Friendly Fill-Ins

It’s Fill-In Sentences Day!

(AND, Saint Patrick’s Day)

Every Friday we pawticipate in a co-hosted blog hop courtesy of 15andmeowing and McGuffy’s Reader.   Each host provides all of us with TWO sentences with blanks and WE get to fill them in.  It’s tons of fun learning stuff about each other and if you’d like to pawticipate, just click the badge below and go to McGuffy’s Reader – use the LINKY tool to enter your blog address and post your blog with your OWN words in the sentence blanks!!!   Coolio right?   Right!

Here are this week’s sentences and who in my household did the filling in this week??????  Why it was Mom of course – Teddy and I don’t have a refrigerator of our own (#2) and we know ZIP about our heritage so we’ll turn this week’s filling in over to Mom!   (fill ins are RED)

1. The oldest item in my home is a quilt which was given to my Mom and Dad as a wedding gift in 1946.

2. The oldest item in my refrigerator is a bottle of chardonnay that has been in there 3 weeks (it might end its’ stay there tonight!).

3. My family heritage is Irish and English.

4. My favourite family tradition is having sausage gravy and biscuits on Christmas morning (a tradition my Dad started when I was a little girl and when he passed away my sister-in-law and I continued the tradition!.

VOILA!    Done for another week.   Thank you ladies for hosting this fun hop though……..we look forward to it every week!

Here are some current photos of my baby brother Teddy………I say baby but he’s one year old now so purrrhaps I should just say “my younger brother” now?

Nap time with his new catnip heart he won from Cat Scouts!

Sound asleep in his new tent cube……the boy likes to stretch out – what can I say?

He’s actually AWAKE! Imagine that!

Now indulge me for a minute while we tell you about one of the most wonderful craft shops on Etsy for pet peeps!    It’s Mollie and Alfie’s shop and their Mom Miss Stella makes EVERYTHING in the shop with love.   Can’t get better than that right?    My Mom has a LOT of things from the shop that Miss Stella has made……………and even though it may take a while to get some of the personalized things like figurines – when you DO get your item(s) you will be SO PLEASED at the quality and the FUN that’s built into each item.   Trust me.

When I went over the Bridge in December two of my Mom’s BESTIES, Miss Sharon of Friends Furever and Miss Stephanie of Goodness Gracie  made SPECIAL arrangements with Miss Stella for her to do figurines/ornaments of ME.   Miss Sharon asked Stella to do a figuring of ME in my Cat Scouts uniform and Miss Stephanie asked for an Angel with wings of me.    These beautiful and thoughtful gifts were from them for my Mom.   Mom was so thrilled to learn of this sweet gesture and even though Miss Stella was up to her eyeballs in Christmas orders and SUPER DUPER busy, she promised to get them done and sent off to Mom.

Yesterday we received the Cat Scouts version which was the one ordered by Miss Sharon………………….IT IS AMAZING……………….Mom got very leaky eyes when she opened the box:

And while we haven’t RECEIVED the other figurine from Miss Steph, this is a photo that Miss Stella sent to us of the finished ANGEL SAMMY figurine that she did for Miss Steph which we bet will be here soon:

Isn’t it ADORABLE???????????   I look just like ME – wings and all!    We wanted you to see these not just because they’re wonderfully made but because we would like you to visit Miss Stella’s shop and see if you can’t find some FUN things that you might like to order……….here are just a FEW of the things she makes:

So take a peek at her ETSY store…………………….bet you’ll find a perfect gift for YOU or for someone else who has a pet they love………..or even “just because” !!!!!   THANK YOU STELLA, MISS SHARON AND MISS STEPHANIE for your kindness…………you made my Mom VERY happy!    Just CLICK the SHOP BADGE below and start shopping!!

  1. Mollies mom has super talented paws… and all items are not only made with that paws, they are made with love too.
Teddy it seems you have the same small tent we have…. hahahaha… but in summer our legs can get some fresh air, that’s good too :o)
Happy St. Patricks Day, maybe the bottle with the chardonnay will join the party today :o)

    • Mom is definitely taking that chardonnay out of the refrig TODAY……….and Teddy is so funny because he’ll just be in the middle of a hall or rug or room and lie on his back like that all stretched out and sleep through all the noise around him. He’s a professional napper!

  2. Those pictures of Teddy are priceless!

When I say biscuit, it means what you would call a cookie. Could you describe the biscuit you have with gravy for me, please?

    Liked by 1 person

    • Oh yes I forgot about that!!! Biscuits do mean cookies don’t they…..our biscuits are made with flour/baking powder/eggs and are fluffy and light and wonderful with fresh butter and jam OR with a big load of sausage gravy on top! My Dad used to make this very Christmas morning when I was growing up. It’s delicious! There is a mix available in a box here in the States called “Bisquick” which is the EASY way to bake biscuits (it also is used for pancakes).

  3. Aw, those are such special little figurines of you, Angel Sammy. I’m sure they touched your Mom’s heart…..
And that “younger” brother of yours….he really has his own way of napping, doesn’t he? Motor Man said that, in that first picture, he really looks STRESSED…!

    • HA! Teddy doesn’t know the meaning of stressed and bless his heart if we have anything to do with it, he never will know! LOL The figurines are incredibly special……I was so touched to receive them.

  4. OH we LOVE seeing Teddy all stretched out on his back “in” his tent! And we love those precious figurines of Angel Sammy. What a loving gift from your dear friends when you were so grieving for Angel Sammy. Sundae’s comment made me meow! That was funny.

    • Teddy loves lying on his back no matter how silly he might look……….he loves this little tent of his and does get TOTALLY inside to sleep but I guess he felt moved to stretch out while mid-sleep!!!

    • Teddy looked SO FUNNY hanging out of his tent but he was sound asleep and that was all that mattered! HAHAHA Yes we all really love Scout Sammy – it’s a most special reminder to us of what a very sweet boy he was and how hard he worked at Cat Scouts to make things fun if he could. Teddy will follow his lead I’m sure and try his hardest as well. Thank you all again for the dear figurine. It’s here in my office and I look at it constantly.

  5. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. That quilt sounds like a very special heirloom. That is sweet that you carried on your Dad’s tradition on Christmas morning. I love these photos of Teddy, he is a cutie. And those 2 gifts from Sharon and Steph are amazing, so thoughtful. I am heading over to the shop now. XO

    • Fill-ins was fun and everybody came up with wonderful answers….! The quilt is falling apart but it’s on the back of a chair in the guest room so it’s “safe”………and it was a very simple quilt in the “fan” pattern and very faded but I still love it and remember it at the foot of my Mom’s bed when I was a little girl. I can promise that you will love anything Stella makes – her shop is in the UK but she ships carefully and I think her prices are SUPER considering postage is in there too……

  8. The photo of Teddy stretched out “in” his cat cube reminded me of the what my Mom said was my favorite sleeping habit as a baby. I would always stick one of my legs out of the bars of the crib… she even had the embarrassing photos to prove it!

    • Some of us just HAVE to stretch out to sleep well – right? Teddy seems to REALLY love that position whereas I usually curled up in “shrimp” position. We all have to find our most comfy way of getting a good snooze going and you obviously needed to have one leg “waving in the breeze” !

We sure did…..not sure if you made it to Scouts but we had a pawty there too…..Yep the quilt truly is ancient and falling apart from all the loving it had through these “almost 70” years. It’s worn and faded (kinda like MOM?! haha) but well-loved. HAPPY CATURDAY!

  14. How sweet of Miss Sharon and Miss Stephanie to send your mama those special gifts. What a touching gesture of friendship and love.

What a wonderful treasure you have in that quilt. Do you know who made it and who gave it to your parents? My granny was a quilter and I have a few of her quilts here with us.

I think your dad’s tradition with the biscuits and gravy sounds yummy. I am glad that you and your sister-in-law have carried it on. 🙂

Teddy is an adorable kitty and looks so soft.

    Have a blessed weekend.

    • The quilt is a bit of a mystery – it was one of my Mother’s relatives who gave it to her as a gift but Mom was always very sketchy with information about her family so I don’t know other than the year it was made. My sister is a quilter too and I have a house full of her beautiful work. I can barely sew on buttons! HAHA

      Happy Sunday!

      • I wonder why your mama was sketchy with family information? I have had some folks like that in my, too. My granny and papa stopped living together as man and wife at some point when my daddy was young. I don’t know if they divorced or not, but they didn’t live together. Many years later when I was a young woman, I asked Granny about her wedding anniversary. She refused to talk about it. She didn’t want to remember that she’d ever been married to him. Papa died when I was 14 and I never thought to ask him. My interest in genealogy started the year that he died, but after the fact. He probably would have told me, if he remembered.
I wish that relatives weren’t so tight with the family stories. It can be very frustrating to try to piece things together when all you have are maybe third party stories and newspaper clippings and legends.

I bet you could do more than sew on a button. 🙂 While I can’t say that the actual quilting part of a quilt is easy, the piecing part is pretty easy, especially if you’re dealing with squares or rectangles. Curved pieces are a whole ‘nother story entirely. 🙂

        Have a blessed Sunday!
        Love,
        Suz

        • I think maybe it was a generational thing……family matters were private in a lot of families especially if there were ANY kind of problems – you just didn’t talk about it……I didn’t pry – maybe if I had, I would have found out SOMETHING but it was clear it would be uncomfortable so I didn’t. Anyway, I know a lot of people are into geneology and it’s wonderful to understand what kind of path our families have taken to get us to TODAY and the here and now. I do embroidery (or used to before my arthritis got bad) and also used to hem the quilts my sister made. So yes I can do more than sew on a button but JUST BARELY!

          Love, Pam

          • You’re probably right about it being a generational thing. My daddy’s family shared some stories over the years, but overall, it was a pretty private group of folks. My mama’s side wasn’t quite so tight-lipped. I know they had their secrets, too, and I’ve learned some of them, but they shared all sorts of stories. I just can’t remember most of them anymore.

Don’t you just hate the fun things our aging bodies take from us? I used to cross-stitch, but can’t see to do it anymore and I also have arthritis. I’m sorry that you have it, too. I really enjoyed cross-stitching. My vision is making photography increasingly difficult, too, but I’m going to fight giving up photography to the very end!

Wouldn’t it be great to wake up one morning and all of our physical challenges have been eradicated? 🙂

            Have a blessed day!

  15. That is so cool you have your parent’s quilt from their wedding day! I bet it’s beautiful! 🙂

Did that bottle of chardonnay end it’s ‘oldest in the fridge’ mode? 😉

Sausage and gravy biscuits on Christmas morning is a great tradition – I love that you and your SIL continue the tradition your dad started. 🙂

LOVE the sleeping pics of Teddy! A couple of our cats will sleep like that, too. And one of them is often in ‘Supercat’ mode, laying flat on the floor with her back legs stretched out straight like she’s flying. I need to take pictures! 🙂
