….

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Sammy

Thank you Angel Sammy………………that was fun as always.   I’m glad you know that I sit with Mom on the bench in the woods like you used to do……………Mom says the only thing better than having me there with her in the woods is if she could be with BOTH OF US……..we know you’re there in spirit though!

See you next Thursday!

I see you there Angel Sammy

Love, Teddy

  1. oh that was super sweet… we all need such a thinking bench and even when it exists only in our minds… we need a place to take a deep breath and to find back to our inner balance before we jump back to daily stuff…

  2. I love it when my bipeds sit out on our garden bench and relax. It’s also lovely when we come across a convenient bench on our walks.

I hope Florence is kinder than expected.

    • It appears that Florence will be kinder to US but not so nice to those south of us………..! I think benches are great – my Mom and I have a nice time resting on the one down in our woods….yesterday we had a buck come within about 15 feet of us – we stayed SUPER STILL……!! 🙂

  4. Nature is both maid and master of us all, and I hope that she is kind to all those that are in the path of this storm. From summer comes fall and a chance to enjoy natures beauty, and such sweet words and dreams and thoughts that come to pass, and the places we find sanctuary and pleasure, like the woods.
Toodle pips and thankful purrs, for all that we have, no matter how small…

    • Lovely thought ERin………nature is amazing not just in her beauty but in her majesty and power which we sometimes get in the form of a storm or other weather event. She’s a sheep or a lioness at times; unpredictable and surprising…..but then who doesn’t like to be “kept on their toes” ?? Life is more interesting because Mother Nature changes her mind frequently.

  5. Teddy, that last photo looks as if you are intently listening messages Sammy is sending from the RB. Another great poem from Sammy. It reminded me of when I used to sit on a bench in our backyard with now angel, Madison. Unfortunately, that bench totally fell to pieces this spring. We went with a haiku again today. If anyone wants to read it, here’s the link: http://thecatonmyhead.com/i-hate-waiting/

    • Loved your haiku – your Mom definitely has a knack for haiku. Lots of punch in few words. I quite often listen to Sammy’s advice and guidance and Mom can tell when I’m doing that. I think once all of your construction is finished and you have your yard back in order that your Mom should get another garden bench to sit on….summers’ eves, fall afternoons – there’s something PERFECT about a garden bench!

  6. Don’t know why but brought tears to my eyes when Sammy was remembering in the woods and falling asleep on the bench and mom and dad laughing. Such a heart warming memory. Hugs and Purrs to you all. x

    • Sammy was a special guy…..in some ways more human than kitty cat. He seemed to have an “old soul” as my Mom says. There were times when their eyes would lock and it was like he was soaking up as much love to take with him one day when he went to the Bridge as he could absorb. He definitely got it too! Mom and I have a special thing too and I know she loves me as much as she loved Sammy – which is a pretty swell feeling indeed!!!

  7. What a wonderful poem Angel Sammy! How is Purrince Siddhartha Henry doing there? Please tell him I love him & miss him & look at his photos daily.
As for BellaDharma she is settling in slowly. She was so ‘shut down’; but every day I see a tiny improvement. She wants to try her paw at a poem, so here goes angel Sammy & Teddy!

    “THE Lonely Bench

Me has sat on such a bench
    at leest inn me mind.
    Locked inn a room
    fur hours at a time.
    Lonelee so lonelee
    me thott mee wuld die.
    An then Lady Meowy
    came to see me
an told me her bench was emptee too…
    So mee went with her
    an THE bench is not
    a lonely room anymore…
Me life is sunshine an purrty blue.”

  8. Beautiful poem. Mom thinks that bench has heard many a good tale. Stay safe from the storm if it heads your way.

    • I bet that bench has experienced tears, laughs, loneliness, love, hugs – just about everything including a good old fashioned “THINK”. Mom does that a lot on our bench – just sits and thinks.

    • Ol’ Flo was downgraded again but even if winds aren’t as fierce, the rain Flo is bringing is going to be the biggest problem with really bad flooding. Hoping for the best – there will be a lot of loss with this one.

    • It was downgraded AGAIN overnight to a Cat 1 but it still carries a whole lot of WET with it – I guess flooding will be the biggie……..and we certainly are hoping that EVERYONE will be alright.

  9. Well, we are not feeling too creative this evening, so we will leave one of the Human’s favorite Robert Frost poems here (don’t worry–it’s REAL short). We thought of it when we saw your picture tonight. She loves it soooooo much and she used to teach it to her high school juniors but then she decided they were too young to ‘get’ it. We think your Human and Sammy will understand–you might still have a little growing up to do:

    Nothing Gold Can Stay

    Nature’s first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leaf’s a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

    • That poem is a beauty – thanks for sharing it Spitty. Time moves on indeed and we have to accept that things change and move on. I guess the BEST thing is that the cycle will begin again…..and again…….and that’s life.

Hugs and thanks for coming to Angel Sammy’s Poetry Day!

  10. I’m so sorry we’re so late to visit! We’re sending our purrs and prayers to all those affected by Hurricane Florence. May all humans and animals remain safe. Angel Sammy, we thoroughly enjoyed this week’s photo, and your profound poem to go with it! Now we can’t wait to get started on next week’s. Purrs!

    • You did such a GREAT story-poem this week for Angel Sammy’s photo – and next week’s photo is such a pretty one isn’t it? Story time with Mom by candlelight…… We are hoping that Hurricane Florence stops battering poor NC with so much rain….it’s just awful. We are also hoping that storm season passes quickly without any more really devastating storms. It’s just SCARY.
