Happy New Year!

Welcome to my little celebration of a new year, and an old cat…..well, I WOULD have been old if I had lived until today because today would have been my 17th birthday.    I’m going to celebrate it anyway even though I’m at the Rainbow Bridge, and I invite you to partake of a bit of New Year’s Day breakfast with me as we break in the new year.

Now, won’t you head on over to the buffet line, help yourself to whatever your heart desires, then have a seat and enjoy your first meal of the new year?    I’m serving a couple of old Southern traditional New Year’s Day items that my Mom INSISTED we have – black-eyed peas and cornbread!   They are supposed to bring you GOOD LUCK so even if you’re not crazy about black-eyed peas (I love them with lotsa butter!), take a few – we need all the luck we can get in the new year I think, don’t you?

If there’s something you’d like that’s not on the buffet – just ask and I’ll see that you get it……………….!

P.S.   Our sweet friend Nellie From Nellie On The Edge spent some time at the vet and was oh so very sick……she’s home and resting now but needs POTP and prayers.  Since she couldn’t go out and party for New Years (she is the ultimate party girl you know!) I decided to whisk her away to the Cat Scouts New Year’s Eve party for JUST ONE DANCE….didn’t want to tire her out but wanted to give her a brief night on the town.   Here we are!   Please stop by her blog and give her your HUGS.   She could use them for sure………….

  7. There’s nothing at this party buffet that I don’t love – except maybe the black eyed peas.   8. Happy birthday at the Bridge dear Sammy. I don’t think black eyed peas sound the tastiest of foods, but if they bring good luck I will eat some. My mum got salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast with slices of french baguette. I had some salmon too but made sure I saved room for your amazing birthday buffet. Your card from your mum and dad is beautiful.
    To make things even better, the first selfie hop of 2017 and we are bookends again!

    • Oh Flynn your New Year’s Day breakfast sounds delicious but I’m glad that you are going to have a bit of food from my birthday buffet too! The black-eyed peas and cornbread is a very old Southern tradition that my Mom grew up with. My Mom’s Mom was from Kentucky and so every New Year’s Day when my Mom was growing up, there was a bowl of black-eyed peas and some homemade cornbread among the breakfast delights on New Years Day. I quite like the peas because there’s a TON of butter on them and – well – I admit to being as much of a BUTTER fan as I am a BACON fan! I’m so happy we made it to bookends – when we added me this morning you were last in line and we hoped if we HURRIED we’d make it! AND WE DID! Happy New Year dear ginger friend……………stay healthy………and happy.

  16. Happy Big 17 Sammy. It is so fun to keep up with you and Easy and everybody. thank you for the breakfast buffet. I brought my BIG friend Mack. I noticed that he and Clowie both had a whole roast and they were off in the corner munching and chatting. thank you for your generosity and all you do for all of us. Happy New Year to your folks and we are praying for the right kitties to be their friends. (And don’t tell them, but we are also praying that one of the new kitties will have one of your bad habits to drive them crazy!!!) 🙂

    • No I told Nellie that she needs to be HERE………..in fact, on her blog she mentioned that during the time she was “out” at the vet, she “visited” all of us at the Bridge and WE told her “NOT TIME YET NELLIE!!!!” and she came back. Now we just hope she will feel better soon.

  25. Happy Birthday, precious angel! We all wish you could be here to celebrate your birthday, but are happy that you are with our special angel. Mom hadn’t cried in a few days, but now she is boo-hooing again! We were so happy that you could take Nellie for a spin on the dance floor last night. Our hearts hurt that she is now ill. We are sending her oodles of purrs, prayers and POTP. Now, where to start with this gorgeous buffet? Would it be okay if we just spend the day and work our way through all the goodies?     • Oh I’m sorry I made your Mom boo-hoo but my Mom did a bit of that herself while writing my blog post for today! I just had to bring Nellie to Scouts last night as she was so ill it was hard to say what was going to happen so it was important to have a dance with our Queen! Please help yourself to the buffet and I stashed some very comfy beds UNDER the long buffet table hidden by the tablecloth for those who decide to spend the day nibbling on food and napping so help yourselves!     • Hi Gracie…..I guess it was overall a happy day of celebrating and even my Mom and Dad enjoyed it despite being sad about my not being HERE. We do party at the Bridge but my FAVORITE party was here with all my “earthly” friends.     • Hi Gang! Thanks for coming by for the birthday/new years day feast! The blackeyed peas thing is a Southern tradition and I think most of those other things like cabbage, sauerkraut and pork are all “traditions” that came to this country with our humans’ ancestors so they are also VERY COOL. My Mom is not a big sauerkraut fan either BUT she sprinkles a tiny bit of sugar on it and is able to eat it then! HAHAHA

  55. Sorry we didn’t make it by yesterday Sammy. The Mom was busy cooking black-eyed peas and cornbread! (does everybody eat that on New Years?) and cabbage and rice and ham. Then Miss Olivia came over to terrorize us and eat all the food Mommy cooked. You had quite a spread judging by all the leftovers. And every bit of it is delicious. Thanks for being our friend
