It’s time to Fill In some sentences!
Friendly Fill-ins are co-hosted by McGuffy’s Reader and 15and Meowing and are a WHOLE lot of fun – if you wanna join in, just click on one of their links and using the linky widget add your blog with your own fill-ins………it sure is fun finding stuff out about each other!
Mom and I are BOTH filling in this week – my responses are in GREEN and Mom’s are in BROWN….
1. I deserve a treat today for letting Mom sleep most of the night.
2. My favorite magazine is one that is comfortable to lie on for a snooze.
3. Recently, I threw up – in fact it was this morning which is VERY recent!.
1.Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day!
2. My favorite magazine is Country Living.
3. Recently, I turned 69 .
Short Ribs In Beer Over Rice (or Noodles)
One package short ribs (enough for however many people you’re feeding!) Price: Angus Beef Short Ribs Bone-In $7.99 lb.
One onion sliced Price: Yellow Onion $.16
One can stewed tomatoes (drained) Price: 14.5 oz. can $.79
One beer (any kind will do!!) Price: $1.33 (for one bottled Bud Light!)
Enough rice for however many people you’re feeding (noodles work too!) Price: Uncle Ben’s White Instant Rice, 32 oz. $4.59
Throw everything into the crockpot together (except for rice or noodles)……………and turn on low – let it cook until dinner time or until ribs are tender and falling off the bone. Make enough rice for everyone to have some in a bowl to put their ribs with some of the “juice/gravy” on it. YES you can eat with a fork or a spoon depending on whether you want to have any of the juice on top – my Dad likes that because he eats nice buttery rolls with his short ribs and that juice is “MMMMMMM-GOOOOOOD!” he says.
YES it’s housecleaning day – and the usual crowd was here to help my Old Mom and Dad and Old Me out to get this place ship-shape for another week. We don’t make much mess at our age (well, maybe I do because I shed and need help with my litterbox and occasionally throw up)…….thank heavens my Mom and Dad don’t do those things either. They can’t shed – neither of them has much hair…….they don’t use a litterbox (thankfully so I have it ALL to myself) and they never throw up (YAY!).
The cleaners were in and out in a flash!
BAM! Done!
Now I can sleep…………without anyone bothering me………..saving up my energy to eat bacon tomorrow……………………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
What a busy day – all that cleaning, filling in and delicious ribs to boot! Love all round 😀

my dad is over the moon… you created the pawfect octoberfest meal… and you haven’t to wait till the waiters bring a beer after 87 hours, you still have it in your food… brilliant idea… maybe you should sell the idea to the munich beer tent owners, they only had happy guests that way :o)
LikeLike
My Dad REALLY likes this stuff if Mom uses a dark German beer…….I bet the Munch beer tent guys know all about these kind of quickie meals using brewskis for the braising liquid! I think the Oktoberfest folks are happy no matter WHAT they eat as there’s plenty of great beer flowing 24/7!!

Great fill-ins, as usual. Double fill-ins are fun. I so agree with you, S. Magazines are for napping. Even when Mom says the word, “YOU’RE WRINKLING IT!!!” And calls me the name of Weirdo.

That was very thoughtful of you to let your mum have a good night’s sleep, Sammy. My mum told me to take note! I hope you are feeling better now after throwing up. I went through that last week doing it once every day, but I have got over it now.
Those short ribs sound delicious. My mum wonders if she could use Guinness, or if it would be too heavy.
LikeLike
Mom hasn’t tried Guinness (which is her favorite beer!) but it might not be too heavy since you have other liquid in there from the tomato and onion……….give it a whirl and let my Mom know if it works!

Thank you both for participating in the fill-ins, I enjoyed both sets of answers. I am sorry you had an upset tummy Sammy. That was sweet of you to let your Mom sleep. And Pam, I enjoy Country Living too, that is a great magazine. I am the same with with #4. 🙂
I am going to send this recipe to my niece, they get beer from a local microbrewery which keeps growing because everyone loves it so much. I am sure this recipe would be perfect for that.
I wish I had a cleaning crew like yours 🙂 XO

Oh I bet the beer from the local microbrewery would be delicious as the “beer additive” in the recipe……I am afraid while I was nice to Mom Thursday night and let her sleep, last night I was back to my usual hourly wakeup yowls. Oh well…..

That recipe sounds absolutely scrumptious, and Mom’s going to ask Dad to get short ribs the next time he shops. Mom Pam’s answer to #4 is our Mom’s downfall as well. Sammy, we are so delighted that you let your mom sleep most of the night. Definitely a treat or two is in order. As you saw, we agree with your answer to #2, Sammy. With the rain we are having today and constant thunder, we hope Mom Pam’s pockets are full of stars to light up her day. Sending lots of love to our dear friends. The recipe is one that if you try once – you will add it to your “FAVORITES”…..I promise. Mom changes it up sometimes – doesn’t put the tomatoes in, crushes some garlic cloves and puts them in – you can jazz it up any old way but it’s still good – Dad thinks it’s the beer, Mom thinks it’s that short ribs are just tasty!
I did let Mom get some decent sleep Thursday night BUTTTTT last night (Friday) I was back to my hourly wake up calls………….Dad says I’m bored with all this rain – he might be right……..

Our rain stopped this afternoon Dezi but it’s STILL overcast and icky out. I think we’re going to have MORE rain………that hurricane will eventually sweep along the Virginia coastline (Hurricane Matthew) but it’s still in Jamaica and who knows whether it will follow the path they think it will…….sigh……….as long as I can sleep through it, I won’t mind!

Great recipe idea. When we were working at a convenience store, we had a horse who drank Milwaukee’s Best (Beast). He drank a case of it every day.

Beer is very much a part of the culture here. However, that guy was a horse. His vet prescribed beer on his feed to get him to eat it. He was getting old and was not eating. Every day his daddy came by the store and bought a case of the beast. See our video about reforming a drunk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW8gVyw1U8g

Sammy, I hope that you got a special treat for letting your mama sleep most of the night. 🙂

Mom isn’t sure what the deal is with snacking but she does have a tough time NOT doing it. I think it’s because she’s at the computer a lot…..easier to have a snack while typing than trying to eat a whole sandwich or something like that!!!! Well, I did let Mom sleep pretty much Thursday night but NOT last night…….I woke her up every hours…..she said she was like a zombie. She looked like a zombie (they’re scary looking right???!!! HAHAHA).

Yes, zombies are pretty scary looking and I feel like I look like one most of the time, too. haha Why didn’t you let your mommy sleep last night?
Maybe your mommy and I will be able to figure out how to win the battle against the snack monster some day. For me, that day won’t be today. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

I keep Mom up most nights with my yowling…….my vet says it’s because I can’t hear so I’m not sure if anyone is home and I get concerned…….my Dad sleeps through everything but Mom can hear me when I call and she will come and pet me, or brush me, or give me a new can of food, or if I go to the basement door she knows that means “come with me to the litterbox please Mom” and she will. She’s a trooper.
