WHAT A DEAL!

We have two posts to do today – we’re helping Bacon at PigLove out with the Shopping Around The World monthly post he does – by hosting for him so we’ll have THAT post as well as the usual Friendly Fill-Ins post which is co-hosted by McGuffy’s Reader and 15andMeowing!

fillins

First up – Friendly Fill-Ins!   You can click McGuffy’s Reader link above if you’d like to join up – just go there and use the linky tool to include your blog post in the fun OR just visit everyone else’s posts!    This week we let our Mom fill in……….aren’t we nice to SHARE????   Take it away Mom!   Her answers are in RED!

1. I wish Muu Muus (super baggy Hawaiian style dresses!) would come back in style.
2. I always have little packets of Kleenex in my purse ( or wallet for men).
3. I think that I am just a LITTLE freaked out by the fact I’m turning SEVENTY this year!.
4. Rudeness  is a pet peeve of mine.
YAY MOM!    Well done……………if someone asked me what a Muu Muu was I think I’d say it was a pair of cows but that’s just me (har har har).
Now on with the next part of our double blog today which is (drum roll please):

Shopping Around The World!

SHOPPINGAROUNDTHEWORLD

This month’s assignment was to do a main course dish which contained no MEAT, FISH or CHICKEN……………..so I’m gonna tell you about Mom’s fave – slow cooker Mac and Cheese!

macandcheese

Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 ounces) elbow macaroni   (16 oz. box $1.39)
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted (16 oz. $5.49)
  • 4 cups (16 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese, divided  (16 oz. $2.99)
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk (12 oz. $1.49)
  • 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cheddar cheese soup, undiluted (1 can $1.89)
  • 1 cup 2% milk (128 oz. $2.69)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten  (1 doz. $1.15)
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika  (on hand already!)

Directions

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. Place in a 5-qt. slow cooker; add butter. In a large bowl, mix 3 cups cheese, evaporated milk, condensed soup, 2% milk and eggs. Pour over macaroni mixture; stir to combine. Cook, covered, on low 3-1/2 to 4 hours or until a thermometer reads at least 160°.
  2. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Cook, covered, on low 15-20 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Sprinkle with paprika. Yield: 10 servings.

Mom whacks this whole recipe in half sometimes but then again you know what?   This is one DY-NO-MITE leftover dish too………..so making a whole pile of it at once is dandy – you can have it AGAIN a few nights later!!!!  WOO HOO!!!!

There you have it – a double poster today!

Bacon will be hosting his Shopping Blog again next month!

Happy Friday from the “DYNAMIC DUO”

  1. I love your recipe… and I will try it your way asap… I hope we can find cheese soup or is there anything what we can use in case our stores haven’t this soup? I also will stay away from elbow noodles, all things elbow have a little bad karme here LOL. muu muu’s are great… they are the best thing for a hot summer day… you are well dressed but you feel free anyway :o)

    • Oh that’s right – hellbow macaroni is NOT a good thing at your house but it doesn’t matter WHAT kind of noodles you use……as for a cheese soup substitute I read that you can make an easy substitute using this recipe:
      Condensed Cheddar Cheese Soup Substitute

      3 tablespoons butter
      3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
      1 cup milk
      1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
      salt, to taste

Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat; add flour and whisk until smooth and bubbly. Remove from heat; gradually add milk, whisking to keep smooth. Return to heat and bring to a gentle boil, whisking constantly until thickened. Add cheese and stir until melted. Add salt.

      Hugs, Angel Sam

  2. Mmm, Mac n’ Cheese! I made some not long ago. I wasn’t overly impressed with it. I believe I need to use a different cheese. I may try again another time. Your recipe looks simple and good. I may try it sometime. 🙂 Good fill-in responses. Rudeness is another of my pet peeves. Have a good day!

    • Well the right cheese is truly important – Mom made mac-n-cheese once with swiss and it was awful. HAHAHA……she uses sharp cheddar whenever she can but that’s sort of an “acquired” taste! Give it a try again some time……………

  5. Oh goodness, the mom here has been wanting some mac and cheese and wow, that recipe sounds like just the best. She can’t wait. Teddy, you are so darn cute. Tell the Mom, that our Mom is way ahead of her. She is going to be 78 in April. But 70 is a big one. Just enjoy making it this far. Have a good one.

    • Thanks for the reminder for my Mom that getting this far IS an accomplishment – as for you – WOO HOO too! My Mom also says that as long as she’s a “younger sister” she feels young……her sister is going to be 80 next June!

      Love, Angel Sammy

  6. Thank you to your Mom for those great answers. Funny Muu Muu joke- we enjoyed your set of jokes at the TCC yesterday Angel Sammy. If I wore a muu muu, I would look like a moo moo. 🙂 Don’t worry about turning 70, you are young at heart. XO

  7. Good morning, Sammy,
Would you, please, assure your Mom that there’s no reason to freak out at turning 70! I know since I’ll be turning 70, too. In April. I’ll keep her company and – virtually – hold her hands when she crosses that threshold. 😉
Have a wonderful weekend, all of you,
    Pit

  10. My mum loves Mac ‘n’ cheese too. She has never seen cheese soup here but makes her own cheese sauce which is very similar to the recipe you gave Phenny. She uses cornflour rather than all purpose flour though.

  13. I think if you want to wear a muu-muu, you should. I am all about comfort, as I get older. As long as I am neat, clean, and not obscene, I should be okay! You, too! You are as young as you feel, and critters keep you young! HUGS!
