Thankful and Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Time to be Thankful AND Poetic!

First we take care of joining up with Brian’s Blog Hop which is all about being thankful……………we look back at the week and find some thankfuls and we can ALWAYS find some!    If you’d like to tell the world about yours, just click the badge above and fill out the LINKY form……then share your thankfuls with other thankful peeps!     Today I want to tell a short tale of BRIEF freedom and my thankfulness that my Mom found me.    What am I talking about?   Well this morning Mom let me out into the garage thinking the garage door was SHUT.   I am only allowed out on my harness WITH a parent.    Guess what – the door was up – Dad had left it up when he went out to work on a project in our woods.   Mom did NOT KNOW THAT…………..over a half hour later she took iced tea to Dad and noticed that the door in the garage was UP.   PANIC BUTTON……………she ran around the yard calling my name thinking I could be ANYWHERE in thirty whole minutes of freedom……..our neighbor boys heard Mom screeching and came out to help find me and THEY did!  I was next door in their yard and had been the whole time.   Mom was so grateful to the boys and they were so sweet to help old Mom.    I was just glad to get back in the house to have a big drink of water and a nice cold floor to lie on!!!!   Will I do that again?   Probably not.   Mom will LOOK to make sure the garage door is closed.    I love my garage – I have a window seat out there that is my perfect spy spot.   I enjoyed my taste of freedom but know what???    THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

Now, onward to the second part of our post today which is sharing the email I got from my Angel brother Sammy with you – where he’s used the photo challenge he gave us LAST week to write his poem.    Hopefully some of you have done the same thing – written a poem based on his photo inspiration – don’t forget to tell us you wrote one and share your link with us and everyone else!     Here’s his email from last night’s transmission from his laptop at the Rainbow Bridge:

♥♥♥

Hello Poets and Friends!

It’s Thursday – the day we get together and share our poetry.    You know the drill – the photo I gave you last Thursday has been sitting around gathering dust since last week and then you remembered to take it out, dust it off, study it and let it inspire you to write a poem about it.   Easy right?    Well, I just want you to have fun with it.    And after I share the poem that I wrote I will give you ANOTHER photo to use for next Thursday when we’ll all gather together again and share our poetic efforts.

I really enjoy finding photos for you (and me) every week.   I try to find interesting photos and you all know as I do that everyone’s imagination is different so you might see something in the poem that’s different from what I see or anyone else sees………that’s what makes this FUN!

Here’s last week’s photo followed by MY effort at writing a poem inspired by it:

“Happy Days”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell     June 21, 2018

Laundry out there hanging on the old clothesline

Waving in the breeze and smelling fresh and fine

Mama’s magic in the kitchen cookin’ homemade delights

Every dish she creates yummy until the very last bites

Her aprons protect her dresses from all drips and splashes

Even after stoking up the stove she can wipe her hands of ashes

Aprons take a lot of punishment but they are very necessary

Keeping Mom’s dresses from cookin’ oil and juice from all those berries!

A week’s worth of aprons means a week’s worth of home cookin’

People drive by in their farm trucks and are always a-lookin’

They know Mama’s been busy when seven aprons on the line they see

They know she’s had a full week of work to feed her hungry family.

Well that’s my poem – where’s yours?   Just tell us in our comments that you wrote one, and give us your blog link OR write the poem in our comments if you want to – but whatever you do, write a poem because you will enjoy crafting something of your VERY OWN!    Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme – it just has to express something you feel or see or think……go for it.   If you didn’t write one this week – use the photo below to write one for NEXT week……………..we’d love to read it – honest we would!

Cool photo huh?   I think so…………..Notice the kitty in the foreground?   Nice touch huh?    Have fun with this one – I imagine there will be some really cool poetry next Thursday and I hope you will join me here to see mine and discover who else has taken a leap of creative faith and written their own!!

Meanwhile, have a great week my friends…………thanks for visiting Teddy’s blog on Thursday and EVERY day.    I may be gone but I’m still with you always.

I am the Angel Poet in the green beret…..and I hope you join me for POETIC FUN each week!

Angel Hugs, Sammy

Oh Sammy I love your clothesline poem…………..our Mom says she can remember just how yummy things out on the clothesline would smell after being washed and all that fresh air drying things out.   Especially sheets – oh boy that first night in sheets dried out on the line was heavenly so she says.   I don’t need sheets to sleep well – just a quiet spot where I can dream!

See you all next week for Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Love, Teddy

  1. oh you brought back the good ole times with your poem… The mama said she actually knows her granny only with an apron … to tell the truth they may be dated but still practically… the mama wears one sometimes when we are on da way to a special event with the car to avoid that she ends covered in dog hairs (but it doesn’t work LOL)

    • I only went in the yard next door but Mom had visions of me wandering far far away. I guess you might say that I know a good thing when I have it with my happy home – I just wanted a tiny taste of freedom! Isn’t the photo for next week cool? It looks like a dream……..

  2. Oh, sweet Teddy. My mom says she can just imagine how frantic your mom must have been (and your dad, too!) when you were AWOL yesterday….. I did step out on the deck once…and out on the front porch another time, but that’s been the extent of my “roaming”! I’m so glad you were quickly back inside where it was cool and safe!
We love the poem Angel Sammy wrote about the aprons! Guess what? Motor Mommy wears one sometimes when she’s cooking or washing dishes. I think Motor Man really likes it: he told her the other day she certainly looked “domesticated”. That’s a big word, huh?

    • Gosh Sundae……I’m glad your Mom wears an apron once in a while…..my Mom probably would if she had one…her Mom never wore one. Yes my little taste of freedom yesterday was interesting but it really did just remind me that “there’s no place like home” !!!

  3. Dearest Teddy OMCs what an ‘adventure’ you had. YIKES!! now that my mom’s heart is back in her chest and not her throat she read it to dad and I at breakfast. Triple YIKES!!

Angel Sammy, We love your poem about aprons and OH yes what memories it brought back. Mom told me her Annie Ma (her mom’s Mother) wore aprons all the time. Mom said her mom never did. Then when she met Dad she was re introduced to them by his Mom. She had the most beautiful aprons that were hand made. Mom still has a few of them. When mom was working she’d put on an apron as soon as she got home to get supper started. Well done Sammy.

Hugs and kitty kisses and OMCs next week is gonna be a challenge.

    • Aprons are beautiful things…..with frills and bows and pockets of all sizes….they were almost always SOFT SOFT SOFT cotton from millions of washes and each apron had memories attached like turkey dinners and Christmas cookies……..sigh………I’m glad you enjoyed Angel Sammy’s poem – he sure knows a lotta stuff doesn’t he?????

  4. We are so glad your Mom and the neighbors found you and got you safely back inside. Please DON’T DO THAT AGAIN!!

Mom used to hang the sheets on the line here until Hurry-cane Frances took the clothes pole down.

    • I have promised never to go on an adventure alone again. In fact I really do love going for yard walks with Mom and Dad and being alone wasn’t as much fun as I thought it might be. I think my Mom would use a clothesline just for the sheets if we had one……she could hang a rope between two of our backyard trees but then the birds would poop on the sheets!!! LOL

  5. Angel Sammy you have such a great talent… your words make such a cute and true poem! HAPPY is right. I mentioned at a couple of blogs that it made me think of FOOD and my Grandma! I can smell homemade bread right now. I used to have an apron of my Mom’s that reminded me of her basting the Thanksgiving turkey but it got lost in one of our many moves.

Teddy, I know your Mom’s heart was in her throat! Your brother Sammy was watching out for you and the neighbor boys are treasures! I think it is cool that your parents have a window seat for you out in the garage. You need to stay in the garage and be content harassing the lizards… lizard sounds better than skinks,,, Ha!

    Good Morning Vir-gin-i-AAAAAAAAA!

    • Oh I know Angel Sammy will love your words about his poem Miss Pix! The photo sure made for some great poetry around the blogosphere today that’s for sure and we can’t wait to see what people come up with for next week’s photo too! My Mom loved the photo of the clothesline – with the old barn in the back and wooden clothespins and she could ALMOST smell the wonderful clean clothes smell too. I have promised Mom not to escape EVER again although after all SHE let me out in the garage without checking to see if the door was down. I thought “WOW – Mom’s letting me have an adventure!” but in the end I was only next door and when I got home I was HAPPY to be back!!!!

I agree with you about lizards…..somehow that word is a whole lot better than SKINK…….SKINK sounds like STINK and we don’t like that! 🙂

  6. That is an excellent poem from Angel Sammy, as always. That was quite a scare you gave your
Mom. I am glad those sweet neighbor boys found you. Try not to scare your Mom like that again silly boy. XO

    • I promise I will never, ever go on “walkabout” on my own again. In fact, both times I went out today with Dad and Mom I realized when we saw all the big hawks flying above us that I was lucky yesterday not to be out on my own for too long!

  7. What an adventure you had, Teddy! We sure bet that both you and your mom were happy when you were found and back in the safety of your home. Angel Sammy, your poem is so very perfect for this lovely photo. There is such a quaint, rustic feel to this image, and your poem captured that so well. Now, that image for next week is going to be so fun, and we can’t wait to get started on it! Purrs!

    • Isn’t that photo for next week fabulous? Digital art obviously but oh wow and wow again – so many cool elements to it including cats and “mirages”…..we will look forward to your story/poem for next week too!!! Yes by the way – I was glad when I was found – although what they don’t know is that I could SEE my house the whole time (tee hee).

    • I shouldn’t scare my peeps like that……….Mom was hysterical and Dad was trying to keep her calm AND find me at the same time. In the end I hadn’t gone very far……I know what a “good thing” I have with my home!!

  9. Teddy, your mom must have been scared half to death to see you were missing! you were a good boy not to wander further though. Once Ivor also left the garage door open, but when I saw it Flynn was sat in the doorway looking out. I think he knew Eric and I always went on walks with him and he was waiting for us.
That is a lovely poem, Angel Sammy. Ivor’s mother always wore the pinafore type aprons. Next week’s picture looks very surreal and interesting. I can see 2 kitties there!

    • Two kitties in the photo? Mom will have to look again! We think it’s a pretty interesting photo…….should be fun to write a poem about. Well I have promised Mom and Dad that I will not go wandering again should one of them ACCIDENTALLY let me out without them. Somehow I think that was my first and only flight of freedom though! I’m glad Flynn didn’t wander – he waited – he was a very good boy.

    • Oh Tabbies I thought I was “hot stuff” being outside without my harness and without snoopervision but know what (don’t tell!) – I was happy when Mom and the boys found me. I was kinda lost. I know in my heart there’s no place like home. I prolly will NOT be doin’ THAT again! I’m glad you are safely INSIDE too….we have lotsa HAWKS around here who wouldn’t think twice of swooping down for a big ginger morsel. I’m so big though I bet it would take a whole PILE of hawks to carry me away! Love love love love love your double haiku…….it’s purrrrfectly purrrfect! My Mom sends hugs to your Mom and I send hugs to all of you.

  11. Whew, we are so glad your Mom and those nice boys found you so quickly. Mom says she can just imagine the panic your Mom must have been feeling. That is one of her biggest fears. She is always checking the yard gate to be sure it is closed before we go out, and she checks the garage door too. We probably wouldn’t be as good as you and stick close by – you know we LOVE to run:)

Nice poem, Mom always loved to hang her clothes outside, but the silly homes association don’t allow that here:(

    • Mom is certainly going to make SURE Dad has closed the garage door from now on – you can bet on that! It can be very dangerous for us to be away from our “safe places” without our parents so you all and me should promise NEVER to wander alone. Is it a deal? OK!!!! Mom could hang her clothes outside but with all the trees we have it wouldn’t take long for all the birds to use Mom’s laundry as their litterbox (!!!).

    • It’s only natural I think to EXPLORE when you’re a kitty and I was sure I could have my fun and still stay in eyesight of the house……..I guess I should have gone straight to my Dad (who was outside at the time) to let him know I was out there on my own but I got distracted by FREEEEEEEDOM!

    • It was very scary for my Mom – and I didn’t mean to scare everyone but after all the door was open so that means “GO FOR IT” right? Dad said he “assumed” Mom would check about the garage door before letting me out there but – well – she “assumed” it was closed. There will be no assumptions from now on!!!!!
