Thankful and Poetic Thursday

Standard

Is it Thursday already?    My Mom is always talking about how QUICKLY she thinks time passes – I say it doesn’t pass fast enough but then I’m a little kid and she isn’t.    Well whether it’s passed fast or slow it’s still time to be THANKFUL as we are every Thursday with our buddy Brian – and if you click his badge above you know what will happen?   You will be transported to his blog where you can join in the Blog Hop where we are thankful too!

This week I’m thankful that even though it was cold cold cold out, my Mom and Dad indulged me and let me go outside and lie on the front porch in the sunshine.  Of course they were WITH me and I had on my leash and harness but I WAS outside and I did get some fresh air.   It was quite cold but nice.   I am also thankful that in spite of places all around us getting snow – we didn’t!

I’m always thankful as well when I get my weekly email from my brother Angel Sammy at the Bridge containing his poem for his Poetry Challenge.    Yep – I got it last night and here it is for your viewing pleasure.

Greetings from the Rainbow Bridge!

It’s another Thursday and time for us to share the poems we wrote during this past week using the photo I gave you as inspiration………….sure is fun doing this don’t you think?    If you’ve joined us before you know the deal…….I give you a photo each week and you write a poem about the photo:  how it makes you feel, what it makes you think, a funny story it reminds you of, WHATEVER inspiration you get, you write.   Easy?  Well for some people I guess it isn’t easy but really ANYONE can write a poem – just do it.     If you wrote one, me sure to put your blog link in our comments here OR write your poem out in our comments – either way we can read and share!

Here’s the photo that was our inspiration for this past week, followed by my poem:

“Overwhelmed”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell    March 14, 2018

Panic begins, breathing in gulps, hearts beat fast,

Fear grips the mind and you hope it won’t last….

Being afraid, scared, or worried is just not fun

You’d much rather be on a beach in the sun!

When life is a mess or it seems to be so

It’s hard to relax and just let things go

The feelings of doubt, of sadness, or regret

Can seem like a wave that’s as big as it gets……..

A tsunami of fear that’s pulling you under

“Will I survive?”, you can’t help but wonder.

The WILL to go on can get you through doubt

When you break through that wave you’ll just want to shout

“I’m still here, I got through it, and I’m still alive…..

I’ll be stronger next time because I want to SURVIVE!”

Even though I am at the Bridge now I listen to everything my Mom says……..and this past week she talked a lot about “worry”……..and how easy it is for people to get overwhelmed by worry.    THAT was the inspiration for me this week along with this incredible photograph of a SURFER on a wave bigger than BIG – in fact it’s truly a tsunami-sized wave.    I’m sure it’s a thrill to surf and manage to come up for air after riding a wave like that BUT it’s not something I’d do that’s for sure!    When I found that photo I couldn’t believe it was real but I investigated it, and it is.    In fact, if you google “gigantic waves” you’ll see other HUGE waves…….

Now, for NEXT week’s poem photo challenge, I have a photo to give you and you have a whole week to think about it and write a poem about the photo!   Ready?

Talk about a pawsome campsite huh?   Well, it is just a huge cave in a jungle but it does STIR the imagination!    That’s what it’s supposed to do.    I hope you’ll write a poem to share with us NEXT week…………..about what you feel when you look at this photo.

Now it’s time for me to say goodbye……….I have duties to attend to you know.    Lots of them.    I don’t just lie on a cloud and float around all day you know!    I’ll see you soon……maybe in your dreams…………

Oui Oui – me in my French beret which inspires my POETRY!

Love, Angel Sammy

Thanks Angel Sammy!    I like next week’s photo – looks like a spot where Cat Scouts should go camping.   So we’ll see you next Thursday everyone?    Have a good week and a Happy St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday.

From Me to all of YOU!

Love, Teddy O’Kimmell

  1. oh you found the bestest words to describe this feeling… but we are strong and yes we want to survive and we will fight and we never give up… no wave is as big as our will to pull through.

    • Big difference in the feeling of that photo isn’t there? I think that’s why having a photo for inspiration to write a poem every week “works”………there are feelings that we get from things we see…..and every week when someone writes a poem we can understand that everyone sees things just a LITTLE BIT differently than the next person!

    • Yes I know it’s hard….my Mom knows it’s hard too…..but in the worst of times when it feels like you’re going under, if you don’t – and you instead swim to the shore – there’s such a feeling of ACCOMPLISHMENT and STRENGTH! I think just remembering worrying doesn’t change anything helps too!!!!

Love and Hugs, Teddy (and Mom too!)

  3. Angel Sammy, your poems lately have been an inspiration to me and they have made me teary with gratitude. Being up at the Rainbow Bridge I think you see all and I think you help people when you don’t even realize it. Powerful poem! Teddy O’Kimmell the Irish Prayer was the icing on the cake or even better… the BACON on the CHEESEBURGER, or the mashed potatoes on the meatloaf… Hahaha!

    • Oh Miss Pix I know Angel Sammy will appreciate your comments on his poem. You know Angels are very smart and they see all and know all…..so I think they kinda know when is a good time to “pump up the volume” for some people so they can hear their own hearts. You know what else? I really like that you think the Irish Prayer was the BACON ON THE CHEESEBURGER!!!!! Mom giggled at mashed taters on meatloaf – in fact I believe she’s making that this weekend for my Dad!

  6. That is a great poem, Angel Sammy never disappoints. It easy to get overwhelmed with worry, I almost feel like if I don’t worry then bad things will happen. I am glad Teddy got to enjoy the great outdoors. I think my Sammy will write the poem next week because it does look like a great place for Cat Scouts to camp. XO

  7. Sweet poem. Great job, Angel S. Very positive, as usual. We got enough snow for all of us, and then some. It’s been fun, but I also looked forward to catching some sunshine along the way.

  8. Sammy, you nailed your poem again today…so thoughtful. Mom wishes she could have done better than a dinky haiku. Next week’s photo looks really cool. Mau and Cooper agree that it would be a great place for a Cat Scouts camping trip. If anybody wants to read our haiku, they can do it at http://www.thecatonmyhead.com/a-haiku-and-thanks/

    • Hi Tabbies! I love your haiku – that guy must be glued to his board to be able to stay on it – I hope he doesn’t turn around to see what’s behind him – WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s been very cold here and while I MAY ask Mom to take me to the front porch for some air, I probably won’t wander around in the wind. Just cuz I have fur doesn’t mean my toe beans don’t get COLD!!!!!

Have a great day my friends……..sending you a Teddy Bean Hug to share!

  10. Teddy, before you know it, Spring will really be here and you’ll be taking your mom and dad on walks all the time. Hooray! And, Angel Sammy, your poems are always so profound and inspiring. Even through the most overwhelming of times, we can survive! Purrs to all of you!

(P.S. I am so mesmerized by the photo for next week. I am already brainstorming ideas for a poem to go with it.)

  11. We want to explore the cave in the picture. Maybe Mommy will let us post about it next week. That wave was scary, but we see a lot of our friends including YOU came up with good ideas for it.
