Thankful and Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Standard

Thankful – yes we are and that’s why we hook up every Thursday to our friend Brian’s Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!   Would you like to tell the world what you’re thankful for?   Then pop over to Brian’s (click badge above) and sign up to share.    I have a rather different kind of “Thankful” today – One year ago this week we lost friends Easy and Fiona.    I didn’t know either of them but Angel Sammy did and it was dreadful losing two close friends so close together – – – then of course Angel Sammy himself joined them just days later on December 2.    My Mom has told me it was a dark, dark time for everyone even though it was the beginning of the Christmas season and usually people would be happy and joyful – yet there was so much sadness.   Everyone moved on somehow though and got through the holidays with heavy hearts but interestingly THAT is what I’m thankful for.   I’m thankful that we can all be resilient if we have to be – we are capable of dusting ourselves off and moving forward.    That’s a “people” thing but I think we animals do that too – some of us go through really bad health issues or age-related serious problems but we keep plugging along because we want to hold onto life.    I’M THANKFUL FOR THIS SPIRIT!      Kind of an “adult” thought I know for a little guy who isn’t even two years old yet but Mom has taught me a lot since I came here!

I’m also thankful that Angel Sammy came through with his weekly Poem yet again.    He popped onto his laptop last night at the Bridge and emailed me the following – just like he does EVERY Thursday…………………

♥♥♥♥

Greetings from the Bridge my friends!

We are now just one short week away from the end of the alphabet – next week we will do Z and then we will start a BRAND NEW Poetic Challenge every week.    You know, even though not that many of you have tried your hand at writing a poem to share, the few of you who ARE doing that enjoy it like I do – and as long as there are some of you who enjoy it – I’ll keep hosting it on Thursdays!    Do we have a deal?    GOOD!

Today is all about “Y” though so let me share my poem with you then I’ll tell you about the NEW Poetic Thursday.    If you have written a poem GOOD FOR YOU, and if you want to put your blog link in my comments to your poem please do so we can read it!   You can also put your poem in my comments and we can read it HERE.    Just give it a try if you haven’t written one before – I think you will enjoy doing it – you can have fun expressing yourself in a new way – poetry takes ALL forms – doesn’t have to rhyme either – just be YOUR thoughts.    Last week I gave you some ideas in case you couldn’t come up with your own “Y” to write about – my prompts are just ideas – you can write about ANYTHING though OK?    Here’s what I gave you to jiggle your brain:

(1) Yesterday (2) Yummy (3) Yellow (4) Year

I decided to use one of my own prompts this week………………

“Year”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell, Nov. 30, 2017

A year can be forever when someone has gone away

Or a year can feel like a second if “Goodbyes” you had to say

I remember I was tired and feeling all my years

I remember in my mother’s eyes, I so often saw big tears

She knew just like I did that time was getting near

She’d have to let her ginger boy go as Angels’ voices I could hear

But it wasn’t just me who went to the Bridge a year ago this week

Fiona, Easy, and other beloved furkids left there were tears on every cheek

Fear not dear family for we are here and watching you from afar

If you ever find you have a doubt, look for the BRIGHTEST star……….

It’s us holding candles together – to light the darkest skies

So know that love is forever, and dry the tears from your sweet eyes.

Please don’t be sad when you read my poem this week – believe me when I say that those of us who left are happy, HEALTHY, and watching over you.   One day we will all be together again for a TRULY FOREVER.

Next week we have the letter “Z” and as usual I will give you some ideas for things you might choose to write about – but feel free to do ANY “Z” word OK?    It’s up to you!!

(1) Zoo (2) Zing (3) Zipper (4) Zap

Now on a brighter note – let me share my idea for the NEW Poetic Challenge after we finish next week with “Z”   – Every Thursday starting December 7th after we’ve done our “Z” poems,  I will post a picture – something I have found on the internet and it can be a photo of ANYTHING – person, place, thing, animal, vegetable, mineral, WHATEVER!    Your job is to write a poem about the photo for the following week.   Instead of giving you WORDS, I will give you a PHOTO…….your FIRST Poetic Photo Challenge you should schedule to post for December 14th.    I will continue to send my brother Teddy my PHOTO POEM the night before as I have been doing.    Do you think this will be fun???    You can let me know if you think it will be – if the NOs win, I’ll just start the alphabet over and we’ll continue as we have………but if you DO think it will be FUN say YES and we’ll give it a whirl!

Teddy will let you know the results………………so we’ll continue to write poetry together in SOME form anyway.    Poetry is good for the SOUL!    Hope you all know how much all of us Angels love all of you………………………….forever.

Angels can be Poets Too!!   Love, Angel Sammy

♥♥♥♥

Thanks my brother………………oh I think you and I would have had a lot of fun together driving Mom and Dad nuts………..but I’m doing my best and I know you DO communicate with Mom – she’s told me and Dad that sometimes she sees you and sometimes she hears you………………and if you promise to keep a secret, I see you too!    Mom sees me staring up at the ceiling at NOTHING (so she thinks!) but I see you………smiling at me……..and I feel all WARM inside.

Happy Thursday Everybody!   Love, Teddy

  1. you are so right… 2016 was a year what brought so much sadness and tears to us… and it was the year what felt like two years or like ten… and it is like a miracle that we carried this year on our shoulders and that we pulled through… with a little help from friends like Joe Cocker once said… you maybe met him on the other side and he will probably agree.
btw: the prompt is zipper? good, I just removed one from my daddy’s sweater ;o)

    • Oh Phenny! You modified your Dad’s sweater by removing the whole zipper? WOW…you have strong teeth!! Yes, Mom and I think this past year was very hard for lots of pet families – there seemed to be a greater number of new Angels than ever before. The good thing is that families have been added to, Angels continue to visit and watch out for their loved ones still here, and we are all still FRIENDS…..My Mom says that while her heart still aches for herself and everyone who lost a pet, it’s also full of LOVE for this wonderful place we know as “animal bloggers”……it’s a KIND and CARING community! We love you – we send you very special hugs today………

Love, Teddy (and Pam too!) ❤

        • My Mom says that is SO TRUE. Sharing helps more than people think – and through the sad times we ALL stick together. Through the happy times we all celebrate together! Balance…………now if the WORLD could only be “balanced”…….that would be NICE! ❤

  4. Dear Angel Sammy….what a heartfelt poem today. We admit to getting a bit misty when reading yours and Angel Easy’s poems today; however, as mom said to Easy …inspiration comes from great love…and we now add to both of you great love like your showed your peeps is evident here….Please tell all our friends Madi sends love and hugs..

As for our new challenge I think it is a wonderful idea…to write about pictures…Bravo to your smart as a whip mom for coming up with the idea. I think the alphabet poems made us all realize there is a poet living inside us and now I bet we can be inspired by a beautiful picture. Oh and maybe along the way some of us might find
a pic of our own to write about too.

Mom’s head party came up with a Y today here it is

  5. Sammy, Teddy and Mom Pam, We just wrote you a long comment, but when Mom went to get the link to our poem, it disappeared before she could publish. We are going to rewrite it, but for the moment here is the link to our poem: http://thecatonmyhead.com/?p=27932 We need to gather our thoughts again, as our hearts are full of your wise and thoughtful words making our brains unable to think clearly. • Hello Everybody! Your poem is beyond wonderful today – and it’s so good to put our thoughts into poetic form when we have these “sadaversaries” after a loss of a beloved pet. You all ALWAYS say such meaningful things in your poem “gifts”……this poem today is no exception. We have no doubt that Easy, Fiona, Sammy and so many others who have gone to the Bridge are smiling because they ARE still a big part of us an always will be.

      Hugs, Pam and Teddy

It was a very sad time last year, but we were thankful for knowing Angel Sammy and Easy. Unfortunately we didn’t know Fiona. We’ve lost pets at both thanksgiving and Christmas. It was sad but it’s nice knowing they’re at the Rainbow Bridge.
    We wrote a poem too.

    • Shoko you and Kali were both such supportive sweet friends to all of the Angels before they left AND after too for their humans left behind. Some like Sammy STAYED “here” because he just couldn’t say goodbye forever – just goodbye and I’ll see you soon…….and we have been happy to have him on the blog and at Scouts and of course ALWAYS in our hearts. The outpouring of love ALL of us who lost pets this past year has helped us tremendously. Friendship is a POWERFUL thing!

  12. That was a very sad and difficult end of last year for us too as we had to say good-bye way too soon to Angel Ciara, and only a little more than a year after saying good-bye to Angel Phantom. But time heals a lot of the sadness and the memories of the good times take the foreground. And of course, it sure does help to have two new young lives added to our family.

That was a beautiful poem, as all of yours have been. Mom wishes she could make her words come together and sound half as good as yours.

Glad you liked Angel Sammy’s poem and we’re hoping the photo poetry idea works for everyone – your Mom should TRY a poem one Thursday. We’d like that!

    • Miss Jackie, I came down especially to answer this note – Flynn and Eric are both with me as I write to tell you we don’t want you to be sad….we are “born again” at the Bridge and watching over you and all the humans we left behind. We are with you every minute of the day – through good and bad, happy and sad. I’m glad you liked my poem though – I sure enjoy poetry day as it lets me have a voice for EVERYONE, not just the little voice my Mom hears in her heart every day.

    • What a GREAT poem Siddhartha! You remind us that everyone who knew the Angels had a very hard time getting through those “leavings” – we all have endured them yet we keep on going. Things change, people come and go, our furfriends must depart as well but there is always LOVE in the blogosphere! Your poem is FABULOUS – just really full of love.

          • I think that’s part of the fun really – learning about each other and what works and what doesn’t – every human and every cat are different. Part of the problem sometimes is that humans expect all of us kitties to be the SAME but we are EVER so different from each other! I might LOOK like Sammy but I am ME…….You and Ladymum have been through the bad and the good together in a short time and you are TOGETHER. That’s what’s important!

I think it also reminds you to have lots of fun with your friends and make the most of every day – that’s what I tell mum when she says she’s too tired to take me to the park!

I believe you’re right though – we just need to concentrate on “NOW” and have fun and pass out love to everyone while we can. Good luck getting those walks to the park – I get to walk around my yard on a harness every day too!
