Endangered Species

Good Morning Friends!!    When I heard about my friend Louisdog’s idea to draw attention to all the endangered animals in the world with a special day, I was ON BOARD.    All we had to do was pick an animal that was endangered and write a little bit about them and share it!   Easy Peasy!

When I researched endangered species there were so many animals that I did not KNOW were endangered……but there was one little animal that I was NOT the least bit familiar with whose little face “called” to me……..I just HAD to write about him.   He is the “TARSIER”………..

I put together a short report on this little guy and submitted it to Louis……………….Louisdog is the new Director of the Blogville Arts and Entertainment blog – HERE.    All of us who pawticipated in this salute to Endangered Species are there with our reports so you can take a peek if you like.

This was my submission:

Hi – Angel Sammy here and I want to introduce you to a new friend of mine. Tiny the Tarsier. Tarsiers are an endangered species which makes me sad –they are cute little creatures and since they live in the rain forest they are in danger of losing their habitat.

Tarsiers are the only entirely carnivorous primates, preying on insects, lizards, and snakes. Clinging upright to trees, they press the tail against the trunk for support. Their grip is also aided by the tips of their digits, which are expanded into disklike adhesive pads. Tarsiers move through the forest by launching themselves from trunk to trunk propelled by their greatly elongated hind limbs.

Adults live in monogamous pairs and keep in contact vocally during the night, defending territory against other pairs using extremely high-pitched calls. On the island of Celebes (Sulawesi) these calls are duets—different but complementary calls made by the male and female. Single young are born in a fairly well-developed state, furred and with eyes open, after a gestation of perhaps six months.

♥♥

I hope you’ll stop by and read the submissions made by our blogville buddies……….!     Just follow the link above.

  1. Sammy, this guy looks super tiny. Did you find out how big it gets? It looks as if you could put him in your pocket! I think you should suggest this to Denmaster as a possible idea for a merit badge. Caio and mew, Mau

  2. Thanks for the report, Sammy. We had never heard of these guys before either. Very interesting! They remind us of our sugar gliders… they don’t look the same, but the wild sugar gliders of Australia live in the trees too.

  3. this special event has been quite the learning experience for us too. We have learned about so many animals. We had never heard of a tarsier either – he is rather cute, don’t you think? Thank you for telling us about this interesting creature.

    • Oh I agree with you – if we animals could save “our own” we would – we just need HUMANS to do that on our behalf and reminding them that life is fragile is a good way to do that! Isn’t that little Tarsier adorable? I hate to think of him or ANY other animals disappearing forever………..

    • Louis it was a pleasure pawticipating in your special blog for endangered species – sorry my submission caused some problems with the photo downloading and size of typeface I used (!) but it was wonderful to see SO MANY participate and draw attention to so many endangered animals. I hope we can save as many of these beautiful animals as possible…….to do that, people must CARE.

  5. They remind me of my fox stuffy with the huge, bulging, sparkly eyes. I’m sure they look perfectly adorable in the rain forest, and I wish them all health, happiness and longevity…. but I’m not sure I’d want one as a pet!
