Time for Poetry (and to be thankful too!)

Yes it’s my Poetry Day but it’s also my friend Brian’s Thankful Thursday so we’re hooked up with them too for that blog hop.

Today we celebrate the letter “D”!

“D” is for Dad

One day 17 years ago

A very long time ago, you know!

My Mom and Dad decided to look for another cat

They knew the Shelter was “where it’s at” !!

Into the “kitty room” they went

Mom says she thinks they were “heaven sent”……

Only one little kitty was there – ME!

In a tiny cage but happy as could be.

The lady took me out of the cage which was way up high….

First thing I saw up close was my Dad’s blue eyes!

He was so BIG and I was so SMALL….

I wondered if one day I would get that tall!

She handed me to Dad and he held me nice and firm

I felt so secure, I didn’t even squirm!

I nuzzled his neck and gave him a lick….

He smiled real big – I had succeeded with my “trick” !

He handed me to Mom and I snuggled with her too

But I already KNEW, I didn’t need a clue…..

I had my new home – all because of my Dad

I was the first little kitten he’d ever had……

We were best buddies my whole life, even at the END.

He was more than my Dad……he was my best friend.

Yep – Dad and I were buddies and even though I was way “closer” to my Mom, Dad and I had an understanding…………you know – it was a “guy thing”…………!     So that’s my poem for the day and you know next week we’ll be doing “E” so I’m already giving THAT some thought……………elephant?  Encyclopedia?  Electricity?   The possibilities are endless (say – ENDLESS is an “E” word!).

  4. Oh, Angel Sammy, that is one of the sweetest poems we’ve ever read. (Motor Mommy says your dad does have pretty eyes….!) We didn’t remember that your dad was the first to hold you! I’m sure it was meant to be for you to adopt your pawrents.

    • My Mom says she thinks the worker in the shelter kind of “knew” that Dad was the one hesitating about adopting and she was very smart to hand the tiny little kitty to HIM first…..it worked! Tee Hee

  5. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Angel Sammy what a precious precious poem for your Dad! AND OMCs you were his first kitty. You made us smile today and have a deeper understanding of your love for your family.

    • I loved your “D” poem today Madi! Thanks for always pawticipating in poetry day…….I’m so happy some of my friends play along with me every week. Yes I kind of knew at the shelter that if I won over THE BIG GUY I’d get my forever home and it worked!

  6. Awww,,, the sweetest poem! Men who love kitties are special. How lucky you three were to have found each other, Angel Sammy! CH and Z Cat had a special bond… Z helped CH do all the outside work on the Tiny Ten, supervised by me of course. She wasn’t allowed to operate any powered machinery… 😀 And her outside time was totally supervised!

  22. Oh Sammy, dat was a great poem and even made mommy cry. She ‘members da look each kitty has given her thru da years. Da one dat said, be mes mommy. We’re glad your pawrents came to find you. You had one purrfect life. Big hugs to all.

  27. That is such a lovely poem, Sammy. I am a mum’s boy, but there is one thing I do with my dad every morning that I never do with my mum. He leans over me when he gets out of bed and I am still on it. I look up and stretch my head up and backwards and we touch noses. That is our special morning nose kiss.

    • Flynn that is a VERY SPECIAL good morning tradition you and your Dad have. I was a Mama’s boy too but Dad and I had some “just us” things as well. Dads are special…….
