Thankful and Poetic Thursday

It’s Double Post Day For Me!  THANKFUL and POETIC all in one!

First up today I want to join Brian’s THANKFUL THURSDAY Hop.   You can too in fact if you click his badge and fill out the LINKY FORM – you can become part of this fun Hop where we tell the world what we are thankful for.    For one thing I’m thankful to have heard that the two kitties you were trying to help find a FOREVER for – Pingo and Polo – are in fact fine and have a new home so they will be safe.   Thank heavens for people who step up and help in times like this.   We hope you will give us all the details Brian but we heard things were OK for the boys and that TRULY made me more thankful than I can say.    I’m also thankful that my Mom and Dad are being so patient with me as I try out my newest method of trying to stay outside LONGER than they want me to.   What am I talking about?   Well as you all know I go out only on a harness and leash and only if one or both of my parents are with me snoopervising.   Sometimes they will let me just go under my little garden tree and SIT – without them holding my leash.   I’ll stay there for 15-20 minutes or MORE while they sit close by on the front porch.    If they decide they want to come in before I’m ready to come in I will NOT NOT NOT NOT mind my Mom when she calls me to come out from under my tree.   NO I WILL NOT.   In fact, when she reaches under to get my leash I go LIMP.   TOTALLY LIMP.   A twenty pound totally limp cat weighs at least twice that (hahahahahaha).   I don’t cooperate in the slightest and in fact I WHINE like a little kid when she pulls on my leash and lie there like a limp dishrag.   Sooner or later she (or Dad) has to crawl on the dirt to get to me under the little tree (not easy for two old people!) and even then it’s a real PAIN to try to pick my 20 lbs. of LIMP up and carry me up to the front door.   YES I’M BEING STUBBORN.    It’s what I am.   (insert evil giggle here).

I’m thankful Angel Sammy didn’t let me or you down because I did hear from him overnight with his poem and message for today so TAKE IT AWAY ANGEL SAMMY!

Hello Friends!  It’s time for poetry!

I look forward to Thursdays because I really do love playing this game we play with me giving you a photo and a week to study the photo and figure out what kind of poem you will write to share today with everyone.   I have to be honest – I usually write my poem at the last minute – just before I transmit it from my laptop via wifi at the Bridge down to Teddy.    I do better with “top of my head” poem writing.   I think I got that from my Mom.   When she was writing her mystery novel some years ago that’s how she wrote it – top of the head with no prior plan – just WHATEVER FELT RIGHT.   I hope you are joining in the fun and you have a way that works for you when writing a poem!    Just remember to share with us – in our comments with your link OR your poem itself.

Here’s the photo I gave you last week to write about and share today:

I just love this artwork.   My Mom says she and her brother would hop in a rain puddle no matter whether they had raincoats and boots on or not.   It was just what kids did.   The puddle calls to you and you OBEY!    This little boy (or girl) in the photo is having a blast.   Puddles are made for that.   Here’s my poem based on this photo:

“Puddle Dancing”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell      August 8, 2018

Off the school bus and heading home

Short way to the house no time to roam

Raining heavy, umbrella like a bubble

Puddles everywhere – I’m gonna get in trouble!

The “call” of a puddle is something all kids hear

“Jump in me!”, “Splash in me!”, their words are quite clear!

The bigger the splash, the bigger the mess

I know when I get home, I’ll have to confess

Puddles and mud spell trouble AND fun

After I’ve made a huge mess, home I will run

But until I’m satisfied that I’ve made the BIGGEST splash

I’ll stay here and play then run home like a flash!

When Mom opens the door with her hands on her hips

I’ll give her sorry eyes and a kiss for cheek or lips

Then she’ll tell me the story about when she was small

Each puddle she’d pass would be tempting and CALL

“Come here little girl – “Jump in me – I insist!!!”

Because puddles back then AND now are impossible to resist!!!

I used to absolutely love playing in puddles after a rainstorm when I lived at home before coming to the Bridge.   First thing after a rain storm out I’d go and I’d make sure and visit every puddle – sometimes have a slurp of water – and if worms were in the puddle OH BOY did I have extra fun!    Teddy is different – he goes AROUND puddles.   He loves mud but not crazy about puddles.   HAHAHA    I think Mom would prefer him getting WET to getting MUDDY!

Now did you write a poem?  I hope you did but if you didn’t – I have a NEW photo to inspire you for next week so PLEASE think about joining in the fun and write a poem – YOU CAN DO IT!

FUN?   I think so……………………..everybody loves watermelon on a hot day right?     OK – that’s your photo for next week………..think about it then write your poem and share it next Thursday!    Until then remember Angels are watching out for you……………..it’s what we do now we are at the Rainbow Bridge!

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Love, Angel Sammy

Thank you Angel Sammy……..your poem was fun and you’re right about puddles – you loved them and I’m more of a mud/dirt kind of guy.    One thing we have in common among many things though is that we both love that our Mom and Dad kept a watchful eye over us when we were outside.   It can be dangerous outside……..but I do love it like you did!

Hugs, Teddy

  1. I hear the call of puddles!

Our cats do that going limp thing! The bipeds say it’s amazing how much more they seem to weigh when they do that.

    • HAHAHA……yes it’s pretty funny to see too. Mom doesn’t think it’s QUITE as funny when I do that if I’m under a shrub at the time though. Messes up her hair to crawl around under there trying to pick up my big self! Tee Hee

  2. That is very good news that both cats have been saved. I didn’t know the older one was also, so I am very happy for them both.
Angel Sammy, I used to love jumping in puddles too. I was a bit of a tomboy and used to come home from school wet and dirty very often when I was small.
Eric loved puddles too and would always wade through them while Flynn paddled around the edge.

    • We are still waiting to hear “FOR SURE” about the kitties but we were told they were saved and had a new home – we hope that’s exactly what happened!! It’s funny isn’t it that some cats love puddles/wet and others really prefer to look but not touch! My Mom and her brother loved playing in the rain – especially in the hot summer when they were allowed by their Mom to be barefoot outside – puddles were fabulous and felt so yummy on the feet just like the cool wet grass did. Happy Thursday!

    • We are too…..there seem to be several slightly different version of what happened to them going around but we hope to hear the FINAL outcome soon – our paws are crossed that what we heard was right and Pingo and Pongo are HAPPILY EVER AFTERING it with a family.

  3. Pam, so funny to read this, Teddy is just like our Kosmo. He is never alone out, or without a leash, and coming in is a problem. I can’t lift him, he is fat and my back is really bad, so I try to talk to him, push and pull him, without any result. So my husband carries him inside.

    • Oh Kristiina it’s so funny to hear that we aren’t the only ones who have this problem……LOL……It’s like having a little kid who pouts and whines and makes things as difficult as possible ON PURPOSE in case we will change our minds. I too have a bad back and so does my husband (!) so we just have to do our best. I have discovered recently that Teddy will respond to me if I whistle!!! Like a dog…..but he will SOMETIMES sit up so I can pick him up better. Crazy cats!

  4. Another great poem, Angel Sammy! And, Teddy…..you are being quite the “little” problem under that favorite tree of yours, aren’t you? You’d better not be so stubborn or your pawrents might not take you outside quite as often!! 😉

    • Hi Brian! We’ll be so happy to hear a final outcome for Pingo and Polo when there is one and send you a big hug for helping with the search for a home for them. Yes Angel Sammy was totally fascinated by puddles and water. I love water but only if it’s in a sink and I’m drinking it! HAHAHA

Glad you liked Angel Sammy’s epic poem about puddles today – we knew we’d see some doozy poems from peeps writing them this week and haven’t been disappointed at all. Concatulations to your P.A. for expanding the business – that’s a HUGE undertaking. We are just happy you had a moment to slide on by and visit. We’re having a HOT summer but then again it’s been HOT everywhere this year. YUCK!

  8. Teddy…darlin’ tsk tsk tsk it sounds to me like you are being kinda stubborn like all teenage boys.
I am purrty sure you don’t want to get left outside all alone….so put on your big boy boxer and come when called.

OMCs Angel Sammy what a wonderful poem that brought back such sweet memories of simpler times, every so often I see sweet wee ones in boots when it is raining. Makes me happy to know that some are still learning the joys of puddle hopping

    • Hi Madi! Yes I know I’m being rotten when I become a dead weight when it’s time to go inside – I haven’t ALWAYS done that so Mom is wondering WHY I’m doing it now – “keep ’em guessing” is my motto right Madi??????? We loved all the poems this week – they are all fabulous. How about next week’s photo???????? Tee Hee

    • I thought it would inspire some good poetry for Poetry Thursday and it sure as heck did! Puddles and kids (and pets!) go together like GLUE and a photo album. Most of us have some sort of puddle memory – I thought this photo would stir that up in those who participate on Thursdays and I’m SOOOOO happy that’s what happened.

  9. Teddy, why am I not surprised at your brattiness!? Naughty naughty adorable boy! Now you really SO need to give your mom and dad a break occasionally on that though because they have creakier knees than we do, I know MY mom does. Oh and I love the poem, Angel Sammy. Mom meant to do this poem but what with getting ready to leave to visit other favorite brovver, it slipped her mind. She had just the right thing too…remembrance of her at about age 6 with her little red umbrella, running out into the rain every time it rained that she could get permission and splashing up and down the sidewalk in the rain..feeling so grown up with her red umbrella, twirling it around and singing and splashing.

    Like

    • Gosh Katie, your description of your Mom with her red umbrella splashing away is just as good as a poem!!! Yes I’m afraid I’ve got a but of stubborn mule in me – I’ve discovered it’s GREAT fun to lie there like I’m oblivious to my Mom and Dad tugging on my leash….Dad has actually dragged me once about a foot trying to encourage me to stand up and get out from under my special tree!! Since I wear a harness and he’s not tugging me with a collar it doesn’t hurt me at all but I kind of roll my eyes and give Dad (and Mom) the “AREYOUKIDDINGME?” look. You know the one…….!!

  10. Teddy Bean, we did not realize you were being such a stinker when outside under your tree. Mom is glad that you don’t run away and let Mom Pam or Dad David pick you, but a 20 pond dishrag would be a huge challenge for them. Try to b a better boy and not a hooligan…okay? Sammy, as usual, you did not disappoint with your poem. You painted the perfect picture, that we didn’t even need to photo. Puddle water is yummy! We do have a haiku today. • We SOOOOOOOO loved your haiku for splashing today – Angel Sammy got a big smile reading it (he told me!) and so did we. Yes I’m afraid it’s true that I’m being a pain in the “you know what” about coming inside. I actually WHINE just like a little kid would – Mom cracks up when I do that (don’t tell her I do it just for her!!) and I suppose it is mean of me to do that “limp as a dishrag” thing but it’s kinda fun and I figure weight lifting is good for my parents anyway!!!!!

  11. Great poem. None of us have ever been outside but we think it would be fun to run in puddles! We’re super happy to hear about Pingo and Polo!!

Mom says you should behave better for your Mom and Dad. After all, you wouldn’t want them to say you can’t go out, would you?

  13. We are so so so happy that Pingo and Polo are safe and sound! Bless all of those who helped them reach their happily ever after. Now, Teddy, thinking of you going limp when your mom and dad asked you to go inside kind of made us giggle. Perhaps that’s because, around here, Toby does the exact same thing when he doesn’t want to do something. He’s 16 lbs, and if he doesn’t get his weigh, he goes all rag doll on us. And, of course, your poem is absolute purrfection, Angel Sammy! We know exactly what you mean about puddles being irresistible. Pup Astrid especially agrees! Thank you for hosting this always fun challenge! We look forward to it every single week!

    • Final word on Pingo and Polo will be coming from Brian soon we hope but we were told Pingo and Polo were safe and sound. Like you, we pray it’s so. I’m glad to hear that Toby also goes LIMP when he doesn’t want to do something. It’s a rather effective way for us to protest – especially for those of us who are HEFTY. Mom laughs so hard when I do it but her laughter turns to frustration after about five minutes (!!). Thanks for pawticipating in our Poetry Day too because reading your story-poems is one of the highlights of our WHOLE WEEK!!!! How od you like the monkey photo for NEXT week? We’ve had a couple of monkey photos before….monkeys are fun.

And she laughed when she saw the picture for this week. SHE STILL does that! Yep!
So I have written a poem:
The rain it falls and it collects
In big puddles and I’ve no regrets
I jump and twirl like a little girl
I love to watch the water swirl!
My 64 year old Mom jumps in puddles! Bwa! Haa!! Haaa!!!

    • MARV!!!!!! That’s a wonderful poem in honor of puddles and splashing and the “FOREVER” kind of childhood for humans that puddles bring. I’m glad your Mom loves puddles – my Mom does too. Her favorite puddles are the ones on the driveway that get WARM when the sun comes back out after rain. They make a nice footbath for HER and for ME too! May your Mom ALWAYS enjoy puddles and being a “little girl” again in those moments.

Love, Teddy and Mom Pam too ❤

  16. My human never got the puddle thing, although she does love the way rain smells. My human almost never lets go of my leash outside, and I’m also not allowed to go anywhere that might make it difficult for her to fetch me when it’s time to come inside. So Teddy, you get a LOT more leeway than I do!

    • I think my Mom and Dad are wondering if letting me lie under the mini-tree in the first place was such a good idea – somehow I “knew” that was Angel Sammy’s FAVORITE spot in the yard because I went RIGHT THERE from the first time I was out for a walk with Mom and Dad on the harness. It’s such a nice spot! My Mom can smell rain in the air too – most of the time it arrives within a half hour of her smelling it but not always.

  17. Absolutely THE best news about the two kitties finding a home… the best. I think a picture is needed of you with one of your parents dragging limp Teddy out from under his bush… the vision I have right now! Cracking me up! Had no idea you loved puddles so much Angel Sammy! Good Morning!

    • Mom says while it SOUNDS TOTALLY HILARIOUS, it’s a pain in the tushie dragging a 20 lb. cat out from under a shrub. She only drags me a little ways before she realizes I’m JUST AS HEAVY THAT WAY as I am if she picks me up! HAHAHAHA……….The other problem with the “drag out” procedure is that the garden where my mini-tree that I hide under is located has a ROCK WALL around it. Can’t drag me over a wall can ya MOM…..!!!
