SHOPPING and Filling-In!

Standard

Another Two For One Day!

We have “Shopping Around the World” with Bacon of PIGLOVE today and we also have “Friendly Fill-In Friday” with McGuffys’ Reader and 15andMeowing.    Which one should we do first?   I say:

Let’s fill in our sentences then we’ll go shopping…….this is a fun hop co-hosted by the above two blogger buddies and boy is it FUN.   They give us sentences, and we fill in the blanks and because it’s a HOP we get to HOP around and find out stuff about all our friends because of how they filled in the blanks!     If you click the badge above, you will be transported to McGuffy’s where you can join in the fun with the LINKY tool !

I’m letting Mom answer again this week – I’ve been very generous I think letting her STAR on Fridays but in actuality, most of the time the sentences are more “human friendly” than Teddy friendly.   So let’s see what Mom has to say shall we?   Her filled in stuff is in BLUE.

1. I am far too old to wear the tight jeans that I love to wear but I say “SO WHAT”!

  1. To save money, I don’t often buy things for the house – I keep towels for instance until you can almost SEE through them (slight exaggeration!) but I kind of figure as long as things WORK, I won’t replace them.   I certainly haven’t ALWAYS been like that though – trust me!
  2. LIFE matter(s).
  3.  The leaves coming down makes me think I don’t have much longer to wait for fires in the fireplace.

OK Mom – good job.    Our thanks go to Annie of McGuffy’s and Ellen of 15andMeowing for this fun weekly Hop.

NOW for our next half of the blog today!

Shopping Around The World

This one is super fun too because it’s ALWAYS interesting to get more recipes but it’s even MORE interesting to see what people pay for the stuff they use to MAKE their chosen food item.   That FOOD ITEM this month is DESSERTS!

This probably sounds crazy but my Mom and Dad almost ALWAYS eat dessert when they go out to dinner but they hardly EVER have dessert at home.   Notice I said “hardly ever” because Mom DOES make dessert from time to time.   Here’s an EASY one and because my Mom is a NUT for coconut (hahaha) she loves these!

CHOCOLATE AND ALMOND MACAROONS

INGREDIENTS AND PRICES:

3/4 cup condensed milk ($1.99 for 14 oz. container)

1  14-oz package sweet flaked coconut (two packages of 7 oz. – each package $1.84)

1/4 to 1/2 Teaspoon almond extract ($4.99 for two oz.)

1/8 Teaspoon salt (we had some)

24 whole unblanched almonds ($8.99 for 16 oz. package)

1/2 cup dark chocolate morsels ($3.49 for 10 oz. package)

DIRECTIONS:

Stir first four ingredients together…………..and drop dough by tablespoons on to parchment paper lined baking sheet (if you grease the spoon a little it will drop out easier!).   Push an almond into the top of each macaroon.   Bake in 350 degree oven for 15-17 minutes until golden brown.   Remove and let cool.

Microwave 1/2 cup chocolate morsels on high for a minute and 15 seconds………..stir well……..when cooled off, dump in a freezer bag and cut a hole in one corner so you can drizzle chocolate on the macaroons!

EASY PEASY and do I have to tell you how delish these are?   Well, I wouldn’t know myself of course but my Mom absolutely ADORES them.

If you have a DESSERT recipe to share today – make sure and link it up to Bacon’s blog at PIGLOVE so he can drool over your recipes but also so his Mom can collect all the recipes and make new snacks for Bacon’s Dad!

THERE YOU HAVE IT!    Friendly Fill-Ins and Shopping Around The World

See you tomorrow at the BACON HARVEST on my blog.   Sheeeeeeeeeee-haaaaw we’re gonna have a good time!

WATCH OUT – COMIN’ THROUGH!!!

Hugs, Teddy (and Angel Sammy too!)

  2. Thank you for participating, great answers. I think you should wear jeans whenever you want. I love your answer to #3. And a fire in the fireplace sounds so nice, I wish we had one. This recipe looks good, we have some almonds in the house so I might try it. Have a nice weekend! XO

    • The great thing about those cookies (so says Mom) is that they are beyond easy to make. My Mom isn’t BIG on baking either but the easy stuff is – well – EASY! HAHAHA You’re right about wearing WHATEVER – Mom is retired so the only person she needs to please with what she wears is HER!

      Happy Weekend!

  4. I wish my wife thought like you. She always wants to replace something that is perfectly fine, like our sofa that Puck poops on. Hey, it is covered all the time so it never gets used and is practically brand new.

    • YES! When they get a little bit TOO worn, my husband uses them around his garage for clean-ups, car shining, etc. We wring every ounce of LIFE out of them before they see the inside of the trash can!

  5. Your Friendly Fill-ins, the first three, I could have written! Number four, I wish I could have written, but we don’t have a fireplace! 😿😢

    • Hi there!! Thanks for coming by…….when we built this house one of our favorite things about the design was the large fireplace. We’ve used it a LOT in the 21 years we’ve lived here. Even though as we’ve aged it gets tough going out in the snow to gather wood (!), it’s worth it for that crackling wood sound and the aroma and the warmth. Glad you liked my filling in this week!

    • Mom says there are some places you can order your jeans hemmed to whatever length you like…..either LLBean or Land’s End maybe?? Anyway, long legs are a problem but those are hard to replace (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

  7. Wow, to have a wood fire in a fireplace would be great. Some people around here would crank the a/c up to max just so they can have a fire. It very rarely gets cold around here, at least not for long. This year our winter lasted 3 days, The next month it was back up to 100+. Got to love Gulf Coast Texas.

    • We actually love having four seasons here in Virginia……and winter isn’t too rough like it is further north. I suspect if we were not retired and having to DRIVE in the snow we’d not be as happy with it but we can just watch it and enjoy the beauty of it. Fall is amazing with all the colors in the trees and Spring is also amazing with the new growth and budding plants. I’m sure it’s also nice NOT to worry about weather (except for hurricanes, etc.!) and Texas is a beautiful state indeed. “HAPPY” is wherever we find it right? I think, by the way, tonight we will have our fist fire in fireplace of the season. Fall has finally fallen her.

  8. Have to try the macaroons… CH and I could make them together. Been hungry for a coconut cream pie, too. We have talked jeans before and I remember thinking back in high school that there would come a time I wouldn’t be able to wear jeans because I would get too old for them. I live in jeans and I love them but I have to say I haven’t been comfortable in them for awhile and have been making a slow switch to Athleta brand pants… I love their Ponte Skinny pant and Wander Utility pant. I never thought I would find my jeans uncomfortable. Still love Levi’s 505s. I am the same way with our towels… with you on #2! We have already had a couple of fires under the Oaks in the chimenea… 🙂 Chilly here this morning… 54!

    • Do try those macaroons – they really are just that easy to make and OH MAN are they good. I have to be careful not to make them too often though. I absolutely love wearing jeans and probably will wear them forever but I’ve been thinking that the “skinny” jeans just aren’t right for me any more. My body has changed significantly the last five years or so. Funny how even if you weight the same, things seem to move around and change the way things fit. Anyway, I just checked out Athleta online and love THEIR jeans and pants. Wasn’t familiar with that namebrand but I like their stuff. I need to get some new jeans for our trip to Maine so might order some OR even go back to Duluth Trading Post and try theirs on – they were NICE but David was “antsy” to leave when we were there yesterday.

  9. Snorts!! Mom has those same jeans and towels. She says she likes them so what? Sweet Martha Stewart doesn’t live here and it doesn’t matter – snorts with piggy laughter. And the macaroons OMP – mom’s pants just split looking at those pictures. She loves macaroons. Thanks cousin for hosting SATW for the past couple of months. Love you! XOXO – Bacon

    • Bacon! It was our pleasure to help you and your Mom out with SATW. My Mom made those macaroons AGAIN yesterday. She says they are so easy to make it’s almost WRONG not to make them often. What a snack. They aren’t gonna last long around here for sure!
