Bakin’ in Baconia

Standard

Greetings from Baconia!   ‘Tis I – your King

and part-time Bacon Chef!

I do hope you are well this fine Saturday morning.  I care about all my loyal (and even the not-so-loyal) subjects and I think if we eat plenty of bacon, we should feel WELL – am I right?   That is why I decided to devote Saturday morning – before we get busy in the royal Baconian court/castle life – to spend a little time in the castle kitchen whipping up some kind of bacon delight to share with you.     These recipes ARE ones I find here and there but this one ESPECIALLY we have had here in the Castle……..and we (that’s the “royal WE”) loved it.

So shall we begin?    The name of this delightful confection is “Bacon-Apple Gallette” – don’t you just LOVE that name?   Sounds oh so French, OUI?????

Ooohhh La La!!!

This is SOOO good!

Now I know not EVERYONE has a food processor.  Of course here in the Baconian Castle we have all kinds of equipment right Royal Chef????

YES YOUR ROYAL HIGHNESS, WE ARE FULLY EQUIPPED!

So if you don’t have a food processor you can STILL make the crust ………an alternative would be to buy the already prepared pie crust dough – the boxes usually contain TWO pie crusts……….you can make this recipe using those and just divide your filling into TWO gallettes.    Making the crust yourself is STILL the best and tastiest BUT there are alternatives!!

Now that I’ve prepared this delicious dessert for my bacon-addicted Baconians, I shall retire to my Kingly Quarters, change into my royal garb and conduct business here in the Castle for the rest of my day………………but first……………………..!!

May your day be bacon-filled!

A Royal Thanks to all Veterans….

without your sacrifices,

we would not be who and what we are today.

Land of the FREE and Home of the BRAVE………….

    • It’s good with that crust – sprinkle a little sugar on the bottom of the pre-made crusts for the extra sweetness that the homemade crust would have…….Talk about good – YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

  1. Happy Bacon Day!! That recipe looks so good. I have all the ingredients- except bacon 😦 The cartoon with the 2 dogs is funny. Thank you to your Grandpa in Heaven for his service to our country. XO

    • It is a fabulous recipe………..you actually don’t NEED the bacon because it’s great as an apple dessert – in fact, you could add any other fruit you have (including some of your strawberry preserves!) and it would be delish too!!!!

  2. The crust would be purrfect with quiche…a bacon and cheese quiche. I marvelous, have put it on my list for mommy to make. Mommy is going downtown for the Remembrance Day services. Then off to a giant craft show. 2 of her art friends from Calgary and Toronto are participating. She has not seen them since she used to do art shows! She says it will be a wonderful day. I am telling her to fill the bird feeder before she goes!

    • Oh indeed – you should have a LONG DAY OF bird TV if she fills the feeder first!!! Good thinking Marv. I hope your Mommy has fun with her friends at the craft show AND enjoys the Remembrance Day service too. You have a nice quiet day of snoozing dear boy – stay warm!

p.s. that crust is probably perfect for quiche and many other things – tarts, pot pies, etc.

  3. That recipe sounds delicious. I am lazy and usually buy pre made pastry, but that sounds so good that I would get the processor out for it.

    • I did it both ways and honestly the “homemade” pastry is 100% better than the pre-made……….but it’s just a good recipe PERIOD! I also think it would be good with other fruit in it as well but apples and bacon taste so yummy together!

  4. You won’t believe what happened this week – my human and her boyfriend went out to lunch somewhere, and my human had an omelet… with turkey bacon! And didn’t bring me home any. Granted, turkey bacon isn’t REAL bacon, but I hear it was still really good.

    • I’ve been told that turkey bacon is quite tasty – like turkey burgers are so much like “meat” burgers…..I too can’t believe neither your human NOR her boyfriend thought about “bringing home the bacon” to you though Summer – I hope you gave them the major STINK EYE – I’m sure you smelled that fabulous bacon smell on them so you knew they’d taken bites of “the forbidden fruit” !!

  5. Apples and bacon – two of our favorites – that gallette sounds wonderful!!! We don’t have a food processor here unless we can count Mom as that term:) We have a new instant pot on the way next week so we shall see what she can create with that gizmo.
