Thankful and Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Standard

Double Post Thursday is Here!

FIRST we are THANKFUL with Brian………

I am thankful this week because Mom and Dad took me to the Vet on Tuesday to get me checked out!   Why on earth would I be THANKFUL for having to go to the stabby place?   Well, because it was only my third time in the car EVER – once coming home from the shelter when I was adopted, once for an initial vet check, and this past Tuesday for a BIG checkup.   Why did I need a BIG checkup?   Mom thought it was a big problem that I won’t eat wet food – I’m OK with dry but my favorite “dry” is TREATS!   Not a good thing – treats should be treats and not a main meal.   She also wasn’t sure if it was good that the only water I drink is out of the faucet.   That’s right – I go to the nearest bathroom and squeak (I don’t meow – I squeak) for someone to put me on the counter and turn on the water so I can get a BIG FAT drink.   Mom wants to get me a fountain – Dad says it’s gonna be just recycled water and I won’t use the fountain……..DUH…………. She also thought that MAYBE I was getting a little – well – how do I say this diplomatically – well CHUBBY is the word!     When I went to the vet initially after I was adopted, I was 11 months old and weighed 8 lbs.   Now I’m 15 months old and I weigh (gulp) 14 lbs!     Probably the treats I love says my doc.   So,  now I’m eating Fancy Feast regular REAL non-treat dry food which I find “ACCEPTABLE” !    So what about ALL OF THAT makes me thankful?     Because I’m thankful I have a Mom and Dad who love me so much they want me to get GOOD habits and to be HEALTHY always – that’s why!

Wanna tell the world why you’re thankful or read what everyone ELSE is thankful for?   Then click the badge above for Brian’s blog, go there and enter your blog address with the LINKY TOOL and join in the BLOG HOP he hosts every Thursday!

Now I’ll turn it over to Angel Sammy for HIS Poetry Challenge Post!

Hello friends from the Rainbow Bridge!    Today we are working on the letter “C” in our third go-round on the alphabet……………remember, the poems have to be about something starting with the letter “C” – OR you can use one of my prompt words that I provided LAST Thursday on the Poetic Thursday post!     Those words were:

(1)  CAR  (2) CAMERA  (3) COOKIE  (4) CARPET

What did I write and transmit to my baby brother for today’s post????   Stay tuned.

My poem is using the prompt last week with the word “CAR” !

“C”

“Car”

By Angel Sammy Kimmell, 6/29/17

It was 17 years ago

When from the shelter I would go

Home with two people I would learn to love

People who were sent by angels above

I was such a lucky guy with a lucky star

UNTIL I GOT IN THAT AWFUL CAR!

For 16 years I’d have to travel

My patience and happiness would always unravel

I hated to be in that terrible thing

Because I knew what the trip would bring!

The vet was always my destination

THAT’s what would cause my consternation!

When I GOT there I was perfectly fine

It was the trip in the CAR that blew my mind!

I miss my parents more than I can say

But I don’t miss that CAR in any way!

So that’s it from the Rainbow Bridge this week……………hope you wrote a poem for the challenge – and if you did, you can post it in our comments HERE, or post your blog URL in my comments so we can come visit you and read your poetry!    Remember, it doesn’t matter if your poem rhymes – what’s important is that you give it a try…………everyone can write a poem………..honest!

With Love, Angel Sammy

♥♥

Thanks big brother…………………I am happy you have good wi-fi at the Rainbow Bridge so you can get your poem to me every week!    I hope we have lots of friends who decide to write a poem for “C” this week.   Now I’ll let everyone know what you chose for prompts for NEXT week’s letter “D” poem!    Remember everyone you can write a poem about ANYTHING starting with “D” or use one of Angel Sammy’s prompts:

(1) Danger  (2) Dandelion  (3) Dark  (4) Dinner

Great words Sammy!  Can’t wait to see what poems are written next week !

Til next Thursday!

Love and Hugs, Angel Sam and Teddy too

    • Good question about rhyming with dandelion but the poem just has to be ABOUT dandelions not rhyme with it – HOWEVER, I thought of a few……how about: baby cryin’, drinking wi-on (haha), feelin; fi-on (haha again) – see? Those all kinda rhyme with dandy-lion right?????? Kinda?????? NEVER MIND! Yes I am not sure I’m going to be a car guy – Mom says maybe if we take a trip somewhere that doesn’t lead to the vet maybe I won’t consider the car a BAD THING that leads to shots and pokes in the tummy (or other places).

We hope that you might ‘shrink’ a wee bit over time.

  3. I don’t like the car much either! I don’t hate it as much as some cats do, and I love the places it takes me… but I will say, when it comes to car travel, I’m more about the destination and not so much the journey. Plane travel… that’s different. I like that!

    • Oh I bet it would be wonderful to be in an airplane going exciting places! Cars – too many things whizzing by too quickly for me. I was pretty brave day before yesterday but I have to admit I prefurrrrr home sweet home!

  4. Dearest Teddy…oh good buddy I hear you on the stabby place but most of all the faucet drinking.
I have used a water fountain my entire life until about 3 months ago when I fell in love w the bathroom faucet….I shunned my fountain. Mom was worried about my water drinking while they were away so she bought 2 different style bowls for me to get used to using. Luckily I loved both of them so water last week was good. Now fast forward to their return….it seems I have forgotten about the bathroom faucet. Soooooo send your peeps on a trip for a week and I predict you will forget the faucet. Or maybe you can train the kennel ladies to turn on a faucet for you. We cats present such fun challenges.
Keep up the good work Teddy you make me and I am sure Angel Smmy proud.
Angel Sammy I loved your poem…about cars what a precious story.

We have a poem today too

    • Maybe if Mom got JUST THE RIGHT water bowl for me I’d drink from it…..or not….purrrhaps the water faucet is a passing fancy? We do tend to change our mind about stuff – that’s part of being a cat right? We loved your poem today with ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Angel Sammy’s prompt words in one poem! BRAVO FOR YOU!!!!!

  5. Oh, Teddy, you sound like little lady Eddy around here. She wants dry kibble and dry kibble only. It also sounds like you have something in common with our housemate Toby, who can only squeak and never meows. I bet your squeaks are quite adorable, though, Teddy!

And what a fantastic poem about that car, Angel Sammy. Around here, pup Astrid loves the car. As for the kitties, Thimble tolerates it but does not really enjoy it, Evan likes to evacuate his bladder and bowels on car rides, and Eddy absolutely and totally despises car rides. Purrs!

    • It’s kibble for me too so Eddy and I have something in common! Angel Sammy really HATED being in the car – thankfully our vet is only about 10 minutes from our house so it wasn’t a long ride but he just HATED being in the car. He’d stick his head into Mom’s armpit so he couldn’t hear or see anything on the trip!!!! From what I can tell and what I hear, cats either LOVE the car or HATE the car – there’s no middle ground!

  6. Z Cat would eat nothing but dry food… nothing else… maybe a lick of gravy off a half can of wet once and a great while even though I tried a can of wet food every day. Z did not drink out of faucets or any kind of dish or water bowl. She had a fountain and would play in it and occasionally take a few sips. She would ONLY drink out of CH’s coffee cup with the fishing motif on it. CH gave up his fishing cup/mug and the mug was set on a kitchen chair and that is where she drank her water. She also hated car rides, so much that I had a vet come to the house for annual visits and shots. So, Angel Sammy I hear you on the car rides. A very good poem!

    • OH MY!!!! Mom is afraid if I had a fountain I’d turn it into a PLAY AREA because I’m very curious about water. Dad is afraid it will be noisy……I wonder if I might enjoy drinking out of a CUP like humans do?!! I love that Z Cat did that….it’s sweet…..!!!

  7. I was going to suggest a water fountain to your Mom.They have filters so the water will be like new every time 🙂 Excellent poem Angel Sammy and I think almost all cats feel the same about cars. XO

    • Mom thinks a fountain might help but it would have to be totally quiet…….and I wouldn’t be allowed to PLAY in it (!!!!!)…….so the water faucet might be my “drink bar of choice” !!!!

Sammy, you rock, little buddy. I think many can relate to hating cars. Maggie tends to yell when she has to travel, even to the vet! HUGS!

  9. Teddy,
That is too funny. I thought you were writing about me at first. Mommy wants me to eat less dry food and more wet food. Sometimes I eat wet food. And she does get me the best grain free food. I likes the faucet too and stand by the bathroom door squeaking. Mommy often calls me “Squeaker”. I don’t think that’s nice, do you?

    • Hi Raja and Zoe – I think squeaking is a lot more “effective” than meowing because our Moms think squeaking is “cute” so they pay more attention to us….tee hee…..I think wet food is better for us but I just prefurrrrr dry stuff. What is your favorite dry?????

  10. Teddy, our Mom is always scolding our Dad for giving us too many treats, so we do understand. We hope you like your new food and maybe get the occasional treat. As for the car, Misty LOVES to go in the car, and Lightning is a total basket case – he cries and whines the whole time and tries to get in Mom’s lap – that is why he is now tethered in the wayback. Even valium doesn’t calm him down. Needless to say his trips in the car are only the absolutely essential ones.

    Woos – Lightning and Misty

    • Hi Tabby Buddies!! How’s everything in fishville? I love your “C” haiku which just could NOT have been possible to write by anyone but you guys. You do such a GREAT job with PO-ET-REEEEE and in fact, you made me hungry just reading it! I know that I should drink from a bowl but we suspect whoever had me before Mom and Dad trained me to ask for water from the faucet for whatever reason. We’ll see if we can change that – everyone says to get a cat fountain but gosh – it would be a bummer to buy one of those things and me HATE it right???!!! Sigh…………We got your post twice but we never can have “too much” from you Trout-Towners anyway! We love you!

      • Not all fountains are ‘spensive Teddy. And dat water bill could add up after a awhile. We have a Catit flower fountain dat costs ’bout $20.00. It’s made of plastic, but has several ways to drink from it so you don’t touch da plastic. Ya’ know, incase awnty Pam is worried ’bout chin acne. But, it would be a great cheaper fountain to try. Big hugs

        • Oh thanks for telling us about your fountain ladies…….Mom will check it out. When I get water from the faucet Mom turns it right off after I drink so at least it’s not all the time. Still, it does add up with water use I’m sure……You’re right about chin acne and plastic but when you’re not resting your face on it like you might with a food bowl I guess the “exposure” is less!

          • Your welcome Teddy. Yeah, me had a purroblem with chin acne, but me hasn’t had any issues with da flower fountain from catit cuz it flows in streams, so me never touches da plastic. Raena likes to lick da petals, but still other than her tongue, she doesn’t touch da plastic. Good luck. We hope it works out fur ya’. We’ve never posted ’bout dat fountain, cuz mommy had to pay fur it herself. But it is a great fountain and easy to clean. Dat seems to matter to da humans. MOL big hugs

  17. That’s a great poem, Angel Sammy. We’re not too fond of the car either. Ernie usually sings at the top of his lungs when he’s in the car.

And Teddy, you should really check out the wet food. It’s really tasty! They don’t call it stinky goodness for nothing.

    • My Mom is amazed that I am not interested in stinky stuff – we have to assume that nobody introduced me to it in my first 11 months of life because I walk away from it like it was poison! HAHA Mom isn’t giving up though – almost every day she tries some other wet stuff out on me. Meanwhile at least the dry I eat is good for me now instead of TREATS!
