Thankful and Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Standard

Happy Thursday!   Time to be thankful for another week………………..this Hop is sponsored by our good friend Brian and you can join in and tell us your Thankfuls by clicking his badge above.   Fill out the LINKY tool and tell it like it is.     My “Thankfuls” this week include that Mom and Dad finally got the deck resealed and I can now visit it on my “walks” around the yard.   It was off limits for several days while the work was going on and now I can go up there and hang out if I want to.    Another thankful is that even though we were expecting a whole lot of firework noise yesterday we didn’t have ANY until last night and even that wasn’t so bad.    I wasn’t scared at all (well, hardly anyway!).

The other part of my post today is sharing the email I got from Angel Sammy via his wifi connection at the Bridge transmitting his regular Thursday poem to us.    YAY!    Below is what came through……………

♥♥♥

Hello everyone!    Here we are again on a Thursday sharing some fun with poetry.    By now you know that on Thursdays I not only share my poem with you that I based on the previous week’s “photo inspiration” that I gave, but I also give you a challenging photo for you to write a poem about for NEXT Thursday when we get together again!    Just put into words what the photo I give you “says” to you – how does it make you feel or what do you see/think about when you see it?     Pretty easy right?   Well you may think you can’t write a poem but you CAN – trust me.    Here’s the photo I gave you last week for you to write a poem about for today – followed by my poem.

“Movie Night”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell    July 5, 2018

Drive In movies were very popular in the past

But like lots of things, they just didn’t last

People now prefer a cool movie theater seat

Rather than outside in a car – but back then it was a treat!

Date night meant going to a drive-in, getting popcorn, cokes and candy

Sitting close to your boyfriend in the car with the window speaker quite handy

Intermission you’d walk around, visit friends or get more snacks for “part two”

All around you other cars full of families or maybe couples like you!

It was cozy and private and MAYBE you’d see some of the movie……….

In your date night clothes and teased up hair you felt quite groovy…..

Well that’s what Mom says drive-ins were like but that was so long ago

I’m sure there were people there who ACTUALLY came for the show!!!!

HAHA……sorry Mom…….I had to write this one and it’s dedicated to you and your long-ago memories.    There are some drive-ins around these days but they are few and far between.

So now that I embarrassed Mom (!) and also had some fun writing this poem, it’s time for me to tell you that if you’ve written your OWN poem from the photo, please let us know and give us your link in our comments OR write your poem there to share with us.   C’mon!!!   We want you to give poetry a try……………..it’s FUN I promise.

Now here’s your poem for NEXT Thursdays poetic inspiration – you have a whole week to write a poem about this photo………..will you do it?   I hope so.

So I will hope to see you all again next week when we get together and share our poems based on the above photo – is it a date?    Until then, just remember that those of us up here at the Bridge are watching over you……all day every day……always and forever.

Love, Angel Sammy

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

♥♥♥

Thanks Angel Sammy……………….that was a fun poem and looks like that carnival photo will be a fun one too……………………..thanks for visiting us every week.    It makes me happy!

Hugs, Teddy

  1. Great poem, Angel Sammy! Mom says…(clearing her throat), yes, she remembers those drive-in movies…..
Looks like a fun pic for next week’s poem too!
Teddy, so glad you didn’t have to deal with lots of fireworks noise last night.

  3. Very nice poem Angel Sammy. Some of us have lots of stories to tell about the drive-in 🙂 I love the art your Mom made with your photo Teddy. That would be a nice puzzle. Have a great day! XO

  4. One of the tidbits I uncovered while doing research on the dreadful practice of Daylight Savings Time is that the fall of the drive in movie phenomenon coincided with the US adopting DST nationally in the mid 60’s. Less nighttime waking hours is bad for all industries who do most of their business when it’s dark. Change a clock, kill a drive in theater. Such a shame…

    • Oh yes I’d forgotten about those danged speakers – I can remember moving three or four times to find one that worked and didn’t have that irritating buzz! It was hard to remember which side to get out of the car on though to visit the bathroom or snack bar. LOL Gosh it was a more simple time back then. Thanks to all of you for participating in Sammy’s poetry Thursdays – you always have a FUN poem to add to the mix. Teddy and I hope you all are having a good summer so far….it’s hot as blazes here and we need rain badly but see floods and wildfires other places – we shouldn’t complain!

Sending hugs from me AND Teddy too!

    • Siddhartha we read about your bad reaction – I’m so very sorry that happened to you but at least your Ladymum realized what was wrong quickly before you got very very sick. Poor boy – I’m sure that you will be alright now. You and Ladymum take care and stay cool!

  7. We thought your thankfuls were great and loved Angel Sammy’s poem/tell all of Moms drive in movie days. Ours were only open in the summer months.
We’re thankful we had the joy of babysitting Amelia for two days on Monday and Tuesday. She is such a happy baby. She’s ten months old now and loves to be on the move. Time really flies.

    • Time does fly and it is important to savor the NOW as much as we can because soon it will be “REMEMBER WHEN”……….the drive-ins of old were magical places in a way. Great family times, great “teens growing up” times, and wonderful places to escape routine. Happy to hear you’re enjoying your grandbaby – I know it must be TONS of fun!

  8. Our Mom remembers those drive-ins too. She loved the concession stand AND the playground. She says they always had the best equipment ever – or at least that is how she remembers it:)

    • Oh yes and the food was so good but so simple – the best hot dogs, the best onion rings…and the best popcorn. Cherry coke? Hard to find those anymore….at least not like those were!

  9. We’re so happy the fireworks weren’t too bad for you, Teddy. We had quite a few going off in our neighborhood, but luckily none of the furbabies around here care about the noise. Angel Sammy, your poem is fantastic! This drive-in image sure is nostalgic, and so is your wonderful poem. Now, we can’t wait to get working on our poem for next week’s super fun photo!

    • Glad you liked Angel Sammy’s poem this week – drive-ins sure inspired some great poetry this week – we loved your poem too. I think the carnival photo is another one of those “memories of the past” for a lot of people although you CAN still find a little carnival from time to time. They are disappearing too I think except for maybe in the country……things are just so different from what I remember – it was a gentler time.

  10. The mom has great memories of the drive-in. When she was a kid, the mom and dad would load the whole family into the station wagon and they went to the drive in. Most of the time, they were all in their PJs because it never failed that they would all fall asleep before the movie was over. Well, not her mom and dad. They had to stay awake to drive home! 🙂

    • Yes I think a lot of us have family drive-in memories….most of my memories are teenager type memories but I remember so many families with kids in PJs all around loving the “adventure” of being in their cars watching movies! Such a fun time.

  11. Sammy, Mom is trying to imagine Mom Pam with teased hair. MOL! Our mom says she only went to the drive-in movies a couple of times with a boy. She didn’t date much. She and Dad went a few times after they moved here, but it was way too hot in the summer and the drive-ins always closed in the winter. Most of them had “swap meets” on Saturday and Sundays during the day to stay afloat. In the not too distant future, no one will remember they even existed. Next week’s photo is another nostalgia one for our mom…remembering summers at the County fair. Mom posted an old poem of hers at: http/www.thecatonmyhead.com/summertime/pastimes/

    • We just loved your Mom’s poem…so glad she saved it especially since it was published. It’s wonderful. Drive-ins were huge around here and there was one VERY close to where Mom lived as a teenager – it was THE THING to do on Friday or Saturday night. Mom says she didn’t tease her hair “huge” – just some on the top – she’s always had very fine hair and teasing was the only way to avoid “FLAT HEAD”….HAHAHAHAHA The county fair/carnival photo for next week is another fun one isn’t it? Can’t wait to see everyone’s poems! STAY COOL….

    • I think people just don’t want to sit in a car and sweat (or freeze) but back in “the day” it didn’t matter…….it was so much fun to go to a drive-in we didn’t care!
